Is it a problem that my girlfriends kids don't interact with other kids?
I might be overreacting, and I probably shouldn't meddle, but...
It recently came to my attention that my girlfriends kids (eleven-year-old twins) don't have friends (except for each other) and avoid other kids. She said that she doesn't think they need other friends, as they are very close with each other and with her. She also said that they tried to make friends, when they were younger, and it went poorly so they gave up.
Apparently some of the other kids would laugh when the daughter used sign language (she can hear fine, but she's physically mute), and this would piss her brother off. Some of the other girls would tease her about being dependent on a boy (just because her brother would tell the other kids what she signed).
Is there anything that can be done about this, or is it really not that big a deal?
Note: The kids are homeschooled.
