Estate planning

I went to an estate planning workshop a few days ago. Unfortunately the venue had poor acoustics and I had a hard time hearing the presentation.

I knew going in it would basically be a sales presentation, but thought it might be helpful to get some ideas and see if there were any aspects I should consider.

If we already have recent wills, POA, healthcare POA, and living wills, is there anything estate planning can offer that I haven't covered?

I'm retired but my wife still works, for maybe 4 more years. Our retirement accounts are at Fidelity and I manage them (for better or for worse), and I think we're positioned well for retirement.

We live in NC. I heard that wills don't skip probate but that trusts do. Is that something worthwhile that spending money for estate planning would be worthwhile?

What don't I know that I don't know? (The list may be long). 😜

Interesting message on my ecobee display

Temperature felt normal. Saw this about 9pm last night on the upstairs thermostat.

What is this telling me?

Edit: Or more to the point, are there implications I need to consider or is this expected in high ambient temps?

Edit: location is central NC with 100*F temps.

YT video for teens that best illustrates compounding

Is there a good, short YT video that will capture the attention of a teen and give them a solid understanding of the magic of compounding?

Global security setting?

I had to change a global security setting to install a new version of Newpipe, then accidentally deleted the screen for that setting without reverting it. Now I don't recall what that setting is so I can revert it.

Can anyone tell me the name of that setting? (Android 16 on a Pixel 8 pro, stock).

Edit: found it. Advanced protection>Device protection.

Authorized account activities

I know I can see and have some control with authorized accounts on my main account. What all can I legally do with an authorized account?

For instance, I have a busy older son who wants me to create and manage some child accounts under his account. Is that something I could do if I am authorized on his account (iow, I can see his account under mine)? I want to contribute a little to some grandchildren and get them started on their investing journey.

Navien 240A2 descaling

I had one of these installed about a year ago and it's time for some routine maintenance. I watched a couple YT videos and it looks pretty straightforward to do the process. I did see some conflicting info that indicated DIY could violate the mfg warranty, and same if you use white vinegar for the descaling solution. But the Navien site suggests white vinegar so that claim appears bogus. Not sure about the DIY part.

My concern is that my unit doesn't have valves on the service ports. So when I turn off the incoming and outbound water supply, then go to connect drain hoses to the service ports, I'm thinking I'll get doused with all the water still inside the tank when I uncap the service ports to connect the service hoses. Is there another option? Or do I call my installer back out to put proper valves on the service ports?
