(28M) Did Chlamydia ruin my life?

I contracted chlamydia in Jan of 2022, when I was a 24 yr old male. I did not know I had it since I had no symptoms up until I had some slight pain on the left side of my scrotum and went to the ER in Nov. of 2022, when I tested positive for the STD. So I had it unknowingly for roughly 11 months. A couple weeks or so later that November, and after taking antibiotics for chlamydia, I notice my scrotum has a bag of worms sort of appearance and I have ED, but still with little pain as the infection cleared. I go to the ER again and got diagnosed with varicocele on my left side.

I haven’t gotten any STDs since then, but since I got cleared of chlamydia, what had started as a left side varicocele with slight pain has transformed over the last 3 years into bilateral varicoceles with chronic nerve type pain post surgery. I have had a microsurgical varicocelectomy and denervation on my right side along with varicocelectomy and embolization on my left side. I continue to have ED, and reduced orgasm sensation though those have improved a little bit a year after my surgery. The right side spermatic cord area became super painful about 16 or so months after the chlamydia infection cleared, so I am not sure if it is possibly related.

My life has changed ever since getting chlamydia and need to know if this condition I have is a result of the infection.

Thank you.

Getting off TRT during med school

My levels pre-TRT as a 26M were 347 ng/dl with free T in mid range around 110.

I was on TRT for 2.5 years on/off. My dose varied from 180 mg/week to 110 mg/week, 110/week is what I am running right now. Split into 3 injections per week.

I am coming off as a 28 M while I need to study for my exams because although my bloodwork is fine, my sleep is horrible and my E2 is above threshold. I am still dealing with improved chronic pain stemming from varicoceles which is why I got on TRT in the first place, but I am going to quit now to focus on getting good rest and recovery post surgery so that I can focus well on my exams and studying. I even developed a stutter from the poor sleep, I wake up after about 4-5 hours of nighttime rest consistently.

Prior to the varicoceles I was in the gym, looking and feeling good, and could focus for long hours on studying. I am really praying I can somehow get back to who I was 3-4 years ago before this mess begun.

Any advice, hope or concerns would be very much appreciated.

I quit.

This job is horrible. I genuinely would rather rot than to work for this godforsaken company. The expenses are too high, the earnings are way too low.

And for Christ sake, you’re not even paying into social security with this job! Good luck to all of you who are working this job full time for 5-10 years or longer — your retirement will be full of suffering if you don’t have ample savings to prepare for it. Which, given the horrid pay, I doubt is the case for most if not all drivers depending on this for their sole income.

Did anyone get varicoceles after contracting chlamydia (or another STI)?

Hi folks,

I noticed that my varicoceles developed at age 24-25 for me at the same time that I contracted and unknowingly had chlamydia for 11 months. I have been still dealing with chronic pain in my scrotum that has not gone away despite treating my bilateral varicoceles with 3 procedures (2 on left side (microsurgery and embolization), 1 on right (microsurgery and denervation). I got my left side microsurgery in Aug 2023 and then embolized in May 2025. Right side microsurgery and denervation was done back in July 2025.

I can't sleep, I can't study due to the pain. My entire life has turned upside down over the last 3 years that I have been dealing with this issue. I am 28 now.

I can't help but wonder if contracting the chlamydia 3-4 years ago and letting it go untreated for 11 months was the cause of all of this. I used to be healthy and vibrant, full of life and charisma. Now, I am just a miserable mess continuing to live with my parents and laying in bed. Erections and libido are still diminished. My doctor says I don't have epididimytis.

Did any of you notice the development of your varicoceles (or chronic scrotum pain) after contracting chlamydia or another STI?
