Chart of Accounts for Nonprofits

Hey all! Bookkeeper here, usually for for-profit clients. I walked into a business membership exchange to become a member and (hopefully) tap their large membership base for more clients. Well, turns out they were desperate for a new bookkeeper themselves and I decided to take them on as a client.

Things are unsurprisingly messy but I can handle it. My biggest obstacles are that credit memos were used incorrectly to track scholarships (for trades school) which masks true Receivables, and the Chart of Accounts is severely bloated.

I use job costing/cost accounting with my other clients, leveraging products/services in order to keep a lean chart of accounts. Is there a way to streamline this nonprofit’s chart of accounts by leveraging products/services and classes for expenses and funds? Yes they have both restricted and unrestricted funds that are managed. The client is in QBO for accounting software.

Appreciate any insight!

AP/AR handling for construction clients

How are you guys handling the actual workflow of AP & AR for construction clients?

Are you having them scan every invoice and bill to you/relying on bank feeds to see deposited checks?

Are you having bills/checks mailed to a POBox that you manage for them?

What’s the best and most efficient practice for this type of client?

Post-Explant of Stainless Steel Plates (Radius & Ulna)

Hey all! I’m about 48 hours post-op from explanation and let me say it was 100% worth it.

My story:

Sep 29, 2025: Fell and broke my Right Radius & Ulna mid-shaft each, open fracture on ulna that I self-reduced while adrenaline was masking the pain.

Oct 7, 2025: ORIF to install 2 stainless steel plates and 11 screws total. No complications.

Oct 22, 2025: post-op follow-up, surgical dressing removed, wrist brace applied. Non-weight bearing orders (0 lbs).

Oct 23, 2025: started physical therapy 3x per week for 6 weeks.

Nov 19, 2025: orthopedic follow-up, cleared to run on flat ground, light-weight bearing restriction (5 lbs)

Jan 7, 2026: orthopedic follow-up, cleared to resume normal activities as tolerated.

Jan 21, 2026: started doing weighted yoga classes (with modifications because I was so weak) 3x per week.

Jun 29, 2026: consult with orthopedic surgeon to see if I could get hardware removed, had consistent wrist pain during everyday activities, and dull aching pain in colder weather (took a trip to the coast in early June and learned this). He said yep, I got scheduled.

Jul 21, 2026: hardware removal surgery! Immediate relief from wrist pain and stiffness. Did not receive nerve block, only general anesthesia and local anesthetic. Have not needed to take post op pain meds (Percocet 5’s). Icing and elevating has provided enough relief.

I can post updates and answer questions, so ask away.

Networking or Cold Calling for Contractor Clients?

What are your most successful methods for acquiring contractor/construction clients? I’ve tried cold calling and networking. Networking seems to yield the best leads so far.

Do you guys have input or insights with acquiring this particular clientele? Anything would be helpful, I’m mostly seeking where and how to concentrate my efforts so I’m not wasting time on methods that don’t work well with this group.

Longer-Term Watering Suggestions Please

We are leaving on a week long road trip at the end of the month. We have people to check on our chickens, but would like to lessen the burden on those people.

What is an effective longer-term watering setup you guys use to hydrate your chickens? Preferably one that doesn’t need refilling every other day.

We have 6 rhode island red hens. It’ll be in the 90°F range while we are gone.

Transitioning from day trading to swing trading. I'm struggling to understand how one particular industry's strength can spell increased potential for other related industries.

For example, data center stocks impacting nuclear stocks.

Do you guys have any tips, resources, or methods you've used to develop a better understanding on this aspect of swing trading the markets?

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

UPDATE:

I found a good method to help with this in case there are other traders experiencing this challenge:

First, I ask ChatGPT to explain how an industry's value chain. Next, I copy the resulting text into NotebookLM to generate an infographic to complement the text.

I'm sure you could use these to build larger infographics to show entire value chains across multiple industries, I'm just not there yet.

Hope this helps!
