My wife took me on an out of town thrift route for our 4th anniversary!

It has unfortunately been a very weird day. We had a lot of plans lined up, but when we dropped our cat off at the vet this morning due to refusal to eat for days, we learned she had cancerous masses growing in her chest and flooding it with fluids. We had to throw out out hike and movie plans, but my wife still insisted we run the thrift store route she'd come up with.

It's been nice to have the hunt keeping my mind off of things, and im super stoked with my finds, but now we're here killing time before heading back to be with her in her final moments. Idk, sorry for trauma dumping in the DVDcollecting sub. I love my wife. Gonna miss Karma.

[AMA ANNOUNCEMENT!] Daniel Dockery, Author of "I Am The Night" will be stopping by September 3rd

We're doubling up with r/DCAU for a 2 day-early celebration for Batman: The Animated Series' 34th Anniversary! Daniel Dockery, author of the upcoming book "I Am The Night" will be stopping by to answer any questions you have for him about the book, the show, the writing process, etc!

"I Am The Night" will be available to purchase September 1st, but you can pre-order a copy through your favorite big box store here, or (even better) by asking the clerk at your local book store!

Synopsis:

At a time when televised cartoons—especially within the superhero genre—were often over-looked, Batman: The Animated Series introduced an entire generation of soon-to-be Batman fanatics to the caped crusader. The series triumphed into what is largely considered one of the best superhero cartoons of all time, and the best depiction of Batman mythology in any format.

But the road to genre-defying and genre-defining success was hardly guaranteed. Along the way, co-creator Bruce Timm and his team of artists at Warner Bros Animation battled a landscape that was often antithetical to their aims with Batman. Internal struggles led the writing team and the network to debate everything (literally everything) about how best to depict Batman—from whether or not the eco-friendly hero would have a recycling bin in the Batcave to how many women he was allowed to kiss onscreen.

In I Am the Night, Daniel Dockery lovingly deep dives into Batman: The Animated Series and the cartoon renaissance it inspired, becoming the definitive primary source for new and old fans of the series alike. Including exclusive interviews with the team behind the cartoon and many never-before-shared insights about the series, I Am the Night will surprise even the staunchest of Batman enthusiasts and capture what made people first fall in love with the series. As many ups and downs as the DC Cinematic Universe may have, Batman is eternal–and so is Batman: The Animated Series.

Played "Live at Orensanz" on the work speaker the other night. Got a request from a coworker for me to make her copies of whatever TBS records I have complete with lore write ups.

Figures, "fuck it, I'll oblige". Giving her 9 pages of formation to the '02 Brand New tour complete with photos as well as copies of the vinyl version lyric sheet. Already had a decent amount of the work done from having done the beef timeline post in here a year or two ago, but this was fun and I figure some of yall might be interested so [here's the Google doc](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1PeNBcSIEscDeR2Oos4lg0lHb3BkexfpTf1MRI41agio/edit?usp=drivesdk). It's formatted for desktop rather than mobile so hopefully the photos stay in the right place across versions.

Bought a new shelf. Still not enough space for everything!

Some of you may have seen me posting pickups in here over the last year or so. Basically, after getting annoyed with streamers and paying endless money to own nothing after a decade or so of use, I decided to cut the chord and start doing the thrift runs to build up my personal collection. I ended up building out a spreadsheet with franchise checklists, directorial filmographies, studio collections, etc based off of what i already owned as a means to give myself parameters to work within that would push things towards looking like a focused collection when all was said and done.

Obviously, as is the way with collecting, I started jumping outside of those parameters. Picking up stuff my wife liked but wasnt on my radar, those few releases that were "oooooh, i REALLY wanted to see that when it came out!" and stayed that way over time, offbeat things that'd seem interesting, etc. And as a result, things grew a little quicker than anticipated!

My Atlantic: Oskar media shelf expanded to two extra smaller dvd shelves on either side of it, and after those quickly filled, stuff there was no room for got tossed in an egg crate I had laying around. And then that overflowed and there were stacks and stacks of discs sitting on top of one of my comic boxes.

So, last month, I told myself "next month is your birthday, dont buy more discs, go big and buy the biggest shelf you can! In comes the Venture Horizon Revolving Media Tower!

Even though it doesnt hold ALL of my discs (overflow in pic 5), so far im pretty happy with it. I got the Oak model, and it looks a lot nicer than the black of my previous shelf, and absolutely has higher storage capacity. So I see it as a win with room to grow. Over time as I fill out those more focused collections more, I think it'll have a really nice look to it, and if space becomes too much an issue, I've honestly been thinking about converting some into their own makeshift boxsets with custom art (outside of where I can eventually upgrade to more HD formats).

