If I have just internship audit credits this fall semester, can I get GT health insurance?

For this fall semester, I am only taking 12 audit credits because I am in an internship for the fall and won’t take any classes for any billable credit hours. Am I still eligible for the GT voluntary student health insurance plan? I am out of state student, and I have already enrolled in the internship class for the 12 audit credits. Because I am out of state, this health insurance will be my only health insurance in Georgia, so this is pretty important for me to figure out how to get health insurance.

Moving into Uhouse Midtown Battle Guide

Heard the horror stories. Just moved in to the mid-upper floors and haven’t seen a cockroach in the dorm yet. Though hearing your stories, I am not optimistic that I got lucky even though I am residing above the 8th floor. What are some anti cockroach strategies that worked for you at Uhouse?

How helpful is the CS degree research option for publishing a paper?

Obviously, I know the research option doesn’t guarantee a paper, and you need to still need to do the additional work to actually be able to publish. But for those who did the research option and published (in ml, robotics, or other CS research areas), how helpful was the research option and its classes in getting undergrads to successfully publish. Also, how useful UROP different from the research option?

Why is the Northern accent the accent I hear most often in Chinese media?

Why is it so rare to hear the Southern accent in Chinese media? I heard the Southern Chinese accent is much closer to Taiwanese accent, but I have yet to hear Chinese speakers in Chinese media without the erhua sound. Is there a reason for this?

What path would you recommend for a CS major that wants to get into robotics field?

  1. Pick devices thread and intel thread for CS and just get masters and even PhD in robotics

  2. Pick devices thread and intel thread for CS + robotics minor and get masters and even PhD in robotics

  3. Switch to MechE and get masters and even PhD in robotics

I still want to work on software stuff in robotics, especially like simulations and ml and computer vision stuff, but I also want to also gain some hardware knowledge to get pair with software knowledge. I’m heading into 2nd year of CS and also joined a robotics lab if that is relevant here. Which option would be the most straightforward to get into robotics field like if I want to work at Boston dynamics.

How do I get into robotics field as a CS undergrad?

Currently, I just finished my first year of CS at Georgia Tech, and have started doing robotics (ROS, C++, Robot simulation, and possibly some ML) research under a lab. I want to get into the robotics industry and get a masters and possibly even a PhD in robotics. Is it possible for a CS major to get into robotics field and what should my next steps be to tailor my degree for robotics industry and make myself more competitive down the road for robotics masters and PhD? (Edit: I also have an upcoming swe internship at a small to midsize software company if that is relevant in anyway)

Some random homeless looking guy in NYC just spat at my face.

Some rando just spat toward my face while I was minding my business in NYC. Never experienced this before, so I never even expected it. I didn’t even register he had spat at my face until he had already walked away fuck (I was like what are these droplets landing on my face and why is that rando spouting nonsense). I really hope some random disease doesn’t enter my eye because that was one filthy person. I do wonder if the recent court case dramas is fueling this, or that guy just hates everyone of every race equally. That dimwit could have atleast committed that hate crime before I became a college student so I can write a fire sob story for college applications. Would have been the most that parasite ever contributed to the world. Have you guys experienced an increase in this type of behavior recently?

What are you SWE interns doing now?

Because AI is good for writing boilerplate code / repetitive code, what do you SWE interns do now? Or are you still tasked with writing boilerplate code?

I know startups are variable and some are shitty, but for people in decent startups, how was the pay bump?

What do you guys see for the future of CS?

I finished my first year as a CS major at a target school with a paid SWE internship lined up, but I’m wondering if it is worth it to stay in CS or if I should double major or just switch my field of study to something else like electrical engineering. Because I’m just not sure about the future of CS and especially SWE with all these conflicting opinions on CS subreddits.

Do you need to practice a lot of HackerRank on top of Leetcode?

I’ve been doing NeetCode and Leetcode, and I feel like I am getting the hang of the it. But I also do remember completely failing Hackerrank OA before as it felt different from Leetcode style questions. In your experiences, did you also need to put a lot of time into practing hackerrank to get the hang of it after mastering leetcode?

Are software engineers not high liability professionals?

Like I hear people talk about jobs like nuclear engineers, aerospace engineers building airplanes or doctors being high liability professions where if they mess up, they can get sued / just cause a lot of damage, but is this really not the case for SWE?

Is it pretty funny to see this huge divide on this sub

Like you will see posts of people asking which internship offers to accept, how to get better resumes, etc, and you scroll down and see people asking why people still go into CS even though it is doomed. This sub is pretty crazy

Is a top MBA the best/most efficient way to pivot into investment banking career as an engineer?

As an engineer with a couple years of experience trying to pivot, would a top MBA and an IB internship during the MBA be the best course of action to pivot? Is it impossible otherwise, especially if I went to a school that is really well known for engineering but not really a target for investment banking
