Best way to deal with interrupting students?

My students are ages 7-9, there are six of them. We've had a pretty bad issue this week of interrupting in the middle of class. I teach ballet, and while they insist they're excited for the class, when it comes time to actually do ballet, they're constantly interrupting me while I'm teaching. It's not with questions, either. I'll be explaining an exercise and they'll blurt out "did you know that..." or "one time I..." or "can I tell you that..." and start on a tangent that has nothing to do with class. I know they're kids, I love working with kids and I love teaching ballet, but I've had a long week and no matter how many times I try to talk to them about it, they will not stop. Any tips?

where to find silly lighters? - help!!

my boyfriend's birthday is coming up and he's expressed some desire for a zippo-style lighter. he likes when things are cool, slightly silly, and functional. i've seen a few fun shaped, silly vintage-style lighters throughout my travels, but i'm not sure where to look now that i actually need one!! if anyone could recommend where to look for this style of lighter, that would be awesome. preferably somewhere online, i work 50+ hours per week and lack the time to go on the hunt for one. thank you!!

Serena's treatment of Dan and Blair (s4 spoilers)

I'm sorry, where does Serena get the audacity to act like Blair and Dan did the worst thing ever when they kissed?? Yes, it's a betrayal, but you know what else is a betrayal? Taking Nate's virginity. I can't believe nobody brought this up.

Tired of the "can i go en pointe?" posts

I swear, I see at least three posts a day asking about what can be done at home to quicken the advancement to pointe. It's always by women like me (late teens, early 20s) who have been taking ballet one hour a week for 1-2 years. I sincerely hope all of you meet your goals, and that one day you do get to dance en pointe, but seriously, if you are as into ballet as you claim, how do you not know that pointe requires a significant amount of training and strength? Do one google search and you'll find that pointe is not something that can be started on a whim, and that it's downright dangerous to start at home, especially when you haven't built the proper strength and technique to avoid injury.

I hope you get to start pointe, and when you do, I hope you all feel fulfilled and proud of yourselves, but I'm tired of this sub being flooded with the same question that you already know the answer to. I'm convinced that everyone knows they can't start yet, they just don't want to admit it to themselves. Keep training, wait, build technique, build strength. There's no rush, and you have your while life to dance en pointe. Sorry for the rant, I just had a piece to say.

Looking for a non-spicy fantasy novel with an ensemble cast!

I love fantasy but I can't stand smut. It feels like it's everywhere these days, and I feel like romantasy has taken fantasy's place a little bit. I don't mind a bit of romance, but I don't want it to be the main focus of the novel. I love a quest and a rag-tag team. I've read Six of Crows and I really wanted to like it, but something about it didn't click for me. Any suggestions?

professionals/long time dancers: what are some exercises/stretches that you swear by?

i recently took a year off ballet due to an injury and my flexibility is GONE. i stretch once a day for about 30 minutes but i swear, it's like my hamstrings are made of rock. no matter what i do or how often i stretch, my hamstrings will not loosen up. it sucks because my hip flexors are strong and my turnout is decent but my hamstrings are so stiff which makes my extensions so low :((

what exercises and stretches do you guys do for your hamstrings and extensions in general? is there anything you swear by to loosen them up?

I don't really mind living vicariously through everyone at stoop fest

i bought my stoop fest tickets as soon as they dropped and made plans for a road trip to lansing. i booked a shitty hotel that i couldn't afford, budgeted for gas, made my boyfriend get his passport, all for the opportunity to see some of my favourite bands (that never come through canada) play live while getting shoved around by welcoming strangers. i hit a pretty bad slump in january and the only thing keeping me going was this trip.

fast forward to now, my older sister recently got diagnosed with brain cancer. of course i cancelled my hotel, tried to sell my tickets, and flew with the rest of our family to visit her in europe. music takes on new meanings when we go through new hard things, and folk punk has been a huge crutch for me with all this going on.

i'm disappointed i didn't get to throw down to my favourite songs, but i'm lucky to have the privilege of listening to them on my own while watching all the videos posted here. i'm so glad all the awesome, kind weirdos on this sub are having fun – my only complaint is that my tickets didn't go to anyone else. i would've given them away for free if it meant someone who couldn't afford it got to tear up the pit in my place.

stay strong everyone. yeah, everything is tough right now but i'd like to think we're a resilient bunch. keep on loving, keep on fighting.
