29 year old Industrial Engineer thinking about an Environmental Science career change
Just like the title says, I’m a 29 year old IE in the Tennessee/N GA area. My degree is in Mechatronics engineering but my job for four years has been industrial engineering for a textile company.
Truth be told, I really regret going into engineering/manufacturing and I can’t see myself working in a deeply corporate industrial environment forever. My first passion growing up was always the outdoors, nature, and the sciences.
I’m a naturally curious, exploratory person…The nature of field science has really captivated me for a while. I love the idea of splitting time between collecting samples outside, working on field stations, and then using office work moreso for research.
I might and probably do have a rosy view of environmental science. I just wanted to get some advice if it makes sense for me to pursue a masters in E.S.
I make 83K/year now and live close to the TN river where there are a decent amount of environmental related jobs. I don’t really care about money too much so long as I don’t take a major drop to this salary. I just genuinely can’t do a fluorescent light filled manufacturing office job for the rest of my life.
Any thoughts or advice?
