Reddit videographer cancelled without even telling us

My partner and I answered one of those free videography posts on Reddit months ago, and booked a guy looking to expand his portfolio to film our wedding. We were about to book a paid professional at the time, but this guy was a TV cameraman and his reel looked amazing, so we thought we had nothing to lose. We had a very friendly Zoom where we discussed every detail, including my fear that he might drop out on us. He swore he wouldn't.

Well. Three weeks till the wedding, I reach out and guess what? He's booked a paid gig over our wedding date, and didn't even tell us he was doing it. Now he's ghosted us. Technically I know we had a verbal contract, but short of actually taking him to small claims there's not really anything we can do here.

We're in the whirlwind stage of realising everything else we have to do before the wedding date (September 5th) and I don't know how to begin replacing him. I presume everyone good is probably booked up already, and anyway we've already used the videography budget in other areas.

If anyone knows of a good (ideally cheap) videographer close-ish to Wiltshire I'd be really grateful.

Otherwise, let me just be a warning to other Reddit brides - don't trust a free supplier unless you can 100% do without the service. I wish I'd been less optimistic!

Apparently the heat waves have ruined the flowers for my wedding - anyone else had this?

Months ago I arranged to buy about £300-worth of flowers for my September wedding from a local flower farm. But apparently the heatwave has decimated their stocks and they mainly have foliage available. They've offered to order some from overseas but the cost will be much higher (even higher than ordering from overseas usually is, they say, as the demand has risen and stocks are low).

I don't blame them, obviously, but kind of reeling as I'm not sure what I can do to salvage this. Blow way over budget? Decorate the tables with leaves instead? Fiancé loathes plastic so that's not an option, but maybe dried flowers would be ok?

Has this happened to anyone else? What do you plan to do about it?

With or without cape for my registry?

Please don't judge it on the facial expressions! I'm actually leaning towards with, but have had mixed reviews from friends and family and am worried it might be 'too much'. I love the romance of it in the abstract, but quite worried about feeling silly when I actually get there.

The registry ceremony room (pic 3) is a nice but not overly ornate room in a period building, and we'll have about 12 guests. Other accessories are pearl earrings, a small antique pendant and embellished bridal flats on. Either way, I'll be without the cape for drinks and lunch.

Thanks so much for your advice, guys!

Spotted on Vinted while wedding dress shopping

Wonder how the bride felt about this "mother of the groom dress"...

Edit: it's been pointed out that this kind of dress is actually very normal in the Traveller community, so it may be that this woman's daughter-in-law was totally fine with the outfit. If so, apologies to both of them. Leaving the post up so that other people can learn from it like I did.

Loud freezer fan is baffling me

The fan in the freezer compartment of my fridge freezer is making a loud buzzing noise. I opened it up and took off the propeller and the buzzing almost disappeared. As soon as I put the blades back on and started it going again, the noise returned.

But there's no ice on them, I've cleaned them and made sure they were securely attached, so I just can't see why they'd be making this noise. Could anyone advise what I should try next, please?

Wedding photography

I've seen a few posts on r/UKweddings of photographers looking to transition into wedding photography and asking to shoot London weddings for free. I'm just wondering if there's anyone in Cardiff looking to do the same?

My partner and I are doing our registry office ceremony at Insole Court in July. It's a gorgeous building, and I may be biased but I think my partner's smokin' too, so there's definitely some good portfolio material to be had! Or good diversification material if you want to get some cute queers in there...

Sorry if this seems cheap - we're paying full rates for a photographer for the big wedding party later in the year, and there's just nothing left in the budget for the legal ceremony. If anyone's interested, drop me a comment and I'll send more details. Thanks so much!
