System upgrade options 2012 XF?

Returning for more advice as you were all so awesome last time!

Desperately need to upgrade the info system, maps are woefully out of date and I really want CarPlay/Waze available

Anyone got any recommendations/steer clear advice please?

Don’t want to drop a couple hundred £ on something crappy or that doesn’t integrate too well so any pointers appreciated!

(Apologies if you see this duplicated - I may cross post to a more general sub)

Hairdresser recommendations Liskeard area?

There’s several salons in the area but would appreciate recommendations if possible!

Looking for someone who can do a modern, layered restyle on wavy hair, any input appreciated!

I do drive so doesn’t have to be in town, thanks

What are we feeding? And how much are we spending?

I’ve found a food that is going down well with my hogs, after a fair bit of trial and error, pricing up different options etc I’ve found a chicken, turkey & veg one which they enjoy, eat well and from my fairly extensive research (because I’m a bit of a nerd when I go down a rabbit hole) seems good quality and it comes in at £1.39 per kg on subscribe & save (I know Amazon is a blight but unfortunately I have restrictions and all my non prescription pet supplies are on subscribe & save)

However, while I’m still battling my rat issue I’m going through so damn much. 20kgs in around a week 😬

I’m trying to time when I put it out etc, but I won’t leave the hogs hungry if I can help it

I am also working on rat deterrents, tomorrow swinging wood flaps, soaked in repellent will be being installed (once dried!) relocating the hut etc etc

But I’m struggling to keep up with costs currently!

Anyone found better?

P.s not being an arse but I’m not interested in hedgehog specific foods, though I suspect they’d be more expensive anyway!

Picture of Geri, my favourite spiky problem being relocated after the second break IN last night for attention 😂

Over friendly/human comfy wild hog tips? NO health concerns

Apologies** **for the insanely long post - it all feels relevant, I have popped a TL:DR near the top under the bits I need EVERYONE to see!

As a side note, whilst writing this post SHE BROKE IN AGAIN!

22:10 - first break in

23:24 - second break in

No refreshments were served during criminal activities!

Things I’m doing - keeping my distance obviously! (As much as she’ll allow 🤦‍♀️)

Contacting my local rehabber

Checking with neighbours to see if anyone has released one close to me

TL:DR wild hog way too comfortable with me. Follows me, broke in to my secure place pen - need suggestions!

She’s HATES being around hogs but very comfy around me, she’s followed me a couple times for snacks

She has eaten from my hand when I haven’t whipped it away quick enough

Yesterday she was just outside my cat secured pen making enough noise for me to go and feed her in a new spot, alone

Today she managed to break INTO the secure cat pen. She had gone to the refreshment hut but 2 other hogs were there so she didn’t enter, I was inside for around 10 minutes faffing about. Came outside and she’d managed to get in? No clue how/where but she forced/figured a way into an area that likely still smells of my old dog, has 2 cats who were outside! And a human

There’s no obvious, open gap she could fit through, if there were the cats would have shown me!

Like, it’s THEORETICALLY cute and stuff and I don’t mind the very odd Snow White moment and if it was *NECESSARY* I’m able and willing to take something in for rehab/keeps. But I’m not taking a wild animal and imprisoning it unless it is absolutely essential

But she’s fit, healthy (apparently!) and she should be living a lovely, wild, human free existence

There are many hogs around me, it isn’t uncommon for me to come across them during my nightly wandering and refills. They obviously know it’s me feeding because I always talk and they have great sense of smell. But they all still either at least nose tuck or rapidly waddle away (even if they return to the food within 90 seconds 😂)

The way she is behaving is not appropriate for a wild animal, even a youngster who’s used to having food/water provided by the same person. The above behaviours of the others are what should be expected/exhibited

I’m going to contact the rehabber I know on Monday for a chat/suggestions, might knock on a few of the neighbours doors too - see if anyone has released one close by and check with a couple localish rescues about releases near me

I know there was one because I took it in, but I’m fairly sure this one was here while that one was being treated

Fortunately I’m very rural, pretty sure the hogs I’m feeding outnumber the humans and I’m sure they’re all decent BUT it only takes one and not only does she (obviously!) deserve not to be scared let alone hurt, I’ve far too many beings reliant on me to be able to go to prison!

This evening I popped her outside, she scuttled about 6” and waited for her supper to be dispensed 🤦‍♀️ I can hear her now eating, about a foot from the gate where the cats are

I’m hoping maybe sexual maturity will help but that’s not likely until next year if she’s one of this years

To reiterate - she is a good weight, eating (VERY) well, moving well etc no health concerns at all other than extreme and very unusual over comfort with (very large!) human

Anyone ever dealt with similar? Have any suggestions‽ Do I just accept I’ve accidentally acquired another freeloader that just happens to live outside‽

I’m off to search for hedgehog houses/see if I still have enough materials to make another one as it appears she’ll likely need the support 🙃

Automatic timed biscuit feeders? Battery only! (Please read further info before recommendations due to circumstances very specific requirements!)

