Retained baby teeth or too soon to tell?

My cat caught and ate an entire rat… Is he good?

I hate that he is an indoor/outdoor cat to preface. I did not want this at all, when he was a kitten I begged my family to not let him outside and yet they did it anyways, constantly, especially when I was sleeping :/ so now even after 5 years he will scream if he is inside for more than a day.

Anyways, he often brings dead pigeons and squirrels to the backdoor, he doesn’t eat them, just leaves them dead at the door for me. But today I go to let him inside after he was out for maybe 3 hours and there is the biggest rat tail and rat butt and legs sitting there by him, who is hunched over and eating the rest of the rat. so basically he ate the whole thing from head to stomach (with some bit of organs laid out untouched..)

I really don’t know what to make of this, is he going to have parasites or something? he eats just fine at home, ALWAYS has a full bowl of kibble and gets treats every day. I can’t monitor his bowel movements because he only poops and pees outside and i have no idea where.

if anyone has any idea what i should do or expect please let me know!!

Cute spots to go on a lunch coffee date? Somewhere with outdoor seating and quicker service to go to during the work day. Been to Tahoe natural and Lighthouse Cafe, anywhere else?

Puppy is awkward around older people

16 week Golden retriever, he is an angel really, just gets pretty awkward when i bring him to my grandmas house. Like he will full lay down and put his head down when she goes to pet him. he doesn’t freeze like he’s scared, just lays all the way down so im not really sure what to make of the behavior. We have exposed him to many older people since we’ve gotten him at places like his puppy socializing classes, lowe’s, and on no-leg walks.

Really just wondering how to approach his awkwardness with my grandma, do i give him treats when he sees her? do i give him treats when he lays down and she’s petting him?

he does lay down freeze when loud toddler come to pet him as well, also not sure how to approach that behavior

Do you associate at all with your chinese zodiac or just astrological zodiac?

I am a pisces sun which I wholeheartedly identify with, but on the flip side I’m also a water sheep in the chinese zodiac. They’re like.. damn near the same thing so I’m just wondering what others think of the different zodiacs.

My family members seem to feel more closely tied to their chinese zodiac signs, but I see more of their astrological signs as accurate.

Any places to get local farm raised meat/dairy/poultry?

Looking for local farm raised animals products. I usually go to the farmers market for produce (although it can get pricey and the selection is very small) and sierra gold for fish, but I haven’t heard of any place selling dairy, beef or chicken.

Let me know!

Fourth of July weekend tips?

With vehicle entry reservations gone, does anyone have any tips or advice on getting into the park/what it’s like during this time of year? We are planning on camping at the park over the fourth of July weekend, or just visiting if we don’t get the campsite reservations.

Did your golden calm down after puppyhood?

Hi everyone! Beau is 3 months old (we’ve had him for a month) and is a great baby, he just goes a bit.. bonkers.. when he is gets pets. It’s like when he comes out of his crate and we give him some pets, he turns into a little monster after, barking, biting, running. When we don’t pet him, he’s much better behaved, but we want to pet our little guy!

Just wondering if others experienced this and how to went in the future. He also will NOT sleep when he’s not in his crate, he just gets overtired and again, goes banana bonkers biting and barking until we put him back to nap. We want him to sleep on our bed eventually, any tips or personal experiences with this are super welcome!

Does puppy hate his dad?

Our golden retriever puppy is 12 weeks old and we got him at 8 weeks. I (mom) usually spend the bulk of time with him while my partner is more often at work. During his first week or two with us, we were both very involved in his basic training, he learned come, leave it, drop it, sit, lay down, wait, crate. While I was the one teaching the commands, we were both reinforcing them for those first two weeks and he would listen to us both.

Now, our puppy will listen to any commands I give and not listen to dad at all. He is very gentle when around me, and goes bananas when with dad alone, like only wants to play, will bite him a lot, running around the living room, etc. I will add that I am pretty boring around pup, spending the most of our time together alone giving him puzzle toys, rewarding calm behavior, and when I play with him, i just sit there and tug on his toy. Now that my partner is working more, he just comes home and plays with him like they are wrestling. A lot of high energy play going on. I will also add that my partner gets easily frustrated with pup. For example, he was demand barking for his food the first two weeks. I ignored him diligently, just walking away until he stopped. My partner, on the other hand, made loud sounds to scare him to stop. (He has since gotten a lot more patient and been only using positive reinforcement strategies, but he’s worried the loud sounds he made caused pup to be scared of him)

Now my partner thinks pup hates him because all he does is bite him and bark and run around when they are alone, but when pup and I are alone, he just chills at my feet and rarely bites me.

