Project help!

I posted here a few weeks back about my project bike (Raleigh Medale, 63cm steel frame) that I've changed from a 5 gear bike, to a 7 speed (Shimano Megarange to help with the hills) - which required a Shimano Megarange deraullier...

My only issue now is, that ive had to install x2 deraullier hangers (1 on both sides) to ensure the deraullier is fitted (no deraullier hanger on the frame) but it means the wheel keeps pulling out when theres a lot of power on the bike (im a 120kg).

Any ideas;

- can I get anything welded to keep things in place, and should I?)

- is there anything out there that's a part that would solve my problem?

Any advice welcomed :)

Part due...compatibility q?

Following from a previous post about my project bike (Raleigh Medale steel frame 63cm) and trying to fix my gears...

Q1. Would a Shimano Megarange 7 speed rear derauliier, be compatible with a 7 speed suntour down tube shifter? Is that why i cant index the gears correctly?

Q2. Does the megarange have a B-limit screw (I cannot see/find one) so assume not...

Any help appreciated.

Probabaly just upload a video next time but not with bike at present. Here's a pic of the old girl (not with current spec as its an older photo).

Is this excessive wear?

Bought a brand new (running shop bought + recommended) pair of HOKA Gaviota 5, they felt great in the shop and really comfortable so paid & bought them.

2x 5km runs in (on good road surface) and they felt great/comfy - however, they are showing what I would describe as quite excessive wear for a grand total of 10km of running with no use on bad/rough surface and no falls etc.

Would you take them back for a change/refund?

Stuck...please help (a project/fixing problem)

I have a very nice and enjoyable 63cm 1974 Raleigh Medale steel frame road bike - I beleive its a touring style bike. Its amazing. However, it was designed to run as either 1) a single speed fixie or 2) a specific set up.

The bike was a bit of a project (I damged it, so just thought id use that as an opportunity to make it into something more usable) and so did a bit of work to make it into a more usable road bike. I.e. added different rear cassette, kept the x3 chain rink at rhe front, and changed from the old 28 1/2 tyres to 700c (im just adding this for context of the bike set up really).

It ran fine until I tore my rear deraullier hanger off - as the wheel sometimes slipped out due to tension (so ive upgraded to halo hex skewers to help (as beleive the get better torque?! But this issue often impacted the stability of the gears obviously (if slipping).

Given the above, firstly the rear derauliier requires an extension hanger to actually be fiited (theres no bolt hole for a deraullier). The rear cassette is running on 11-34 (the climbing gear is just a larger gear (I think this is it Example) . So i have a 7 speed cassette at the back, and the x3 chain ring at the front, on a 63cm frame.

My issue now, is that whilst ive fitted new deraullier (Shimano Tourney) and bought and fitted a new 8s shimano chain, the jockey wheel is rubbing on the highest gear slightly enough to cause shifting issues, and the B-limit screw isnt doing anything to be honest. Ive tried everything (cable tension, shortening the chain, checking rhe deraullier is sat properly...)

So, am I roght in thinking;

A) my deraullier is too short? And need a longer cage arm? (A wolf-tooth link isnt an option because of my frame)

B) my chain is too short

Or am i totally daft and just missing something obvious?!

Any advice welcomed (P.S. this subreddit is a godsend normally 🤘).
