How do I keep a friendship going with a girl I met, without making things weird?

Hey everyone, looking for some advice here. I met this girl on the bus after tuition class a while back. She’s from a different school. A guy friend of mine who goes to her school was talking to her, so I joined the conversation. She asked me basic details like which school I go to and what classes I take.

Since then, we’ve bumped into each other regularly after classes. Sometimes my guy friend is there, sometimes it's just the two of us. I’ll admit—sometimes I wait up for her without letting her notice and pretend we just randomly ran into each other, though we do actually meet by chance a lot too. When we go bus together, we talk about family, studying, and general life. She’s really smart and takes her studies seriously. I’ve definitely developed a intrest on her, but I’m totally unsure if she likes me back or if she’s just being friendly—she has a lot of male friends, so this kind of casual chatting seems completely normal for her.

Here’s my situation:

A/Ls are next year: I don't want to confess or make things awkward because I really value her as a friend and don't want to ruin what we have.

Limited contact: We only have classes on the same days twice a week, so I only see her on those days.

No text chats: I follow her on Instagram and she followed back. She mentioned that she rarely comes online to avoid wasting time—which is actually true, as she's rarely active. On top of that, I haven't sent her a single message yet because I'm too shy.

Since we don't text at all and only see each other twice a week on the bus after class, how can I maintain and build this friendship over time without coming on too strong?

Would love to hear from anyone who has navigated something similar during A/L years!

Turned 18 three days ago... hyped up by parents for nothing?

Hey everyone,

So I turned 18 three days ago. Growing up, my family was never really big on celebrating birthdays, and I usually never expected any surprises, gifts, or big plans. I was totally fine with that.

But this time, right before my 18th, my parents started talking about how this is a special milestone and that we need to celebrate it properly. Being an only child, I actually got my hopes up a bit thinking maybe they were planning something nice or low-key special for my 18th.

Then the day actually came... and literally nothing happened. Just a plain "Happy Birthday" and that was it. No presents, no celebration, no cake, nothing.

It just feels kinda weird and disappointing because they were the ones who brought it up and made a big deal out of it beforehand. Why hype it up if you're not going to do anything?

To make matters worse, my friends keep asking me, "So, how did you celebrate?" or "What did you get for your 18th?" and honestly, hearing that over and over is getting so annoying when I have nothing to say.

Has anyone else’s parents done this before? And how do you deal with friends asking when nothing actually happened?

how do I make genuine female friends?

Hi everyone,

I’m an 18-year-old guy, an only child from a middle-class family.

Because of my family structure, I don't really have any close female relatives around my age to talk to (no older cousins, punchis, or nandas), so the only female presence in my life is my mom. While I'm super close with her, there are obviously some personal things you just can't discuss with your parents.

I used to go to a mixed school years ago and had a few female friends back then, but I’ve been at an all-boys school for a while now. I have a solid best friend, but my connection with girls is basically zero right now. Sometimes I honestly wonder if it's my bad karma that I don't have any female friends in my life, because I do believe in karma, but I'm trying to figure out how to change my situation.

To be clear: I am not looking for a girlfriend. I know education is my priority right now, and honestly, most girls at tuition classes already seem to be in relationships anyway. I just genuinely want to make female friends, have good conversations, and understand a female perspective on life. My appearance isn't the issue (I'm average, not ugly), but because of my school environment, I just don't know where or how to meet girls platonically. How do guys in all-boys schools usually break out of that bubble and make female friends? Where can I find spaces to just chat and build friendships without it looking like I'm trying to flirt or ask them out?

Would appreciate any genuine advice or tips from anyone who has been in a similar spot. Thanks!

Overclocking a Core 2 Quad Q9650 on a Samsung Q45MO2S1? (Total beginner, need motherboard advice)

Hey everyone, I’m completely new to overclocking and want to try squeezing some more performance out of my Intel Core 2 Quad Q9650. Right now, I have it paired with a OEM Samsung Q45MO2S1 motherboard. I've been looking through the BIOS settings, but I can't seem to find any options to adjust the FSB (Front Side Bus) or voltages. Can I actually overclock on this Samsung board? From what I've read online, the Intel Q45 chipset is meant for business/enterprise machines and is locked down tight. Is there any workaround (like software overclocking utilities), or am I out of luck here?

If I need a new motherboard, what should I look for? I want something that handles LGA 775 quad-cores well and has a user-friendly BIOS for a beginner. Which chipsets are the best for the Q9650? P45? X48? Any specific budget-friendly motherboard recommendations?

Since this is my first time, any extra tips on what kind of cooling I'll need once I do switch boards would be highly appreciated.

Thanks for the help!

Looking for a motherboard

Hey guys, I'm looking for a solid, high-end old LGA 775 socket motherboard for a build. Ideally looking for chipsets like G41 (with DDR3 support), P45, X48, or similar high-performing boards that are stable.

I already checked Facebook Marketplace and ikman.lk but couldn't find any good options there.

If anyone has a working piece in good condition for sale, or knows a shop/place that still has these in stock, please drop a comment

I’ve been noticing something interesting lately while walking around Colombo, and I wanted to see if anyone else has caught on to this. Has anyone else noticed that a lot of Sri Lankan women seem to be taller than the men these days? I see it all the time in malls, offices and public transportation

I’ve been trying to figure out if it’s a genuine height difference or just an optical illusion. My main theory is the high heel factor. Most women in professional or "night out" settings in Colombo are rocking 3-4 inch heels, while most of us guys are flat on the ground in office shoes or sneakers.

But even then, sometimes it feels like the younger generation of girls is just generally taller. Maybe it’s better nutrition? Or maybe I’m just short? 😂

What do you guys think? Is it just the footwear (heels vs. flats)?

Are Colombo girls actually taller than the average, or is it just the vibe of the city?

Guys, have you ever felt like a "short king" while walking around CCC or One Galle Face?

Curious to hear your thoughts!
