Finally, I printed a respooler

Nothing fancy, really. Just a respooler...

I get spools that are too tall for AMS/MMU/Filament dryers, so I need something that helps me to spool the filament from the tall to the Sunlu S4 compatoblw size.

I wanted it also colourful, so now this thing is Black, Red, White and neon Green. Also put some thought into the screw... Silver ones on Black surface and Black ones one... the other surfaces.

Update to the Update to the filter fan debacle on the S1 Max : r/AnycubicKobraS1Max

###########################

I got an answer from Anycubic regarding my email I sent them:

>Dear Uk
Regarding your feedback, our technicians have explained: The 8020 and 12025 fans blow air in opposite directions. The 8020 fan draws air from inside the printer cavity into the air duct (the washer cover you mentioned), while the 12025 fan blows air from the air duct into the printer cavity.

While they appear to be connected in series, our original design intention was that, due to the relatively high air resistance of the PTC heater, when the 12025 fan is not running, turning on the 8020 fan allows a large amount of air to flow through the filter cartridge, achieving a filtration effect. When the cavity heating function is activated, the 12025 fan also turns on. Thus, the air path becomes: printer cavity --> 8020 fan --> air duct --> 12025 fan --> PTC heater --> printer cavity.

Currently, it appears that because the filter cartridge has a high density, its air resistance is even greater than that of the PTC heater. This means that even without the lower fan running, most of the air will still flow through the PTC heater, failing to achieve a filtration effect. One of our next ideas is to replace the 8020 fan with a switchable damper. When filtration is needed, this damper is closed to block the upper air intake, and the lower 12025 fan is turned on. This way, the airflow will be: printer cavity --> carbon bag --> air duct --> 12025 fan --> PTC heater --> printer cavity.

>
Of course, we'll also try having the 8020 fan blow air into the printer cavity from inside the air duct. This way, both the top and bottom fans will blow air into the cavity from the air duct, creating negative pressure within the cavity. The air will then travel from the printer cavity --> carbon pack --> air duct --> two fans --> printer cavity.

Regarding the location you indicated where a red warning label should be placed, please provide a picture and mark the specific location on the picture. We will forward it to the technical department for verification. Thank you.

I really hope they look for a proper fix for that issue ^^

Update to the Update to the filter fan debacle on the S1 Max

Maybe you remember this post A highly disappointing reality check... : r/AnycubicKobraS1Max followed by this post Update on the air filter fan debacle on the S1 Max : r/AnycubicKobraS1Max

I sent Anycubic an email and... yesterday I got an email:

>Technical feedback and fundamental design flaws regarding the airflow and activated carbon filter of the S1 Max

>Dear Uk
We are pleased to receive your suggestion. Upon receiving your feedback, we immediately conducted retesting and verification. It is true that the airflow through the activated carbon pack is limited, significantly reducing the adsorption effect of the activated carbon. However, given the limited space within the cavity and the fact that a small amount of air still passes through the activated carbon pack, the pack still has a certain purification capacity for the air inside the cavity. Meanwhile, our team is also seeking improvement solutions based on your suggestions. The general direction is to modify the air duct to allow more airflow through the activated carbon pack.

Best regards

At least it's no "We don't see an issue here"-mail. They are admitting to an issue here, and I assume a solution is being worked on for upcoming production batches. I might write back to them and ask for a STEP file for the drop pipe.

I printed something... useful ^^

I find this type of riser very useful, as it not only allows me to place the Ace 2 Pro without blocking the glass cover, but also provides space for a Sunlu SP1, giving me the option to print directly from 2 or 3 kg spools if necessary.

Furthermore, there are two drawers to store stuff... like the remote control for the COD LED, which provides 360-degree illumination of the build chamber. While it is not super bright, it is sufficient enough to leave relatively few shadows on the print bed.

In total, I used just over 4 kg of filament for the riser (including the side shelves). Adding the roughly €10 for the print file, it is quite a significant investment in the printer.

Oh, and on the side, there is also a poop and exhaust "splitter"... because... the poop chute is actually the exhaust on this printer, not the grille on the back, since an intake fan sits there to cool the driver board.

I will probably print a different toolhead cover as well... are there any other things that should be printed for this printer?

Update on the air filter fan debacle on the S1 Max

The issue with suboptimal airflow when using an activated carbon cartridge wouldn't leave me alone, so I poked around a bit in the Rinkhals settings and found the following section in the printer.generated.cfg:

https://preview.redd.it/08yk7txsukfh1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=91472c9c95accdaf381c8d3c5b420485f198c2f7

As you can see: a fan setting of 100% is actually only a maximum of 40% of the fan's output (and volume), while all fan levels below that sit at roughly 10% of the specified output.

Whether and when that makes sense is something I won't discuss right now, but I at least adjusted this part via the printer.custom.cfg (which means the setting is then applied to the printer.generated.cfg upon a reboot):

https://preview.redd.it/2t51msxsukfh1.png?width=1372&format=png&auto=webp&s=cc67a555fb1c559f36757cbea52f4e1bedf73b51

So let's take a look at the result (the video)

Well... that is... um... sobering. Without cartridge you can clearly see that there is a significantly stronger airflow (the red threads stand almost at a 90-degree angle) at a fan speed of (now actual) 100%. But as soon as the cartridge is inserted, not much more happens. At least not visibly via the red wool thread.

However: If you hold your hand close to the cartridge, you can feel a very slight draft.

YEAH! PROBLEM SOLVED?