Hi all, looking for any recommendations for this style of biscuit dispenser, it must be battery operated, with timings and ideally some kinda manual, distanced letdown too. However, I don’t have mega money

I know I want be able to get all of the above - I’m not that naive but shoot for the moon, hope to land in the stars right?

Reason for the specifics above, not actually for cats lol but that’s defo the style I need but I feed multiple hedgehogs. At the moment I’m doing refills 3 times a night but there are still sad little hogs missing out when they come late - refreshment hut is all cammed up so I have an idea of regular timings and if it has the option when I see someone pop in for a snack if there isn’t much there I can drop some down

Needs to be battery operated because it’s outside and don’t want to spend loads because although it’s in a plastic hut I don’t know how well it’ll stand up to being somewhat outside and how much the wildlife will brutalise it!

If I simply put a manual one out, however much I put out would be emptied within an hour or so as it isn’t just hogs that dine with me

Any suggestions at all greatly appreciated! I’ve included a screenshot of the style I’m after rather than the circular ones that rotate to open a different section

What tyres are people running? (UK based though I assume many tyres are international!) Jaguar XF

Hi all, going through tyres damn quick despite being low mileage (circa 5K in 12 months)

Running 245/45ZR18 100W on the fronts and 245/45ZR18 100W XL on the rears

Wanting to invest in some decent tyres and get them all switched at the same time before any of them actually go

I’m in Cornwall so don’t tend to have massive temperature swings, particularly super low. Rarely in the minus and usually not for prolonged periods

I am fairly rural so muddy and wet quite often

Don’t want to spend mega money unnecessarily but cheapos are definitely a false economy! Unfortunately as these things go they’ve so far needed urgent replacement when I’ve not been particularly affluent and I’m trying to get ahead of it for once rather than just reacting!

Any input much appreciated, thank you 😊

14 year old car went in for MOT today…

It PASSED! couple advisories (absolutely bloody fine with that!) I have literally NEVER in my 20+ years of driving had a car simply, PASS!

Absolutely, genuinely delighted 🙌

Hope everyone is having a wonderful Friday!

I’m about to skip down to the garage and collect the old chap 😆

Crumb tray stuck - please help‽ Bridgepro 543302-1

Hi all, I decided to give my air fryer a proper full clean but I can’t get the damn crumb tray out. I have:

Used a work knife to slide around the side/back

Pulled with pliers whilst wiggling and/or using the knife along the back

I sprayed heavily with The Pink Stuff & left overnight

It lifts all the way back to the rear seam but I can’t get the rear to move

It’s definitely supposed to come out, I checked the manual and it has a little lip at the front to grab to ‘slide’ out

I can’t see any kind of mechanism/screw holding it in place

It’s driving me batty, I’m about ready to chuck the damn thing in the garden at this point and fully grump

Please save my sanity!

I do have a video of it NOT coming out but it’s gross (hence the trying to remove to clean!) and I’m rather embarrassed to share it

ETA - I’ve just liberally applied Cif CleanBoost Power & Shine kitchen and I’ve also found a very old bottle of De-Solv-it but I’m unsure about using that in something that cooks food 😬

FINAL EDIT I have got it out, spraying liberally with degreaser, pulling & wiggling with pliers whilst levering the back with the knife got me there. Frustrating but ridiculously proud of myself now 😂 leaving this up for if anyone else needs it! Keep going, you can do it too 💪

(Apologies for the ongoing conversation with myself 🙃)

Rats eating more than hogs, any suggestions?

So, I actually have no issue with rats eating and I’d never try to put water where they can’t reach - they’re just trying to survive like the rest of us and it’s not their fault hedgehogs are deemed acceptable & rats not imo

Therefore, obviously not interested in traps and definitely never poison! I think it’s unutterably cruel and has wide ranging implications-we also have owls here (that have hunted rats near my refreshment huts 😬)

But, I’m currently up to replenishing 2 to 3 bowls at least 3 times a night and there’s still often nothing left when my last hogs come for a bedtime snack and I’m not always awake around 3am for a final refill

I don’t even mind popping a bowl out so the rodents can eat separately but I’m getting a little fed up with the quantity they’re going through and I’m very concerned about creating a population explosion due to constant food & water available

Anyone had any success with deterrents?

I have seen that almost a cat flap door thing that’s too heavy for rats can work. But honestly, these dudes are built! If it’s heavy enough to foil them, pretty sure it would also deter some of my smaller hogs

I’ve placed mint plants by the entry’s. I purchased highly rated deterrent spray and as I have puppy pads under the bowls I drenched the one under the food bowls

Bugger all difference

I have genuinely googled rat contraceptive 😂 but again, I’m concerned about the wider implications of anything I try and I’m not sure that’s something that realistically exists 🤣

Does anyone have any suggestions? Or do I just need to accept my fate of being expected and disdained by hogs and munched by rats when I expire due to my previous actions?

