This is my personal ranking of the ai ive tried as an ex chai user. This is mostly just based off personal experience with little to no explanation. Ive played so many ais, this isnt all the ones ive tried because i only decided to start the list later on, but here;

Great [ones i found myself playing over and over for long periods];
- Perchance (have to manually save chats onto your drive)
- Clank world (i dont even know why we like this one its kind of crap but i play it alot)

Good:
- Emochii
- Tipsy (greedy but by-passable, almost great)
- Chatgpt/Claude (mid level greed, bland but broad)
- Xoul (limited play time for free users)
- Polybuzz (greed 9000)

Ok:
- Waifu dungeon (sus AF website 💀… but okay. løli and īncest warning)
- Janitor ai
- Soulplay
- Chub ai (pretty much must pay, with crypto currency, barely played but seems good)
- Swerve (trash memory, gets nonsensical)
- Zeta ai (meh- but the visual novels are a blast! But the app is going downhill atm)
- Seasoul (started out rlly good… but chats get meh more you play)
- C.ai (pretty greedy, nowhere near the quality it used to be)

Meh:
-Sakura
- Minglotalk
- Kindroid
- Talkie lab (some cool functions)
- Candy
- Backyard ai

Bad:
- Hammer ai
- Dungeon.ai
- Dopple.ai

Sorry if there was one you liked thats lower than youd rate, this is just personal opinion. Hope someone finds this helpful- happy hunting!

Im so sick of this line. Its really repetitive. Im getting responses where theres like two of these in every paragraph.

Does anyone know away to stop it? Maybe a prompt?

I didnt like zeta. Its long responses werent it and i wasnt into the whole introducing characters thing. But they have their new zeta labs thing and its actually a blast??

Its not really a chai alternative but its making me fall inlove with ai again. Its really cool because the zeta output works waaay better as a visual novel.

Basically you just have to watch ads which arnt at intervals that are too annoying. The background will generate if you specify the scene. And knew characters will generate avatars. Its all very cool, not perfect yet but it really feels like a visual novel.

My one and only gripe is zeta out put is can be very therapized. Like it agrees with you too much. I think you could probably work around it tho.

I havnt played in so long. The chatting got so butts i cant imagine anyone having fun on it still.

But are people still playing? Still enjoying it? If you are i really wanna hear your experience right now because im curious if its gotten a bit better since three months ago or what?

Ive been trying everything. Nothing has filled the chai hole in my heart.

I’ve tried janitor multiple times. Ive heard some really good things from chai users so i wanted to love it. And to be honest? It doesn’t itch. The responses a long and novel-y, not the casual/realistic roleplay that chai had. It sucks because i see why people love it, so i would recommend it to people.

Also making quick characters and senarios isnt a thing. its hard to make a good character, if you want to make a good bot you have to put in the effort. But people on the platform like to make stories that frankly arnt to my personal taste. Lots of cuck fantasy, cheating, and enemies to lovers- its hard to sift through it all and find something i jam with.

If you havnt tried it, this is a must try. But its no chai replacement.

Theres also so much customization that i wonder if im not having luck because i need to play around with it more.

I feel like alot of people are sleeping on perchance because it doesn’t save chats. I use it on my phone, export everything to my drive. Then when i want to play again i import it all from my most recent in drives. I haven’t had any issues. It saves all your characters and all your chats.

Very customizable. No filter. Very fun. Memory is meh but its really smart anyway so it doesn’t matter. The one problem i have is its got that omnipotent problem so it can be annoying to guide the chat. And you cant exactly share bots.

But its completely free and worth a good shot.

Creativity
I want an ai that can understand many ideas and know how to twist them. I dont want to baby sit an ai, i want the chat to take my hand and show me whats around the corner.

Comprehension
What was great about Chai is it did not need powerful memory. You could subtly remind it things through roleplay and it would fill in the gaps. Comprehension is hard because technically ai comprehends nothing, it only predicts the response.

Realism
Chai was sometimes messy. It did not always agree with you and the conversations felt very natural. Dialogue was very grounded and not so glossy or ‘novel-y’ as some other ais.

Briefness
The option to have short outputs. This one was chais strong suit. It understood how to put together a cohesive and interactive response in 100 characters or less. Alot of ais will just cut off or have very lame responses. Other ais, given the leg room, will just drone on anyway and output something that could be much shorter.

Freedom
The freedom to talk about what you want. Pretty simple. I want to sometimes role play violence or dark topics.

Affordability
I’ll admit before i was paying for the premium of chai before it became unplayable. Now id rather not pay these companies, its all too expensive. So id rather a free service. Or atleast something not ridiculous like 40 dollars A WEEK.

Accessibility
Id rather something i can access on my phone. Not everyone has a computer. And not everyone has a nice enough computer to download their own ai. I do, and it’s something I’ve been messing with but id rather have something accessible. So preferably an app. And if on a site, available in all countries preferably.

E-rp
Lets just be real. We want atleast the ability to erp, even if youre not into it, the roadblock is too annoying. And the erp should be good. What i liked about chai is that it fundamentally understood consent, and you could rp practically anything. For example clank world has erp. But the bots are way too horny and the nsfw stuff is dog shit.

Disagree? Anything you think i missed. I really dont think chai users care that much about memory, weve been trained lol.

This whole sub is just complaining but i want to share different ai platforms. No affiliates trying to sell you crap!! Just Genuine recs for chai users. Ive been trying so many and i want to talk about them.

Or if maybe this sub could adjust the rules. Because at this point- is anyone actually playing chai?

Anyone notice that the bots are now always acting tsundere? Like literally it could be like some ‘obsessed’ type character who’s a spouse and they’ll hesitate and refuse to keep going forward. Just creating fake drama. And erp has gotten shit for this, theyre acting so ooc

For a second. Forget the greed. Removing advanced. Changing the app constantly…

Responses are SO CRAP NOW. The ai refuses to move the story forward and you have to guide it. Every bot now feels the same and says the same things.

Its gotten so bad that literally all those alternatives I tried when they first removed advanced that were ‘ok’, are much better in comparison now because current chai is that crap!

The thing is, look at the history of ai chat platforms. When the quality of the ai goes down, there is no resurgence. Think of replica, character ai, dungeon ai…
Once theyve fucked it theyve fucked it. So as much as I mourn good chai era- it is gone. Just have to wait for something better to come along.

Does anyone get annoyed by this phrase? Its not just a chai thing.

But it will be like an emotional high. And the bot will always say “now youre stuck with me. No take backs”

The memory is actually pretty good, but honestly for the price its fine staying premium or free. Just having the skill to mention things and keeping things on track.

The ultra messages are as long as possible, which gets annoying tbh. and the characters are still fucking tapping everything. The quality is slightly noticeably but not that different. After this week i go back to premium.

Sick of your chatbots constantly TAPPING your nose? Or any other things within their grubby reach. Introducing PEN. Give the a fucking pen?? Theyll go NUTS. Tap tap TAP!

I know chai is down the shitter. But is anyone getting this excessive tapping of noses and other things. Its so weird and doesn’t ever make sense. Literally all characters are doing it.