Unfortunately, not at all; actually, the problem has now been amplified. Why? Well, considerably more and faster air is now being forced into the chamber via the chamber heater, without the chamber heater's own fan running. And we remember where and when we need the chamber heater: with ABS and ASA.

And nobody (!) among us who wants to print ASA or ABS wants to unleash storm like winds inside the print chamber.

That means: We need someone who is willing to redesign the air flow shroud

A highly disappointing reality check...

I already thought the stock activated carbon bag was pretty mediocre because the air just flows right past it. So I printed one of those fairly popular activated carbon cartridges, filled it up, and placed it in the printer. And since I always test everything first, I set the recirculation fan to 100%.

Well... to illustrate the problem, here is the video...

Design-wise, this is pretty much doomed to fail from the start, as the air pressure drops massively behind the fan due to the C-shape of the downpipe. And when it hits the activated carbon cartridge, exactly nothing happens. The air bounces off and - like a liquid - takes the path of least resistance: right through the chamber heater.

In the video, I set the fan to 100%.

As you can see... quite disappointing. What is interesting, though, is that when the fan behind the chamber heater kicks in, the cotton thread above the activated carbon cartridge starts moving... whether due to the rising hot air or negative pressure... I would bet on the former.

This is more than just an "unfortunate" design by Anycubic... It is quite simply a flawed airflow concept. Without proper pressure buildup or a closed system, virtually zero air gets forced through the carbon, rendering the filtration effect against VOCs and odors practically useless.

Guess, someone has to come up with a better idea (not me, I can't do CAD even if my life would depend on it)

Bedmesh on a S1 Max with Rinkhals is ...

...kinda meh. No seriously, that's awful. Almost 1.5mm is WAY too much.

It's a rinkhalsed S1 Max and I don't think that I can fix that, right? I mean, yeah, atm the printer can compensate for that, but who says that it won't get worse?

u/uk_uk — 29 days ago

What the actual fuck.... I firmware updated my Q2c and... WHAT THE HELL, QIDI?

Ok, kinda also my fault for not 100% backuping everything, but: THE FIRMWARE DELETED ALL (!) of my config files. Everything... They fucked up kiauh again... seriously, how is this even possible?

To make things even worse:

  • When opening the newly generated printer.cfg on my Q2c, the file header literally says # MAX4 打印机配置文件 (MAX4 Printer Config File) and lists the build volume of a Max 4 (a beginner would be soo confused by this shit). They didn't even bother to clean up their copy-paste development templates before shipping this update.
  • The update script completely messed up the file ownerships again. Half of the directories in /home/mks/ were suddenly owned by qidi:netdev instead of the actual user, completely breaking Git and KIAUH with "dubious ownership" errors.
  • Instead of just flashing the firmware and updating the packages, their execution script simply bulldozes the entire /printer_data/config/ directory. No automatic pre-update backups, no safety checks, just a complete wipe of custom macros and configurations.

It's honestly mind-blowing how a company can sell 3D printers and run their software infrastructure (Klipper for sucks sake) with this absolute level of amateurish negligence. If you are updating a Qidi printer, do not trust their scripts for a second. Manually backup your files off the machine first.

Damn, now I have to spend dozens of hours again for this shit

Berlin has installed free locker systems specifically for homeless people to safely store their belongings

The primary goal is to provide homeless people with the opportunity to safely store their belongings, enabling them to have a bit of dignity, security, and mobility in their lives

The red label says:

>"Locker for homeless people - not a logistics station -

>Here, people who live on the street store their property. The use is free of charge and is financed by donations.

>Please leave it undamaged! Any damage will be reported to the police!"

Canvas is sent...

Yeah...

Ordered April 27th, Date was set to "September 2026", but they sent it today... exactly one year after I got the CC.

Looking forward to have fun with installing everything ;)

Ready for Canvas... (just waiting and waiting and ...)

Pre-ordered on the day of the announcement... and I have been waiting ever since. According to the shipping info, it will take until September. WTF, Elegoo?

Anyway... I wanted to free up some space and now have an awesome, stable table for a printer... at least according to the manufacturer it is for one, but I will have two printers on it. ^^

I do not know yet what will go on top, but the Centauri Carbon will definitely go on the bottom, and since it gets Canvas - as already mentioned - it needs clearance towards the top. So, I printed a riser by u/PrintedRawDesigns, and according to the folding rule, I still have a glorious 3-4 centimeters of space left. Wow.

Ignore the bottle... I do too ^^

https://preview.redd.it/u7zlpjk9gx8h1.png?width=1457&format=png&auto=webp&s=c98896ea6b7c0f3f90ad5aab3dbff30abb42df1d

Light is taken care of as well, of course. But it could be better... but I still have time to find a proper solution ^^

https://preview.redd.it/5420d20dgx8h1.png?width=2131&format=png&auto=webp&s=adfc958dd363e0595eb5498f01aea09ed05aeb15

The advantage of this riser is that it uses inlays, which means they can be removed or replaced with others (or different colored ones) at any time.

Btw, the table is REALLY great and also "modable..." already made some additions to it, like this "can" holder for WD-40 Contact spray, a lube holder and a Innensechskantschlüsselhalterung (hey, I am german, I like long words)

https://preview.redd.it/y6mm6kbehx8h1.jpg?width=2338&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4e4612ce7b0082bca64870204d88fd9b3c5672b6

Guess, I need also something to place a Filament dryer to... atm I have no idea if both the printer (with Canvas) and one of my S4s will fit properly side by side. if not, well...

Vielleicht gibts da was von Ratiopharm? Freud'scher Versprecher?
