I'm afraid to reset my password.

Edit: I'm on a PC laptop using Firefox on LInux. Hotspot allowed Tracfone is USB tethered.

Edit: Phone is a kyocera duraxv extreme feature phone. I don't use any apps on it or access the internet. Laptop only via tethering for that.

Been using my old 6 character password for ages. When logging in I get an admonishment and the new password instructions in red. I've been ignoring it and just hitting login. It keeps working.

I do not see reset password in the account dropdown, after a search it appears you need to hit the "forgot password" button that appears at login and go through the process. However, I saw a bunch of posts about the new temp password not working, people getting locked out etc.

I cannot deal with that right now (I'm usb tethering for crucial internet in my van), has anyone recently successfully updated or changed their password? Concerned that eventually my old 6-character one will stop working.

thanks

I used to have a widget that imposed black text/white background on any webpage. NOT reader view. Images intact.

Hello, on an old profile (I can't access at the moment), after a lot of searching as I recall, I found a widget you could put on the bookmarks toolbar (I think that's how it worked).

/Not reader view/. Images would still be there.

The usual stuff like dense vegetation covering the complete background with light brown text on top of it would be instantly transformed to black on white.

Images intact.

Sound familiar to anyone? thanks

Linux Mint up to date.

Kycocera E4810 turn off/toggle robot-voice date/time/number/duration on voicemails? Tracfone.

I have 3 active Kyocera E4810 duraxv-extreme phones. All purchased used. All on Tracfone.

One of them has no robot-voice date/time/number/duration recording added to voicemails.

I made no changes (that I know of) to the phone to create this. For voicemail I just created my greeting message on all 3 phones.

So, I assume a previous owner made the change.

I can't find anything in phone or voicemail settings that addresses this option, nor searching the topic online.

I would like to be able to toggle this feature on and off. I received a 40 second "dead air" message on the phone that has the robot-voice turned off and would like to see the number (nothing in the various call history options shows it).

For that reason, but also the robot-voice date/time/number/duration thing is rather long, would like to have the option to toggle it on/off.

thanks

Cannot transfer files to USB drive. Legacy BIOS system.

EDIT: ASSUMED RESOLUTION: [Haven't fixed it yet (time for a break), but I didn't set any permissions. Thanks u/doc_willis !]

Original post:

Hello, am creating a backup protocol, long overdue. Have some data messes to clean up.

My 2 laptops both have Legacy BIOS systems.

I read GPT partition table can be used here if no plan to boot, so I installed that then made one large ext4 partition.

Drive is a 1TB ssd.

I connected via BlacX USB module, drive is shown in "Devices".

The drive won't accept files. Tried copy/paste, drag/drop.

Reformatted with MBR partition table/ext4 file system, same result.

I was planning on using this drive for system backups as well. Then expand to other drives from there.

I am able to choose both "unmount" and "safely remove" in Thunar.

I tried file transfer on 2 systems: Manjaro on one laptop, Mint on the other.

Any ideas? thanks

Stop automatic repeating picture slideshows on all websites?

Hello, I don't know what this is called but find it extremely annoying. Additionally so if it's using up data (does it?).

Usually found at the top of the page.

[EDIT 1: Not always pictures as example linked below, could be news stories etc.]

[EDIT 2: I have used and appreciated "reader view" in the past, very nice for focused reading. Unfortunately (depending on desired effect) that takes away /all/ pictures. I'd like to still see what's being scrolled, but choose when to look at each frame.]

I found ways to stop "Banner Sliding" and thought I was in (as far as what the photo slideshows are called).

Apparently that's not it, but rather blends into one long scroll web pages that ask you to click to next page (of many) within one article.

That's satisfying to destroy, but not what I'm talking about. Here's a simple example. Beautiful pictures, but like I said...

thank you

Note: Longtime Firefox user, I'm on Linux using Vivaldi. Cannot access Firefox due to updating snafu on Manjaro (long story). Will be changing distros soon (Linux Mint).

Short version: Should I create a 40GB swap space during install to try out Hibernate? Or is it known Hibernate won't work on 2009 laptop.

Hello, I have the legacy install instructions on hand and 22.3 XFCE iso on a thumb drive via Ventoy.

I've been using "suspend" regularly for a long time. That and "shut down". I'd always heard of "hibernate" but never examined what it actually does.

Have been doing some reading, I believe it is just what I need to add to the mix! I had no idea you can actually turn off AC power, then restore to where you left off.

My situation is AC power = small generator or small Ecoflow battery pack (laptop battery pretty weak). That makes me need to close everything and shut down in many circumstances. Hibernate to power off would be great!

I gather Mint has Hibernate off by default, and may not be a simple thing to configure. When I do the install, should I go ahead and make maybe a 40GB swap space so I can at least mess around with it? Or is my old laptop a known "no go" for the Hibernate option.

2009 laptop 64bit w/32GB of ram. Install on 256GB ssd.

thank you
