I got Simpsons Bowling fully working on MiSTer! We have a start to a Konami GV core!

Here is the repo. If you want to test it out, you need to supply your own game files and build the core yourself using Quartus the first release on the release page now has a prebuilt core included along with hashes that are verified working in freeplay mode. https://github.com/t-dollaz/KonamiGV_MiSTer

My only goal with this project was to get Simpsons Bowling working, so it may not be wired correctly to be utilized as a general GV core yet, but it's a step in the right direction!

This core is built on top of the official PSX MiSTer core and expanded with the help of the Duckstation build that Arcade1Up developed specifically for their Simpsons arcade machine. Thus, the build currently only works in freeplay, and enabling service mode in the OSD is likely to corrupt your EEPROM, so please make a backup before you go fiddling with service mode in the OSD.

On my Github I also have a fork of A1Up's Duckstation that will build on platforms other than Android. I have successfully played the game on MacOS Tahoe and Windows 11.

Here's a gameplay video recorded from my MiSTer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BaX-Ybj4Ij8

This playthrough shows the game freezing after I input my initials on the high score screen for reasons I outline in the video description. The version currently on the repo is locked to freeplay only and will fully complete a playthrough as long as you don't corrupt your EEPROM by activating the service menu in the OSD.

A1U's fork of DuckStation for Simpsons Bowling is no longer tied to Android!

Here's a demo video of Spares Mode with some Marge voice clips running on MacOS Tahoe.

My fork takes the standard analog controller input for the cabinet's buttons, and if a mouse is detected at all on the computer, it is automatically mapped as a trackball.

I have yet to build this on Windows or try it with a real trackball, so I'll be posting my fork soon so others can try it out!

Side note: I noticed in DuckStation the FPS counter says 30/60. Does this game ever run at 60fps on real hardware or A1U, or is it always locked to 30fps?

Attempting to modernize the Simpsons Bowling arcade1up fork. I am stuck on this file error. What does it mean?

I am using Claude to attempt to import the modifications Arcade1Up made in their fork over to Duckstation's modern architecture to get Simpsons Bowling to run in Duckstation on something other than an Android platform.

I am stuck on this "program loading... file error" and can't find anything online about it. I have tried using an ISO and CHD that both are confirmed to work in MAME, and then used MAME to make Simpsons Bowling generate the other necessary EEPROM files that the original fork omits. I confirmed that these files run as expected in MAME (i.e. no voice lines). I'm currently running a local Duckstation build on MacOS, and have re-tooled the hardcoded filepaths to just be additional fields in Duckstation's BIOS settings. I know that the filepath implementation is working because I needed to populate them to get passed 17N on this screen.

I am assuming this specific error has something to do with the ISO/CHD itself rather than any of the other components, but the CDR check was OK, so I am a bit stumped. To be clear, I have zero coding or emulation dev background. Just thought I'd mess around and see if I could make this happen, and it feels like I'm close!

Going to Evo in June, will there be fightstick / parts vendors?

I am super excited to be attending my first Evo this year to compete in Rivals of Aether 2! I use a gamepad for Rivals (Vader 5 Pro, incredibly good value), but I have also recently developed an interest in building or buying a custom arcade stick for playing arcade games via my MiSTer console.

I have been browsing places like Eternal Rival, Fightbox, etc for parts, but wanted to check with this community if it would make more sense for me to wait until Evo to buy things like a Brook fighting board/RP2040, buttons, and a lever. So a few questions:

Are these and other fightstick parts typically sold at Evo? If so, is it more cost-effective to buy them at Evo than buying them online? Even if this isn't the case for, say, a Brook board, can I find individual buttons for cheap?

Is it more common to see complete fightsticks for sale rather than individual parts?

Would it be easy for me to test a bunch of different brands of buttons and levers (Sanwa, Qanba, Semitsu, different lever shapes) and know which ones are what brands in order to figure out what my preferences are? Maybe another way to phrase this is, do vendors typically advertise what brands of hardware they use in their sample fightsticks? I know there's a giant arcade room at Evo as well, so I'd also be curious if that area advertises certain brands.

If sticks are sold at Evo, do they ever include non-FGC components that are still useful for arcade games like trackballs and spinners?

Thanks in advance!
