Cayman EV and the Taycan

I've read a lot of concern about the new Cayman being an EV, and losing the sole of what makes the Cayman great. But I just spent this last weekend babysitting my granddaughter, and driving her mother's (my daughter's) bran new 2026 base Taycan. She has a Tesla for 6 years, so I had a lot of experience with that car, but the Taycan was a whole new world! It did not drive at all like the an EV, but felt more live an ICE car, except for the acceleration. I can't imagine what the Taycan Turbo would be like. The regen breaking was nothing like a Tesla, and more like lifting the gas on a manual transmission that was in 3rd gear. Just perfection.

If the new Cayman is anything like the Taycan, I think people will be pleasantly surprised at how well it does. Ya, it won't have the sound of a internal combustion engine, and I understand some of you dislike the 718 four because it doesn't sound like the six. But for pure handling and acceleration, I think the Cayman EV will be a hit.

Flying over water for first time

I have a bran new drone that I got as a gift, so didn't have a choice. I have a Ruko F11PRO 2. I've flown it about two hours so far. I live by the ocean in Southern California, and I'm a surfer, so I'd like to try taking some videos of my friends surfing, but the idea of flying over the water scares me.

I know the two hours is not much, and I plan on flying a lot more before I try the water. What tips or advice can you give on flying over water, other than just practice more? Are there any exercises I could try over land to better my skills for water shots?

Thanks

How to learn about a new Taycan

My daughter and Son-in-law (SIL) just got a new base Taycan, upgrading from a Tesla X. They were not real pleased with the "training session" they got at delivery. My SIL said it looked like a 19 year old kid who kept having to go asked somebody when he didn't know the answer, and he had bad BO, and my SIL was afraid he was smelling up the new leather seats. So he ended it early. I'm guessing it was the owners kid or some other nepotism situation.

Anyway, it will be my daughter's car, and she has put me in charge of learning about the car, and then training her with something new each time I see her. I've read over the quick start guild I found online, and will be using it to start off the "training". Are there any other resources I should use?

BTW, she loves the car! I drove it and I like the fact it does NOT drive like an electric car, but feels more like an ICE car, except for the acceleration, which is all electric!

Thanks for any suggestions.

[United States] No Fly grid map question (illogical grid)

I would like to film surfing at the beach in the red circle on the attached map. The RED zone is a local Naval Base. As you can see, the quirk in the way the grid is made, over half the beach is in "0 altitude" box, and a small portion is in a 300 ft box. The illogical thing is that the northern area is actual farther away from the base than the edge of the 300 ft box. If I put in a LAANC request for the 300 ft box, would anybody care if I then walked North to the other end of the beach (farther away from the base). Or do I need to do a DroneZone request?

[United States] Airspace Waiver for more than 1 day

I want to fly in a coastal dune area in California (Mandalay Beach Park, Oxnard CA 34.1792, -119.2375 ). It is a class D area due to small airport about 3 miles away. It has a 200 ft ceiling. I tried to use the LAANC app, but it said "LAANC is inactive for the planned operational area" . I went to DroneZone to get an Airspace Waiver/Certificate of Authorization for a year, but it said it was a LAANCE area, and I could only request for one day. But LAANCE said it was inactive. How can I request a year waiver?

$400 for a transmission flush?

My Honda dealer recommends a transmission flush for $400. Is a flush different that just a drain and fill? Car is a 2019 CRV with the CVT, 36K miles. Can the deal just drain the fluid for less if I tell them?

Synthetic vs Regular oil

My 2006 Civic came with regular oil when new. Is the oil maintenance minder calibrated for regular oil then, or does it adjust when I use synthetic? Can I go longer than the interval if I use synthetic?

Guess the Satellite

This should be easy for you satellite geeks! I was able to get mechanical (now unclassified) drawings of this satellite, so all the angles and proportions are correct. It took about 10 hours of work, and lots of trial and errors to get it right.

Kennedy in a bag

In 1964, my mom took me and my little brother to a bank in a little Idaho town. She gave the teller a one dollar bill, and asked for two of the brand new Kennedy half dollars. We each got one. When we got home, she put them in a plastic bag, and sewed it shut with her sewing machine. The photo shows the original coin, in the plastic bag for 62 years. While not uncirculated, I would guess it would be in VF condition. I think I'll just leave it in the bag, for mom's sake. She turns 90 this year.

That is my father (red arrow). He turns 90 next month. Photo taken in 1939. What car is this?
