Recommendations for a good BIFL backpack for a university student

Hey all! I made a post similar to this in r/backpacks to no avail. I'm currently looking for a good (but not terribly expensive) backpack for University/College. I've done my research, and by research I mean looking up 'Backpack name + reddit' and going on r/BuyItForLife and typing the word backpack. I only have two sets of criteria I want my ideal backpack to have outside of the cost.

I currently own a TNF Jester (for roughly 8 months) and my experience with it has been surprisingly subpar. The backpack is effectively always bent, which means my notebooks are bent as well, and it has resulted in two notebooks breaking.

I'm mainly looking for a backpack that has good water resistance, as it rains a lot where I live, even during summer time. I also want it to have a 17 inch laptop sleeve for convenience. The standard from what I see is 15 inches but I have a quite thick laptop (studying CS), and my TNF Jester's 15 inch sleeve doesn't do anything.

I've done a bit of research and have come across three backpacks I'm looking at purchasing, though I'd appreciate any recommendations or words of advice against or towards one of my three possible picks. I'm looking to spend AT MOST $150 USD.

  1. I found the Carhartt 35L Triple-Compartment Backpack at $130 USD and it meets both of my ideal choices! It has a 17-inch sleeve for my laptop and seems to have water resistance. I did read a reddit post from someone who got a 28L backpack from them and had a less than stellar time with it, stating that much of the price came from the brand and not the materials.

  2. The SwissGear 1900 Backpack at $99 USD and meets one of the two criteria. It has the 17-inch sleeve but no water resistance, with reviews pointing out how light rain quickly results with the internals of the backpack getting wet, which is NOT what I'm looking for.

  3. Lastly I found the Patagonia Refugio Daypack 26L/30L at $135 USD and meets one of the two criteria. It doesn't have the 17-inch sleeve but DOES have water resistance. Not much else to say here other than I like the colorways.

I've checked Osprey but they seem like the same price as Patagonia (if not more expensive) and meeting the same criteria as the Refugio. Tom Binh does have some backpacks with 16-inch sleeves but the price is far too high for me. I'm also interested in an Aer backpack but reviews either alternate between saying its great or claiming the opposite, and again, the prices are a bit too high for me.

If anyone has any suggestions or comments regarding these I highly appreciate them :)

Backpacks for Uni Student

Anyone know a good backpack for university? I currently own a North Face Jester but it's proven to be the worst backpack I own given that it doesn't fit my laptop inside the sleeve (forcing it in might lead to breaking it) and the laptop sleeve/whatever padding they use for the back is bending my notebooks, and last semester it led to two notebooks beginning to break.

I'm currently browsing on Amazon and have settled for two options, a North Face Borealis and a Swiss Gear 1900. I've seen mostly everything I want including all the criteria below but I really would love anybody who owns these two or have any suggestions to give, to please send em over!

A. Waterproof (or at least resistant), as it rains fairly often where I live and I walk from my apartment to campus

B. A 17-inch laptop sleeve would be preferred, but it isn't really anything I'm dead set on wanting.

C. Multiple pockets! The Borealis has those and I store quite a few things in the Jester's secondary pocket like a Power Bank, food, etc

Squid Blades are wild on rifts

I LOVE these things, we cleared a rift in 30s

I love the Squid Blades...

..Alongside the other two new weapons in S2. My favorite of the three will still be the Squid Blades (I chose Wolf Stick first and it was pretty good solely due to the fact you can draw enemies away from you with the aggro, but now that I have the squid blades, which can heal fairly well paired with some crazy burst damage which goes real hard in rifts, letting me use the spiral attack roughly every 5 seconds assuming I don't get knocked back (which the spiral attack prevents from happening) and I've gotten well over 100k damage more than teammates running Fists or Speedshot.

I massively regret going for the Wolf Stick first. I have been able to five star rifts and get the speedrun bonus (something which I wasn't able to do consistently) and paired with the increased chance to get cores, I feel like mo.co's already taking proper shape! Masteries are a good start, paired with the fact you can get OC cores from them by playing the game is great too! I've been able to do all three dojos for the Blades and did them in 5 seconds less than the 40s requirement with some clear room for improvement.

I'm enjoying the game a lot more now and I wanna see what else the team makes :)

I've realized how shockingly bad I am at saving money

Today I've (19M) come to grips that I am horrible at not wasting my money. For context, I'm a university student in Puerto Rico (making $10.50 an hour) and am making per month roughly $600 dollars with no 'necessary' expenditures. I live with my parents while I study and they insist on not making me pay rent + I walk to campus and my job. I thought I'd be great at saving money but I realize that I'm spending roughly 90% of what I make in a month, in things like Uber Eats, Amazon Purchases, etc.

In order to try and rectify these issues I have, I cancelled all memberships I don't actively use (Prime for Young Adults mainly) and have deleted Amazon, Shop, Uber Eats and Klarna in order to steer myself away from buying even more. I spoke with my dad in a serious conversation about me saving money (it was him who made me realize how awful I am at saving money) and that leads me to here.

Does anyone have any additional tips on how to save money? I've already got planned heading tomorrow to my local bank to see if I can automatically redirect $25 to $30 onto my savings account, as the bank account I signed up for has both a checkings and savings 'section' (don't know the terminology), and I'm also going to be putting in roughly $500 dollars that I had already taken out for any emergency expenditures inside said savings section. Does anyone have any additional tips for not spending money, or is it all down to pure discipline at this point?

Is Zen faster now?

I hate to sound like a broken record but as much as I love zen, it's performance is a deep issue on my laptop. My laptop isn't weak (16GB ram, etc) but a single tab takes twice as long compared to base chrome or helium. I love Boosts and want to use them but don't wanna sacrifice performance :[

Hey all! I've been looking to get a pair of On shoes (I passed up a chance to buy them a few months ago and regret it badly as they've been on my mind since)… but I don't know what's the right pair for me. I'm going to be using mine for my university/college commute every day, and ideally I want them to have a good level of comfort without making me trip on my feet too much (I own a pair of shoes with a LOT of cushion and I tend to drag my feet/trip myself up exclusively with those)

I've seen the Cloud 6s, the Cloudtilts and the Cloudnova 2, can y'all try and help me find my ideal pair?

EDIT: I forgot to add this, but I've heard that these shoes have less than great durability, and I wanted to see what your opinion is regarding that!