Large/extra large cat tree recommendations? That isn’t hundreds of £ but safe 🤞

**ETA** Thanks for all the input everyone, unfortunately you were spending your time & consideration advising an absolute fcknugget (aka me, aka OP) before seriously considering the pictured example I dutifully measured the length of where I want it. I was utterly gleeful that it fitted somewhat perfectly!

However, I neglected to mention the height of my room (static caravan so not ‘full’ height/standard ceilings) I have 213 cm or 7’ in old money. This beast is 234 - 261 cm aka 7.7’ - 8.6’

So, back to the drawing board! I’ll leave my fckwittery public as there’s so much kind and thoughtful help that others may benefit from, someone else may also benefit from said fckwittery sooo….. 🙃

**End of Edit**

Hi all, I’d really like to treat my babies to something like this fab looking cat tree

Price is good but reviews are mixed - I don’t mind adding security myself such as screwing to floor/attaching to wall for stability but need to know the main structure is sound

My girl is on the small side but my boy is a clumsy **CHUNK** and they’re likely to be racing, chasing & jumping up and down so stability is super important - even if that means doing it myself

I’m prepared to pay what I need to however I’m on a budget so if it’s super expensive it would take me a long while to save (though obviously safety is paramount!) and I’ve a little extra this month plus they’ve lost their canine big sister this month so I’d love to treat them

Any suggestions please? Been eyeballing this one a while but now I’m in a position to purchase I checked the reviews and they’re making me a bit nervous

Wondering if I’d maybe be better buying a couple slightly smaller, individual ones that are higher reviewed and placing them in proximity/potentially attaching them together myself?

They do have a cheap one that’s held up to my boy launching himself and clambering up for about 2.5 years so maybe I’m overthinking?

Any input appreciated! It’s a big purchase and I’ve nobody to talk it over with personally that has valid input!

Wildlife friendly patio cleaning stuff?

Hi all, apologies if you see this a couple times. I’ll likely cross post to appropriate subs if allowed

Currently working on cleaning a drive/patio in a super rural, wildlife heavy area

I love the wildlife (current general dogsbody to a colony of hogs and more rodents than I’d like!) So I absolutely don’t want to use anything harmful

Areas I’m cleaning haven’t been touched in years, if not decades and there’s a heavily entrenched moss, lichen etc

I have a RYOBI patio scrubbing/cleaner thing + a pressure washer. I’m definitely making a difference but I figure if I could use something (even washing up liquid!) is likely to get me further, quicker. It’s a large area that’s been left a long time, anything I can use to help would be received with gratitude!

If there’s nothing safe, I’ll keep on with heavy amounts of elbow grease, with cider & beers to aid lubrication 😉

Any safe suggestions super appreciated though!

Static caravan constantly tripping fuse

Hi all, hoping for some input on where to even start here please. Usual person who assists is currently incapacitated!

I have a static caravan that is currently tripping constantly. I’ve unplugged everything down to one socket, I’ve tried a different extension/socket etc and getting nowhere

I’ve physically checked the lead from the ‘van and the lead it connects to - no damage to either bar a couple small areas on one that is only the outer casing

Can’t currently get a sparky and not relishing no electric until I can

What can/should I check next? Is there a device that I can plug in to check? If so there will likely be one laying around in the vicinity!

Any assistance other than get it a pro is greatly appreciated

TIA

Hi all. Hope this is ok to post here, I’ve had a look through and can’t find it already being answered

Planning on getting my car wrapped in the imminent future but have some gnarly paintwork issues that will cause problems, don’t particularly don’t to take up too much of the installers time until I’m ready to proceed by bothering them with this, also entirely aware it’s going to need rectifying before wrapping!

So, any suggestions on how to begin addressing this shitshow‽ 😂

Any tips other than full professional respray appreciated!

(Also aware a valet is overdue and is imminent!)

Evening all, as the weather is starting to pick up and I finally seem to be getting on top of winning the catio battle my mind is starting to move towards enrichment toys for them

I will be hanging/stringing certain dangly type toys (by ribbon that snaps easily in an attempt to minimise accidents!), there will be tunnels and oodles of favourite toys

Also going to be restoring the ‘cat walk’ that’ll be elevated and putting in different resting/climbing bits for them, trying for a small water feature and there will be a bird table outside the area for cat tv

But I’m really coming up short with actual **TOYS** that won’t have to be brought in every day. They’re both playful but my boy more so - don’t think he got a kitten hood and he can be a little overbearing sometimes when he wants to play with my girl!

Any recommendations please? Inside it’s mostly balls, scratchers & wand toys which are easily replicated but I’d like as wide a variety as possible to prevent boredom

They’d both like to range more widely which I’m not allowing for their sake, the local wildlife & my sanity but I want them to be as happy & fulfilled as possible so
