Does anyone on here play ESO?

I'm recently back into it - very casually. Realised I still had my guild from a decade ago going about, so figured I'd turn it into an all-island community.

If anyone wants to hop in and just have a casual social group to banter with once in a blue moon, feel free to send me a DM in-game '@'Alefran. Or search 'The Shadowmere' under social guilds. Look for the guild with 1 member, lol.

NI: Changing name via GRONI Birth Certificate name change; how does that work with Irish Passport?

I know they want supporting documents, but the 2 year wait is usually if the name is different from your birth certificate. My new name will match my new birth certificate.

Also, I'm concerned about establishing a link. Should I include my old in the renewal?

Wildest interaction today. A man in the shop insisting a black kid was from Nigeria.

Not a CTA or anything like that. Just genuinely baffled at what I witnessed.

Queued up a the shop. Black family at the till, elder local man behind them. He offers to pay for whatever they buying. Bit weird, but sure. Woman initially refuses because, bit weird. He taps his card anyway.

Her wee one says thank you. The man leans down and says your welcome, then asks where he's from. Before the kid can even answer he says, "From Nigeria, I bet. Aren't you? I know you are."

He insists that point a couple of times in a, presumably, friendly grandad type manner, but the kid just doesn't answer. Mother says thank you again and they scuffle off, understandably.

I don't think this was malicious in any way. But holeey good fuck was the whole thing weird. I was initially going to step in until I realised he was paying for their items and I was just genuinely dumbstruck by the whole situation. Brain could not parse what the eyes and ears were bearing witness to.

Aluvian Darkstar - The Greatest DAO speedrunner of all time.

In Haven lies a series of gravestones.

If you click on the 15th gravestone in the area, the epitaph reads exactly:

>"In memory of Aluvian Darkstar, who fought the darkspawn horde relentlessly for four years."

Before DAO, there was Neverwinter Nights - a game from which many community modders got hired to work on the combat logic of DAO. One non-human got brought over to DAO too: Aluvian Darkstar, a pre-generated Elven Wizard character featured in Neverwinter Nights.

For those who don't know, developers Andrew Gauthier and Dave Schaefer built a bot that speedruns the game overnight to see if the latest code changes break the engine. Inside the DAO Toolset, you can actually read the script for this bot.

If you read the first line, you see:

DoCombat(): object oPlayer = GetObjectByTag("Aluvian");

Aluvian is the name of the test-character the QA department used to run these bots. It is a ghost in the machine; a character who speedran Dragon Age: Origins tens of thousands of times for four years until the game finally shipped.

Some other fun nuggets also emerge when you look closer at the script.

For example, it is effectively confirmed that you can play the entire game by spamming '1':

/*
u/ brief Spam the speaker with a repeated respones of '1'
(i.e. always reply with the first possible option).
We should be able to get through the entire game doing this.
u/ param sSpeaker - tag (string) of person to speak with.
*/
void DoQuickConversation(string sSpeaker)
{
if (sSpeaker != "")
{
TPrint("Speaking with " + sSpeaker);
object oSpeaker = GetObjectByTag(sSpeaker);
PerformDialog(oSpeaker);
WaitFor(3.0f);
}
WaitUntil(IsInDialog() == TRUE, 40.0f);
while(IsInDialog() == TRUE)
{
SendDialogReply(0);
ConsoleCommand("sendmessage GameModeController.SkipDialog"); //skip response so it goes by faster.
WaitFor(1.0f);
TPrint("Spamming conversation with '1'");
}
}

There's more: instead of writing complex combat AI for Aluvian, they just gave Aluvian god-powers. If the bot accidentally wanders into a fight, the script literally just screams CWR_RunScript("killallhostiles"); into the developer console every 5 seconds until the room is dead, and then casually goes back to walking.

Aluvian also really hated doors. And rocks. But mostly doors. In OpenDoor, the bot tries to click a door, waits to see if the door's animation state actually changes, and if it doesn't, it angrily tries 5 more times.

int OpenDoor(string sTag)
{
int nMaxTries = 5;
int i = 0;
int nAfterAnim, nCurrentAnim;
object oDoor = GetObjectByTag(sTag);
if (GetIsObjectValid(oDoor))
{
MoveToObject(sTag); //todo: get return vaule
nCurrentAnim = GetCurrentAnimation(oDoor);
for (i; i<nMaxTries; i++)
{
CWR_RunScript("zz_usespecificobject " + sTag + " PLACEABLE_ACTION_OPEN");
nAfterAnim = GetCurrentAnimation(oDoor);
if (nAfterAnim != nCurrentAnim)
{
i = nMaxTries + 1;
}
else
{
TPrint("Door '" + sTag + "' did not change animation. Trying to open again.");
}
//todo: needs WaitFor()?
}

So there you have it: Aluvian Darkstar - an elvish mage with god-like powers who says the first thing that comes to her mind, and whose sole weakness is a locked door.

The Zen repeater has two WiFi ethernet ports at the back. Can I wire two devices to it?

Sounds like a silly question I know, but their docs are sparse and it what I did find advises one port to the device the other back to the router. Nothing about two devices via ethernet

Your account can potentially be banned for using the T word.

Two minds about this. In one sense, it's nice seeing that the word is giving the weight it deserves. In the other sense, as a member of said community that word, a variation of Tadhg, is used to mock, I often find myself using it as a form of ironic lampshading at certain situations found in the news here. It feels uncomfortable being told that I am banned from using a word ironically when others are free to do so unironically.

It also has wider implications, as this was clearly AI reviewed and I doubt it will understand the nuance of many conversations here.

Dunno. Maybe the answer is to just not engage with the website at all.
