meaning of "not communicative"

hi everyone, quick question. normally i receive 5s on my lessons, but someone gave me a 3 and said "not communicative" even though i asked follow-up questions, he seemed engaged in the lesson, and said there was nothing left to go over that we didn't get to before when we asked. he also told me he prefers i paraphrase after we go over each question.

i think it's quite obnoxious when students say the lesson was fine then give a low rating. it also gives me minor anxiety that these ratings will harm my booking rate, which has been steady so far. i asked follow up questions, checked in, etc - so i am wondering what "not communicative" means. am i missing something here? thanks!

rating frustration

hi! recently joined Ringle and am enjoying it so far. however, i had a bit of a frustrating situation today. i've had several lessons today. all students who gave me a review gave five stars, and i had a 4.8 rating...until one girl gave me a 2/5. i did what i always do with students: checked in with them about their requests, repeatedly asked if they had questions, if everything made sense. i had a long convo with this student and offered the minimum six paraphrases for a 40-minute lesson. she left no review but flagged "not enough conversation" though i repeatedly asked many follow up questions. our document is a long one.

i emailed Ringle with an appeal. this is a little frustrating since no other feedback was given, the student didn't express any confusion, and i checked off all of her boxes. this is a decent way for me to make extra cash, so i don't want this random 2/5 to hurt me. any insight on what to do if Ringle rejects my appeal?

how to assert boundaries/stop feeling embarrassed/stop asking questions? feeling many things rn

hey reddit. feeling many things and am curious for some male insight here. anything would be appreciated. F23 and M23 for reference. made a post like this before, this is kind of an update. deleted the first one before i saw the post rules. will try not to make this too long. if you read this - thank you <3.

long story short i have a close male friend I’ve known for about 2 years now. he has always acted different around me. my female friend said it well i think - he’s a little over the top. he constantly compliments me, sends me life updates including an outfit of the day and a pic of his haircut, news and pics of his family including a baby pic of him and his siblings, tells me i am worth worshipping (though he thinks of me as a friend), we talk almost everyday, he wanted to go to paris with me for a week, has his siblings follow me on socials (but none of his other friends who i think he's known longer than me), sleeps in my bed when he visits, sends me things that remind him of me frequently (‘thought of u’), asked me what names i like for my children (?), lets me call him a special nickname only his family does, says weird things that sound like jealousy when i hang out with other men, even asked me where a male friend slept when he came over once - maybe i am overreacting but this struck me as territorial. there’s prob more i’m forgetting. the key thing here is i do not think he does this with anyone else and that he is always the instigator.

he says he thinks of me as a friend. we went out about a month ago he tried to ditch me for another girl he had just met so…there’s that. he apologized and i can tell he feels bad. he gave me a little apology note. not to my face though, he left it at our apartment front desk. fast-forward to now: i told him not to contact me for a month because i was so hurt by that. we recently ended no-contact. he went on vacation and bought a gift for me. also told me he was thinking of me during the trip. that's nice and all but i was tempted to ask him why he is buying me things during separation.

he has shown me where he stands and while i am being distant in our convos, i still want him around as a friend. despite that one incident i do not think he is a player and would play with my emotions, but i just don't understand him - done asking questions though. i seem to have some pull on him that i don't understand, either. my friends say he needs me, not the other way around. he was trying to text me like nothing happened before i asked him to stop. my male friend thinks he would've "crashed tf out" had i kissed a guy at the party we went to. who knows.

i feel embarrassed about this for some reason, though i did nothing wrong. i just feel stupid and led on. i do plan on asserting boundaries and plan on calling him out when he says something weird again, though tips for how to do so would be welcomed. trying not to ask questions though i've never experienced this before. any insight would be much appreciated. thank you sm.

is this normal? looking for some insight

hey reddit. feeling very confused and am curious for some male insight here. anything would be appreciated. F23 and M23 for reference.

he says he thinks of me as a friend. we recently went out and he tried to ditch me for another girl he had just met so…there’s that (he apologized). distancing myself for that bc i’m hurt he’d just try to leave but anyway. he has shown me where he stands and maybe i’m crazy but no man has ever acted this way around me and it makes me so confused…men on here, do you have this kind of dynamic with your other female friends? is this ‘normal’ for platonic behavior and i am just overthinking? again…never experienced this before and it’s just a bit odd to me. i guess i kinda feel led on.

insight would he much appreciated since i’m thinking of having a boundaries talk soon.

feeling really betrayed and hurt by a close friend, trying to move on but still feeling awful and questioning things. what to do to make it stop?

will try to keep this short - feel like this may be a good sub for this post?

