Todoist style subtasks vs TickTick-style checklist+subtask split — which do you actually want?
Hi everyone,
I've built a productivity app and currently it has subtask under a parent task. User can checkoff subtasks independently and can only checkoff the parent task if all subtasks under the parent task are completed. Now, I'm trying to UX of a task based on two situation given below:
- Todoist-style: every subtask is just a task. Nest it under a parent, give it its own due date/reminder if you want, or leave it blank. One flexible object.
- TickTick-style: two separate things — a lightweight *checklist item* (no own date, just inherits the parent's deadline) and a full *subtask* (own date/reminder, more like a mini task).
If you use either app (or something similar), which do you actually reach for? Do you ever want one parent task with steps due on different days but still grouped together, or do checklists + separate tasks cover it fine for you?
Trying to figure out if the added flexibility of "every subtask can be scheduled" is worth the extra complexity, or if most people are happy with the simpler split. Curious what your actual usage looks like?
I'm currently improving this and releasing it soon so please share your feedback or ideas.
Thanks in advance
