Bootleg potential?
I’m getting back into buying physical media and was picking up some various seasons of shows that I may want. I usually look at DVDsreleasedates.com to see if there at least is a physical release that looks like that. But since I have been looking at eBay to cut costs, it’s all online and can’t very well hold the package in my hand. And since they may be sealed anyway that would only help a little.
One concern is they usually use a stock photo over a typical seller having an item listed. The seller may have dozens of this particular show, so I can understand maybe using a stock photo instead. But still raises a red flag.
Next is price in general. Some of these are significantly cheaper than say Walmart or Amazon for the same product. For instance Walking Dead complete series is $100 or so at Walmart, but can find it for $57 on eBay. Same appearance of the large multipack edition. Or I can find some listings for individual seasons 1-11 all together, but it is still a stock photo of them lined up next to each other. It makes me question if either of them are legit.
Anything else I should be looking for or just assume they are all fake since it’s on eBay for a good price.
I just don’t see how making bootlegs of individual seasons can be that profitable.
Age old question - which tv for me?
I am now getting back into physical media and thought maybe I should upgrade things. I wrote this since every situation/layout/usage is unique, so I ask if you professionals can guide me.
Current set up - 2011 Samsung 46C5000…this was bought in 2011 as a house warming gift to myself.
I’ve had zero problems with it. I love it, but figured newer tech will be better. I figure I’ll move this tv to the basement and get a better tv for the living room.
When measuring the room, it suggests 65” is better for the space.
Obviously reading on here and online everyone shouts OLED Sony Bravia 7 or 9 or LG whatever…I will not likely be spending that much on a new tv if I can help it.
Walking through Walmart recently seeing all of these TVs in the aisle on sale made me wonder if any of them would be good enough.
I’m not looking for the best and I want to be smart with my budget. Anything would be an upgrade to what I have, right?
It’s possible I won’t even notice some of these drawbacks people keep touting.
The room is moderately sunny since it has two walls of windows BUT they are always curtained when viewing anything so it doesn’t get that bright in the room.
Most tv usage was streaming and casual gaming. But now wanting to get into more movie viewing again. But if anything the tv might be on for a few hours at a time and some days never gets turned on.
So I’m looking at good enough/improvement to current situation without breaking the bank.
The stuff on sale at Walmart is around $328 QLED, but those might be 55” which is what I was going to get since still bigger than what I have but online keeps saying 65 is better so I’m looking at 65” now.
Looking online the 65” LG OLED C5 can be had for $1400, which is definitely more than I want to spend right now since I’d likely have to buy a new wall mount, plus external sound system maybe? Plus tax and shipping. But if I had to I suppose I can lean towards it.
So something in the middle could be good. A few things have mentioned TCL can be decent. Everyone says to stay away from Samsung which was my initial plan to continue with since I’ve had this other one for so long.
What to look out for in “catfishing”
I have been single for over a year now. I’m not ready to get back out there yet, but I know when I am ready I’ll have to go the online route. I’m not extroverted and active enough to meet someone out doing activities.
With that said, one thing keeping me back is the threat of being roped into something I am wasn’t suspecting.
I know it’s not the literal definition of catfishing, but any sort of trickery will 100% work on me. I’m oblivious enough I won’t catch the red flags early on.
What are things I should look out for when trying to get to know someone?
Pictures of different ages/angles, I understand. But what else?
Signature
First time passport holder here. I know where to sign, but I’ve read conflicting posts/websites on how to sign it.
It says to “sign“ it, but also says to make it legible and match your name on the identification page.
But then that means it is writing my name legibly and not signing it. My signature barely resembles my name since it is scribbled together.
So am I supposed to write my full name to match the ID page, or am I supposed to sign my name how I sign other things like checks/contracts/etc.?
Thanks!
Learning for eye exam
I am an optometrist. I have a fairly large Viet patient base. I’ve been trying to learn intermittently on Duo. Currently a level 10. I know I will never be fluent, but was trying to learn enough to get through an exam without having to consult an interpreter. Difficult, I know.
Any tips? Obviously better places to learn than Duo, but timing wise it works for my schedule.
I could just go to Google translate and memorize random sentences that I may ask in the exam, but that doesn’t allow me to fully understand what’s being told to me.
And it likely is a fruitless goal because I have a hard time catching some of the tones. I do have a Vietnamese coworker, but she is leaving this summer for grad school. She said some of the stuff sounded ok when I have spoken it to her. Clearly need to work on my accent.