TL;DR: friend who had been acting very confusing came to visit me, we go to an event, he tries to leave me for another girl.

i had a close friend come to visit me for my birthday a month ago. i feel like this is an important detail - he invited himself over. we have been close for about 2 years now. everything was going well, my other friends liked him, we were having fun. i loved that he was there and i loved that he put in the effort to fly over. the next day is when it got bad. long story short, we go to a ball i had to put a ton of effort into getting him into (finding a ticket and some other logistics)...and he tries to leave me for another girl at the end. we were outside, he asked me to wait in the cold for him. i did, that's when he starts texting me he may leave with this girl he just met. don't know her, she was a friend of a friend and heard she turned him down.

my friend gently confronted him over almost leaving me. we leave, get back to my place and my guest wants to talk to me. he basically talks about me like i hung the moon, how amazing i am, how i'm worth worshipping (???), how highly he thinks of me, but how we are "just friends". i don't think that convo was doing what he thought it would. this was at 2 am, i had to work the next day, i was exhausted, and i was a bit tipsy, so i didn't properly express myself, just listened to him ramble.

this is where the 'history' in the title comes in. he was a very close friend of mine, always at my side. we do not live in the same country yet talked every day, he would send me random life updates about him and his family. it was nice. i'd asked him what he thought of me before because i unfortunately caught feelings, and he said he thinks of me as a friend. that's fine, it happens. however his actions said otherwise, i thought. all of my friends thought the same. he would be WAY over the top complimenting me ('worshipping'), joked about being my bf once, asked me what names i would name my children, would send me things that made him 'think of' me all the time, would get uneasy when i mentioned being around a male friend (this one gets me), sleep in my bed, talk about his family like he was setting me up to be in it (have his siblings follow me on socials but not other friends), lets me call him a nickname only his family does, wanted to go to paris with me for a week, there's prob more i'm forgetting but he blatantly gives me special treatment. my friends were surprised that we had never even kissed. i thought maybe he was afraid of commitment or didn't want to do long distance or something. out of context, our convos look like we're in something long-term. it felt like dating though it wasn’t official.

he did apologize to me by leaving a letter at my apartment, which he told my friend about but not me...lol. trying to keep this short as possible. i have many mixed emotions. now i was not getting my hopes up given what he said about us being friends months ago. i was getting mixed signals before but they got 10x worse after he turned me down. if all of my friends think he's being confusing, i guess it's a sign he is. they'd tell me if i was delusional. i feel so sad. on a friendly level that he would just leave me on our last night together. also brokenhearted for other reasons. i feel so stupid for thinking he was just scared of commitment, and i feel used - he told my friend who confronted him he had a suspicion i was into him, and i feel hurt that he tried to pull this when he had that thought. i hadn't seen him in months before this. he said he sensed jealousy from me when i asked him what his new murky plans were, but i don't think that's fair because he gets uneasy when i mention hanging out with men. i just wanted to spend time with my friend. i appreciate his note, but wish he apologized to my face. next day and the day after he was texting me like nothing was wrong. my friend told him to offer me space. he obviously did not do that.

hurt and embarrassment aside...i feel so confused. i told him i need some distance for a month, we have not talked for 2 weeks now. def taking his word, but i'm so lost. why would he be giving me the "girlfriend treatment" (to quote a friend) and treating me like i'm so special just to do this? none of my friends can get a read on him. my male friends think he would've crashed out had i kissed some other guy but idk how true that is. he was never a player and i never suspected he'd be toying with my emotions but now i'm second-guessing him and that sucks because before he was a good friend. "gross" is another way to describe how i feel. he's never hurt me before until this.

there is a gap in my life because we would talk everyday. obviously not doing that now. i feel so betrayed and used and confused and sad. how do i stop questioning why he is the way he is? i want answers, though i won't get any. just very over the top. how do i stop feeling so awful? i know time helps, but it's often slow. i still want to be friends after our distance is up but it won't be the same. it is very hard for me to develop romantic feelings for people. if you read this, thank you.

mixed signals after getting turned down...? 24f, 24m

hello reddit - reaching out for some advice, as some very inexperienced in relationships. (tag is as it is bc idk what else to label this).

i have been close friends with a boy for a little over a year now. we always had an odd friendship - he did things before that i don't think a man would do (correct me if i'm wrong) to a girl he thought of as just a friend: blow me kisses, only come hang out when i'm there, singling me out in convos. we even sleep in the same bed when he visits. so around the holidays i asked him if he'd like to go out. he said he just thought of me as a friend.

