In April 1898, Cecil Hudson, the young son of Redfern timber merchant George Hudson, was fatally injured in a cycling accident in Regent Street, Sydney.
Cecil was cycling with his older brother when they encountered a six-horse wagon carrying sheepskins near the intersection of Regent and Banks streets. While swerving to avoid a passing milk cart, Cecil’s bicycle slipped on the wet wooden roadway, throwing him beneath the heavily laden wagon. One of its wheels passed over his left thigh, causing catastrophic injuries.
He was rushed to hospital, where doctors were forced to amputate his leg due to severe crushing and damage to the major arteries. Despite their efforts, Cecil died later that evening.

Professor Yull Brown (born Ilia Valkov) was born in Bulgaria on 16th April 1922. After studying electrical engineering, he was imprisoned by the communist regime following the 1948 coup. Upon his release, continued persecution forced him to flee Bulgaria. He eventually settled in Australia in 1956, where he adopted the name Yull Brown and began a new life.
In Australia, Brown completed his engineering studies and developed Brown’s Gas, a hydrogen and oxygen gas produced through the electrolysis of water. He believed it could provide a cleaner alternative fuel and demonstrated its potential for industrial, environmental and energy applications. His work attracted international interest, particularly in China.
Professor Brown remained dedicated to advancing hydrogen energy until his death on 22nd May 1998. Although his invention was never widely adopted during his lifetime, he is remembered as an innovative engineer whose work helped inspire ongoing research into cleaner energy technologies.

Patrick Joseph Kennedy, aged 25, was killed instantly on 1st June 1923 when a catastrophic explosion destroyed the Allan Liversidge acetylene gas and calcium carbide factory on Hutchison Street, Annandale, where he was working as the nightwatchman. The blast completely demolished the building, shattered windows throughout the surrounding area and was heard across the neighbourhood.
A coronial inquiry investigated the disaster, taking evidence from the Explosives Department and the company. Although the exact cause of the explosion was never determined, it was believed to have involved the ignition of volatile acetylene gas associated with the factory’s carbide operations. The tragedy was one of Sydney’s most significant industrial explosions of the era.

Died 7th March 1914 at age 16 (it appears the press got his age wrong).
On 7th March 1914, Douglass Mansell, an employee of the Railway Commissioners, was fatally struck by a train while crossing railway tracks near Sydney.
Just six months earlier, he had survived a similar accident that resulted in the amputation of one of his legs. He had only recently returned to work.
I have a conference coming up and I need two outfits. There’s a dinner the night before and I’m hoping to find a dress or skirt and top. The next day I’m doing a presentation and I need to feel confident. I’m meeting most of my colleagues in person for the first time ever and the group is 95% men 🙈
I haven’t had to buy clothes like this for a long time. I’ve also lost weight and haven’t been able to shop at a lot of regular stores before. I’m about a size 14-16 depending on the store now.
What shops and brands should I check out? Also, what brands within Myer and David Jones would you recommend?
For reference, I usually have good luck at stores like Myer, Review, Forever New, Portmans, Sportsgirl, sometimes Uniqlo.
I’ve been a little disappointed by the fabrics that are available now - I like quality fabrics that will last so I’m happy to spend whatever I need to.
If I need to head to a Westfield/shopping centre I will, but I haven’t had much luck there recently and wanted to go somewhere I have been for a while.
I’m 35 by the way.
Thank you ☺️
We need more seating in our small living room in the form of an additional or new couch. The issue is we have a small recess to the left of the window.
We decided to order the exact same couch we already have to go under the window, but it looked all wrong. It was too deep and there was a weird overlap of the arms. Our next idea is to sell both couches and get a corner sofa that is the same length on both sides. But that means that on the window wall, the couch won’t sit flush against it due to the (annoying) recess.
We were thinking about getting one of those narrow shelves that go behind the couch where you can put your phone or drink (I’ve included a photo). We thought that might help make it look better, but it’s not that visible.
What kind of couch would work best in this room?
Notes:
The green chair doesn’t have to stay.
We can’t change the location of the TV.
Thank you ☺️

I haven’t seen much talk about this one but I’m still thinking about it a week later. Highly recommend.
Although the True Crime flair is technically accurate, if I could pick 2 the first one would be Society & Culture.
From the pod description:
A kidnapped child whispers dark secrets from his past into a cassette tape in a language no one around him understands. Decades later, that lost cassette tape resurfaces and reveals the terrifying truth that he’s not the person everyone thinks he is. What happens when the life you made collides with the life you lost?
Stop Rewind: The Lost Boy tells the true story of Taj, a child in India who was taken from his family and sent to an adoptive family half a world away. Taj never forgot who he really was – or that he was taken. But without the language or tools to return, and with no one who understood his story, the details faded, and Taj’s past was quietly boxed away.
Told through rare original recordings, immersive sound design and unforgettable first-person testimony, Stop Rewind is a story of a stolen childhood, the quest for truth, the triumph of love and the long road to belonging.