Does pup actually hate dad or does he just see him as a playmate? Does he just treat us differently because he is reflecting how we treat him? How to get him to listen to dad again?

An appreciation post for my Bo

Bo is 11 weeks old has a stomach of steel. I’ve never raised a puppy before but my partner has and had given me a speech or three on how delicate puppy tummies can be, including some stories of puppy diarrhea on walls and beds and carpets.

We’ve had him for three weeks, and Bo has not had a single loose stool, and poops at exactly the same times every day. He had given us two heart attacks so far by ripping off and eating a decently sized piece of silicone from a feeding mat, and swallowing a huge hunk of his bully stick before we could grab it from him.

He pooped put the silicone piece exactly 24 hours after eating it, and there was no change in his stool after the bully stick. Bo is awesome.

First ever dog, when will i get cuddles!

i’ve never raised a puppy before and only ever had a small family dog. We got a GR puppy two weeks ago, he’s now 10 weeks old, and oh my god WHEN will i get to cuddle this guy?! he won’t fall asleep unless he’s in his crate and he will only settle on his dog bed. otherwise he’s terrorizing the cat, peeing on the floor, or bolting all over the couch or living room. he has a playpen that he hates, and just barks at us if we aren’t paying attention to him.

we’re trying to give him exercise and reward for calm behavior and it is slowly working, i just am so sad he does not want to cuddle. I love him to death and i love to play with him and train with him, it just gets overwhelming, i feel like this stage is never going to end.

Hey everyone!! Our boy is starting his teething phase and looooves to chew and chew hard. I see a lot of different information online, like no yak chews, yes yak chews, no bully sticks, yes bully sticks.. just wanted to ask what has worked for others and what to avoid! Currently he has yak chews which he loves, we also give him a frozen carrot occasionally and a frozen wet rag, and he also loves plain ice cubes. We just ordered him a pupsicle also.

Any ideas are welcome!!

Hi! We got our first golden exactly a week ago. He’s 9 weeks old now and doing pretty good, except he barks quite a bit. He barks at toys mostly, or just when he’s frustrated, wants attention, or is generally excited. It gives me quite a lot of anxiety when he barks. Currently we’re trying to just turn around and ignore him/stop playing with him when he barks but when he’s barking at his toys, this does nothing since he only cares about his toy in that moment.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Hello! This is my first dog so I am trying my best with researching training but this one thing so far is not working out that great. He is an 8 week old golden retriever that we’ve had for three days now. our setup includes his crate attached to a playpen that is behind the living room couch (he can’t usually see us as we are most often sitting on the couch).

From my research, i see a lot of people suggesting that when puppy is playing quietly by himself in his playpen, we are should reward that behavior. So, we are sitting on the couch, he will whine, I will ignore him, he stops whining and i reward with a treat or a “Yes!”. Then he starts up the whine engine again, this usually does help him fall asleep on his own, but the issue arrives at the playing. he will start playing by himself and i will reward, and then he immediately stops playing and starts whining full throttle and begging for attention and it takes the whole process over again to get him to play by himself which he usually just ends up not doing again.

I see a lot of contradictions in this. i also am not sure if i should be allowing him to sleep in the playpen and only in his crate. he at first was putting himself in his crate for naps or staying there when we put himself in, but has recently been just sleeping in the playpen. we are trying to prioritize potty training so i figured this would help since he hasn’t gone potty in his crate yet and i would rather he never did, so proper crate training would come later when he is better at potty training.

Is he too young for this sort of training? Am i taking it too fast? Playpen goal is to help him understand that we can coexist without him getting something from us, so maybe awarding isn’t the right move? we do sometimes take him out of the playpen to play with us in the living room as well, is that contributing?