i know that's confirmation, but i'm still getting mixed signals, and they've gotten more intense. to start, he proposed going to paris with me for a week (???). he's still complimenting me all the time saying my hair looks good like a model's, i'm such an inspiration. he asked his sibling to follow me on social media even though i have never met them & they do not follow any of his other friends, even those who he has known for longer than he has known me. this is the part that really gets me too - he seems uneasy when i mention i hang out with men. he asked me where a mutual male friend slept when he came to see me and told me he has "never heard of this guy before" when i told him i hung out with a boy i had not mentioned to him before. he's also mentioning how it's been X amount of time since we last saw each other (we don't live close), and to "take him back" to that day. he also lets me call him special nicknames.

he's not on the apps, not going out to meet girls, & he's not a player so i highly doubt he was acting romantically with the interest of saying no in the end. i'm just so confused. i'm taking his words at face value but why would he be jealous of me hanging out with other boys? any advice on what to do, insight from similar situations, or any other related help would be much appreciated.

f24 receiving mixed signals from m24 despite being turned down. very confused & trying to keep the friendship, but lost.

sharing here bc i think this is the most ideal community given context. i hope this is not too long! anyway...

TLDR: close friend turned me down after months of leading me on, yet still gives mixed signals that have worsened since rejecting me. i want to remain close friends but am not sure how to navigate this - feeling really confused & still hurt.

hello reddit - reaching out for some advice, as some very inexperienced in relationships. i will try to keep this vague for privacy, but any advice would be much appreciated. thank you ❤️.

so i have been close friends with a boy for a little over a year now. we instantly clicked & i feel like we understand each other very well. we met on an exchange program & were always together - always hanging out, sitting together, talking, etc. my closest friends even told me we'd make a great couple. last time i saw him, we slept in the same bed.

now i have never had a boyfriend, however he would do things that sounded like he was interested in me: always singled me out in convos, always came to hangouts if he knew i'd be there, blew me kisses once, always complimented me, even over the smallest things. we'd talk for hours. it got to the point in our group where i was the point of contact for him because he listened "to me the most". he was sweeter to me than he was to others & acted differently around me than anyone else, especially the girls in our group.

i grew to like him a lot and felt i could be myself around him. everyone seemed to notice the chemistry, so that was not all in my head. so around the holidays i asked him if he'd like to go out. he said he just thought of me as a friend.

i know that's confirmation, but here is where my confusion comes in. i'm still getting mixed signals, and they've gotten more intense. to start, he proposed going to paris with me for a week (???). he's still complimenting me all the time saying my hair looks good like a model's, i'm such an inspiration. he asked his sibling to follow me on social media even though i have never met them & they do not follow any of his other friends, even those who he has known for longer than he has known me. this is the part that really gets me too - he seems uneasy when i mention i hang out with men. he asked me where a mutual male friend slept when he came to see me and told me he has "never heard of this guy before" when i told him i hung out with a boy i had not mentioned to him before. he's additionally sharing clips related to books & movies on his social media profiles that he knows i like despite him not having seen this content himself. he's also mentioning how it's been X amount of time since we last saw each other (we don't live close), and to "take him back" to that day. he also lets me call him special nicknames. we do not live in the same state, however i do not think he acts this way around other women, based on what i have witnessed before.

he sends me selfies frequently & little life updates, which are cute...but i can't lie it's hurtful. he wants to see me for my birthday, which i have mixed feelings about because i feel led on & those mixed signals have become worse since he turned me down. my friends say he's acting like a boyfriend would. my older brother doesn't like him bc of all this but says i should ask him how he feels again because it's crazy. i would, but i feel like it would just be embarrassing if he said no again.

he is very important to me & i'm trying to hold onto this friendship, but it's hurting...he's not on the apps, not going out to meet girls, & he's not a player so i highly doubt he was acting romantically with the interest of saying no in the end. i'm just so confused. i'm taking his words at face value but why would he be jealous of me hanging out with other boys? i want to set boundaries or confront him nicely but i don't want to ruin our friendship or make things awkward. it is very hard for me to make romantic connections, so i feel very stuck. he is a lovely person and i don’t think he means to make me feel awful but my mind is a little boggled on how he doesn’t realize that this is kinda odd behavior for a platonic friend.

any advice on what to do, insight from similar situations, or any other related help would be much appreciated. if you read this far, thank you sm.
