IDOT appointment required?

I need to renew my license and the DOT building in Coralville doesn’t have an appointment open till mid September. Are appointments required? I remember just walking in and waiting like 20 minutes growing up.

Best sports bar

My criteria would be
- alot of big TVs playing all the games
- good drinks/beer
- good food
- bonus points if they play the audio of a big game.
- a crowd that is invested in the games.

Ewers men clothing store

I used Ewers for renting tuxes for my wedding and I just want to give that guy/store a shout out. He’s was awesome to work with and nailed our measurements as the tuxes fit perfectly. If you need formal mens clothes. Please check him out!

Good engineer

When did you start to feel like you were a good engineer?
4 years of experience(I know I’m young and got a lot to learn) and damn some days I feel like the worst engineer ever cuz I’ll miss something stupid or model something wrong.

Interviewing just for the offer

Been at the same firm for about 5 years and I enjoy it but feel like I’m probably underpaid. I think like the best way to get an increase would to get an offer from another firm. But to sit through an interview and know I don’t really have an intentions of taking this job seams fake and weird. Has anyone down this ? Any tips?
I also worry about the news of me interviewing getting back to my current company or the company I interview with seeing right through me and know what I’m doing.

Life in Norwalk

Anyone in this sub that lives in Norwalk and enjoys it?

Recently accepted a job in west Des Moines and am planning to buy a house in Norwalk and make the commute north. About to start a family and currently live in a suburb so very familiar with the suburban vibe.

Wages at smaller companies

How do wages at small companies compare to wages at bigger/medium size companies? I’m curious on how they can compete versus bigger companies and offer competitive wages.

PE Experience

I am an EIT and I worked for about a year before I had a serious medical issue where I went on long term disability for a year and then came back part time for about 2 months before joining back full time. When (if) I pass my PE exam will my time on disability count towards my 4 years of experience? Or will I likely need to work an additional year to make up for that?

Water clean up

Is the nitrate in our water problem something that can be fixed in a 4-year term of cracking down on farmers use of it? Or is this a decade(s) long clean up we’d be looking at?

Iowa voted for this

Can someone please share how this is possibly a good thing for the state of iowa? I don’t get why you would vote to shrink healthcare. I can only imagine that restricting healthcare is a bad thing.
