Neither use the scientific method or gather information with the possibility that their presuppositions might be wrong, but they do this completely different.
What Evangelicals do is cherry-pick information in such a way that they cling to what reinforces their pre-existing ideas and then disregard all evidence to the contrary. This creates a grand conspiracy where the world is under the influence of Satan, which causes the whole world to believe in the parts of science that specifically refute Christianity (e.g. evolution), simply because they refute Christianity, not because they are intellectually more plausible scientifically.
What Mormons do is completely different, but it produces the same result. Mormons have the idea of testimony, where something can be determined to be true based upon your emotional response to it. This allows them to disregard evidence to the contrary if it doesn't produce warm fuzzies.
Evangelicals and Mormons both live in epistemological bubbles, but they're constricted differently. The Evangelical bubble is constructed of information that aligns only with their worldview, and the Mormon bubble is constructed of information that produces happy and comforting vibes.
I say this as a former Evangelical (but still Christian) and as someone who has studied the LDS for over 20 years. The idea of testimony as presented by the church is quite unique, and it can create an inability for Evangelicals and Mormons to understand each other on a fundamental level because they have such fundamentally different perceptions of knowledge, how it's gathered, and it's results. Thanks for your time.
It's the pet project I'm starting
Serious question. There's a real concern that the format becomes too expensive rsther quickly. Does the community just refuse to accept the pressure that WotC applies to the community if they come heavy handed on gold borders and proxies?
I've played since Fallen Empires and a friend even gifted me a box of Ice Age back in the day. I would dip in and out of the game over those years but Invasion block was a time when I was all in. That was when we got introduced to the shards and I fell in love with Mardu, which at that time was known as Dega. Hell, I even mained a domain deck, such fun times!
Urza's Saga was a time when I was out of the game for a bit. I've always been aware of the cards in that block but in hindsight, what the hell were they smoking when they designed that? Even the art in that block is on point, just a solid block overall.
Universes Beyond almost completely ruined mtg for me. I was starting to look into alternatives like Sorcey Contested Realm but then I found Premodern. Premodern restored my faith in the game.
