Canopy Bed

I’ve been thinking of hanging a canopy over my bed but I have a few things holding me back.

  1. Will a canopy make the bed too hot?
  2. My room is very small, and I’m worried a canopy will fill up too much space visually

Let me know what you think and/or if you have suggestions on how to hang one!

Feeling uninspired about what to knit next

I’ve been knitting for most of my life and recently finished a project (adorable colourwork sweater for a kiddo) and have no itch cast something in particular on. I want to make a pair of socks for a friend and a hat for me for the winter, but no specific pattern or style is calling out to. I’m thinking I would like to learn a new skill, possibly intarsia, but again, I’m not feeling particularly motivated.

I love knitting cables, and am confident in colourwork. Any suggestions of new skills to learn or where to go next? Thanks!

What can I do to make this … less ugly

I’m spinning up a mystery braid from a friend. Unfortunately, I’m not loving it. The colours are in thick bands and I don’t feel that they fully jive. Is there a way to make it come together more?

The great e spinner debate

I’m having surgery soon where I won’t be able to lift my arms. I’m currently a drop spinner but have wanted a wheel for ages. I have considerable space constraints and my friend recommended an espinner. The electric eels seem like a good starting place but I really want something that will hold up and be reliable. Which espinner should I invest in? I’m in Canada if that makes a difference and my whole drop spindle set up is on paper towel tubes and shoe boxes so I don’t have any commitments to specific bobbins or winding systems yet.

Fellow analog collage artists, show me your work spaces! [discussion]

I’m setting up a studio space after about a year of not having one. I’m starting from scratch. I like a big table top workspace, and a pin wall for ideas, but I’m looking for suggestions of material storage, set ups, everything! I’m excited but daunted to start again.

ETA: I’m glad I’m not alone in working in chaos on the floor. Maybe to reframe, if you had the opportunity to set up a workspace (albeit small and shared) what would you prioritize?

Patterns inspired by artists

I always have my eye out for patterns inspired by art or artists but I haven’t found too many. Let me know if you’ve come across any!

Is there a better way to search on ravelry than by each artist I like individually?

Quickly approaching the ends of my current spins, decision fatigue on what to do with my next sets of braids

I’m just wrapping up a beautiful gradient combo ply (done in three skeins to have comparable gradients for the sleeves and body of a sweater) and 500g of malabrigo nube for a shifty. I’m super excited to start working with my next two sets of braids, but I’m not sure what to do with them. I’ve had a lot of thoughts, but nothing that feels quite right and gives me the confidence to start spinning.

I know that I should actually knit up my previously spun yarn but I love spinning so much (I spin on a drop spindle and I bring it everywhere!) and it’s the perfect productive fidget for me so I like to have at least something in the works!

Photo 1: 300g of Rambouillet. This set is so beautiful, but nothing feels quite right. I also don’t need to use them together! But I think they’re a really lovely playful set.

Photo 2: 200g of hannui. This set is so moody, I’m in love. I’m considering doing as a two ply with undyed Hebridean as the second ply to increase the volume and lean into the moody richness.

ETA: I’m open to all options and suggestions! I’m a pretty new spinner and would love to learn more techniques and skills!

I’ve self drafted a bunch of pairs of socks and I was thinking about writing up the patterns! I started making the chart in stitch fiddle but I’m not a fan. Any other places to make a chart or should I just do it in excel?

Also, what do you find most helpful in a knitting pattern?

I got three braids of Rambouillet, which I’m so excited to work with for the first time! I feel like they have a summer, winter and fall vibe, and I wish I had found one that felt springy!

Any suggestions on how I should spin them? Separate, combo ply, add in another colour, etc. I work on a drop spindle!

ETA: let me know if you have suggestions on what to knit with it! I haven’t actually knit with my handspun yet, I’m a new spinner, but I’m very excited to start! It just feels so precious I don’t want to ruin it!
