I'm buying a house!

For a lot of reasons, I don't want to fully announce to my socials that I'm buying a home. But I want someone to be excited with me! lol

I put in the offer Friday morning and it was accepted yesterday. It's an earth-contact home, 3 bed, 2 bath, about 1800 square feet, with a large garage/shop and small shed also on the property. It's a little over 5 acres in a quiet area with homes that aren't too close, but within sugar-borrowing distance. It's isolated and backs up into some woods and a small creek. It's all up-to-date and has been well-loved by a couple for 40ish years.

I'm so excited to get started making the home my own. I don't close until November 25 (day before Thanksgiving), so I have a little bit of time to plan and get everything lined up for the move. All of a sudden, things are happening! The list of things I need/want is no longer hypothetical, and it seems to be quickly expanding!

EDIT: I forgot to add the coolest parts! My parents have both passed away - my dad went this past April. As I was walking through the home, the kitchen backsplash reminded me *so much* of the flooring in my parents' house that I grew up in. And then I noticed a wall-mounted grandfather clock that looked almost exactly like the one my parents had hanging in their foyer and my mom always stressed about my brothers and I knocking it off as we ran through the house. It felt like they were both "approving" my home. 💕

If you didn't take your lunch, did you buy it at school with lunch money, lunch tickets, or lunch codes?

I was in the lunch ticket window. I think they switched to codes when adults realized tickets can be stolen as easily as cash.

What game do you now refuse to play with your siblings, and why is it RISK?

I swear my brothers were conspiring against me every time.

I'm packing for a trip and so, so thankful we live in a society with wheels on suitcases.

I hated lugging those big rectangles around.

Hi. I need some emotional propping up, please.

My father (who is dead)*, found a file where my dad had written out some of his history for what purpose we don't know. I guess it was saved on his computer and my brother, in the business of being the executor of our dad's will, found this file and sent it to the rest of us (which is myself, other brother, and two sisters-in-law).

It was titled "The Story of My Life" and was a whopping 2 1/2 pages, and written 12 years ago. It gave a brief sum-up of his childhood and some of meeting my mom and a little about how they ended up where they were at that time, which was on a mission in Russia. I honestly did not know some of the things he had written in there about his parents and childhood. He was a very gruff, closed off person on the exterior and any time I had ever tried to ask him about his life, he would give terse one or two word answers and never expound on any of it.

So it was nice reading through it and getting the scraps of info. And then I got to the third page and the last paragraph and the last line and I'm crying like a f'ing fool.

I'm 48 years old, still wishing for some approval from my parents I'll never get.

*I just looked up the "who is dead" thing because I wanted to make sure I remembered the wording correctly and apparently the church dropped that phrasing a few years ago? Wild.

How many of us had a little red wagon?

My brothers used to pull me around the yard in ours. When I got a little older, I helped them carry firewood from the side yard to the house with it.

I think time travel to the past would be detrimental to anyone who could "access" it.*

*This is with the idea that travel can happen more than once

We (generally speaking) spend so much time already *wishing* we could change things, have a redo on a moment, or make a different choice. We dwell on the past and relive it in our minds in one way or another. Some of us get figuratively stuck there in the glory days or unable to get over a tragedy or disappointment.

The ability to turn back time and do it over, whatever "it" may be, would neutralize personal progression because we'd be always wanting to undo choices, and give ourselves another chance to do better or avoid embarrassment or strike first. I think it would lead to an obsession with the pursuit of a "perfect" life for more than a few people.

Clearly I've made a lot of assumptions as to what a person can do or know or remember through their time travels, but what are your thoughts?

How does one go about finding businesses that are for sale?

What specific items of "due diligence" should a buyer be aware of? What can a small business owner do to prepare for a buyout?

I had an amusing misadventure with a pickup truck earlier in this past weekend, so for this rental I opted for the familiar Rogue, which is my car at home.

I have no interest or capacity for technical or performance aspects, generally speaking. But I'm very much a person who gets irritated with poor design features that don't seem to have been considered for the end user.

Red circle - the car has an Idle Stop feature, which makes it feel like the car is about to stall and die at low RPM, much like a neglected clutch at a stoplight. I thought there was something wrong until I googled and learned that can be shut off by a button to the left of the steering wheel. It is only off until the engine is shut off; when restarting the car the Idle Stop will be enabled again. It was fine once I knew it was a feature not a bug, but that will surely bother some people.

Blue circle - cheers to the physical buttons and knob, jeers to the blinding glare from the sun being at just the right angle depending on which direction I'm facing. (Minor cheers to the volume indicator not having numbers, which really causes my OCD some issues if the comfortable listening level lands on a number that "feels" wrong.)

Yellow circle - a common touchscreen complaint of fingerprints leaving their marks all over the glass

Other than that, it was comfortable and landed in the *would buy again* category.
