Dad didn’t wish me happy birthday

So, since my mom died 13 years ago, my dad has remarried and become completely self absorbed. It honestly has been like a slow motion ghosting process.

And now, we’ve finally reached the point where he didn’t acknowledge my birthday in any way. Not even a text. That was about 3 weeks ago now and I’ve heard nothing from him since. I am 35 and have been more or less without parents for so long now. I’m just tired and sad and lonely.

Why and how did the Cretaceous–Paleogene extinction event fail to annihilate these two

If they only exist in our imaginations why am I subjected to the crime against humanity that is the sound of their voices?

A close family friend is getting married and my partner and I just got the invitation, which states that the dress code is black tie and that all guests are to adhere to a specific color palette (the palette being “black”). This obviously mostly impacts women with their gowns, but also, the ceremony will be outside in the late fall, so everyone will additionally need to find suitable black outerwear.

I am frankly frustrated by the financial burden that a black tie event with color mandate places on us as attendees. I actually own a couple of really nice black tie gowns, but one is a deep burgundy and one is dark blue, so apparently I cannot wear them.

Would it be a massive faux pas to wear a dress I currently own? If that’s a no, am I being incredibly petty by simply opting out and RSVPing that I can’t go? Is this type of dress code requirement normal these days?

I’ve been to many black tie weddings and they’ve never ever had a color requirement, I am at a loss and this feels egregious and tacky.
