Catching up - Michael Urie episode: Tig Comment

Just heard Tig say that most of the time, or a lot of the time, children with disabilities “fall into the perfect families.”

As someone in social work who’s worked with individuals with various disabilities for 20 years…imma have to push back a little. LOL.

Hi fellow Canadian moms! I was visiting family in a suburb of Toronto and my 2.5 year old was playing in the backyard. A day later I found a tick embedded in my child’s ribcage area. FROM THE BACKYARD. I had no idea how long it had been in there because it hadn’t been bath day the day prior and I had left her undershirt on overnight 😭.

I advocated for a weight based prophylactic dose of doxycycline (new guidelines) which they were able to prescribe at the pharmacy. As it’s not available in a suspension I rolled the 1/4 pills in cheese to get my kid to eat them 😂.

Just wanted to remind you all to check daily for ticks no matter where your child has been - this was totally out of nowhere. I also wanted to let you know that they CAN prescribe prophylaxis for children under 8 years old at the pharmacy - you might just have to ask them to look up the new guidelines as I did.

Best of luck out there and wishing you all a tick free summer!!!