So far, my biggest complaint is that the left side of each shelf lips over the actual shelving, obscuring most if not all of a single DVD/Blu-Ray. Ultimately, I think thats something that could be addressed by making those box sets as they'd be thicker than one individual case, and either way isnt enough for me to say there's any regret to the purchase. Just figure it's worth noting for the sake of review!

Accidentally thrifted the entirety of breaking bad for $5.50 over the past month.

Showed up at a yardage a month ago where they had 3 seasons for 50 cents a piece, and found the final 2 on separate thrift trips for $2/ea. Now really hoping Better Call Saul just falls in my lap similarly. Fingers crossed! 🤞

Welcome home Superman Adventures Compendium vol. 2!

And now to wait for the "Gotham Adventures Omnibus" as I sit here and tell myself I dont need to buy the Earth-12 Compendium....

God, here's hoping Adventures vol. 2 is finally on its way to a re-publishing. These digest collections are NOT the respect that run deserves!

Reorganized the house yesterday to make space for things. Finally have new pickups filed away and full access to my CD cabinet!

My pickup post the other day seemed pretty split on what I choose to collect, so I'm interested to see how this goes over, lol.

Sorting is: artists i have more than one disc for in alphabetical order (by main project, if there are side projects, first name of artist if solo.... i know, I know), then artists with only one disc loosely by "genre", alphabetically within genre. "Emo"/"punk", Metal, grunge/post-grunge, pop rock, indie rock, pop, classic, radio comps, game soundtracks.

Transgender Green Lantern is REAL!!! (Green Lantern Dark #7, 2025)

I was searching around online today to make sure my list of genderqueer characters at DC was up to date, and I came across a few from the past year or so that I'd missed! Didn't see any fanfare when this came out, presumably because she's an unnamed side character, but it's so cool to see an official trans member of the Lantern Corps! There's been some gender swap stories over the years with Guy Gardner and Hal Jordan, but now we have the real deal!!

Stopped by the pawn shop while on my errands today and hit some major scores!

So excited for this one! Ive got a solid slasher collection, but the Halloween series has been one of the harder classics for me to come across in the wild. This knocks 2 more of those off the list and brings me up to 5 of the 13. The Fog and Mr. Jones both look like they'll be fun watches, admittedly ive seen neither. Mr. J specifically got picked up due to it being from Anchor Bay. I love grabbing music discs, especially anything that's close to the 2000s emo/pop-punk boom, so The Ataris and The Nail are big gets for me personally! Fuel TV is Hella nostalgic.

And I guess The Killing Joke is here. I know its got quite the reputation, and in fact that reputation has led me on a rabbit hole over the past year or so throughout comics history that ive been turning into a draft for a docuseries. Ironically though, ive still yet to watch the film. Ive been anticipating having to pick it up eventually, so when I saw it on the rack still wrapped in cellophane I just had to.

I still dont think im at the point of the project where im ready to watch it (ive got a very large Watchmen tangent on my plate to try to work out right now before even thinking about it), but now I have it here to stare at me every time I go to the shelf, like its gonna ask me "hey, should you really be watching another movie? Get back to writing!"

My Brother: The Ocean - "Theif" (Live from Panhandle Panic Fest @ Mosey's in Panama City, FL)

Just got some video from a reunion set my band did last year and figured I'd share! Flew home a few days after this and ended up in the ER. Found out the guy who had kicked me in the torso earlier that day in the pit broke my ribs, so I was dealing with that behind the mic, but I don't think it impacted quality all too much.

Anybody else cry reading Galaxy: As the World Falls Down? Just me?

Really needed this scene of Superman doing his best after accidentally overstepping without thinking. Feel like its hard to get that in real life sometimes, and its incredible seeing this modeled in a healthy way.

Hit a couple Goodwill's in the big city today!

Took a trip up to Seattle with my wife for a friend's divorce party and had to hit some Goodwill's in the area for old time's sake. Think i end3d up with a pretty solid haul!

Im now at 2 of the 3 LOTR box sets by way of thrifting. Finding Xena Season 2 was so lucky since ive had season 1 for a little while now. Also really stoked to have that For Your Consideration version of Wakanda Forever. It's gonna be a nice lil unique piece of my larger Marvel collection!

The goodwill shelves were overflowing today!

There were a ton of discs with the same name sharpied onto them, so im guessing someone must have given up their collection recently. On top of the two large shelves they usually keep stocked with DVDs, any possible free space in the books section was just filled up.

Still a lot of the same stuff you'd see donated, but found some diamonds in the rough (and some rough with the diamonds! ...looking at you Jonah Hex!)
