Howdy folks- I was hoping I could get a sanity check on this 1970s instrument that’s been in a storage unit for an indeterminate number of years.
Dare I plug it in? Is it a bad idea to mod or service it myself? My pal and I are moderately handy and educated in electronics
My understanding is that all three saddles should have the same basic construction; of the pairs on each saddle, the string on the left is bigger and thus contacts the saddle further back than the smaller string that sits on the same saddle. Some sets of compensated saddles seem to have an odd one out (and removing it and screwing it on backwards didn’t change it).
Am I totally overthinking it?
In the first photo, the middle saddle has the D string sitting more forward than the G. Second they all match. The third photo is from the graph tech saddles listing and the E sits further back.
Something is amiss with my 6th string machine head. It’s a Fender 14:1 vintage style. Was I supposed to get special ones, or did this one just fail on its own? It always felt a little reluctant to get all the way to E, then when I came back after a few days this happened while tuning up
This fender Greta amp will power on and sounds alive, but it isn’t putting out any sound from the guitar. I had been playing it through a Dean Markley speaker cab with a Vox Stomplab IIG modelling pedal when it stopped working. I did use this combo a few times before disaster struck. I think the fuse is still good- the multimeter beeps and reads close to zero ohms.
Any ideas what the issue might be? I thought the impedance was 8 for the cab and 8 for the amp but perhaps I have that wrong.
Thanks in advance- trying to save a visit to the repairman but I am aware of the dangers in tinkering here.
It turns normally, but doesn't change the sound. From what I can hear, the high frequencies are severely hampered. Does that just mean it gave up the ghost while turned down low and is now stuck that way?
I'm going to swap it out, but I'd love some insight into what has occurred.
I had thought it was a mallard hybrid with a harlequin but i see that’s not possible. My picture is bad, but there was something very Mallardy about it, but maybe it was just a Harlequin
I’m sprucing up a secondhand 2012 Les Paul Studio with matte black finish and it’s got speckles and blemishes. Should I attempt any special cleaning or polishing? I know nitro is supposed to age in mysterious ways so I figure it might be permanent and ill advised to tamper with nature here. Cheers y’all!
This unfinished neck sat for a year or so and I think it warped. I’ve loosened the truss rod and raised the saddles to no avail. I don’t suppose a shim might get me there? Am I cooked?
