Handrail broke at joint

Any ideas how best to repair this? Im thinking it needs a cross brace for support. Not quite sure how to do that though. Thanks

Seeking advice for matching stain

I’m repairing a piece of furniture where I had to sand down a small portion in the lower left of the picture. I sanded to 150 grit, and wiped with mineral spirits per stain manufacturers instructions, before applying two coats of oil based gel stain. I’m wondering what I can do to match the color a little better. Obviously it needs to be darker. Do I go with a stain that seems much darker but then we’ll end up matching like java because it always ends up a lot lighter than it looks going on. Also, what can I do about the margin that seems to have an outline of where the stain doesn’t adhere very well. Thank you.

Can I pull out these small dents myself?

I don’t have any experience with this, but I’m wondering if I can try to pull these out myself, or is that not a good idea.
