Is all the story content in Ambition of the Illuminus also in Phantasy Star Portable?

I just started the OG Phantasy Star series and I am loving it. I know that the OG series has little to do with PSO or PSU but I'm very excited to go through the entire series if possible. But I'm only interested in playing offline and for the plot. I'm not that interested in loot honestly.

With that said, I already own the first PSU. I was wondering if I can just play Phantasy Star Portable 1 or 2 instead of getting the PS2's Ambition of the Illuminus but I am unclear if that is a remake or it's own thing?

The strange case of a PS2 exclusive game where it is a sequel to a title that is on a different console but is of the same generatopm. What other examples can you think of that fit this criteria?

EDIT: Realized I spelled "generation" wrong in the title cuz I'm a dumbass.

Granted, I know this a weird one but these are games where the game before and the games after aren't on the PS2 yet they belong to the same generation. In this case, every game here is a sequel to a game that isn't on the PS2.

SLAI is a sequel to an X-Box exclusive called Phantom Crash.

Crimson Sea 2 is a sequel to, you guessed it!, Crimson Sea 1 which is also an X-Box exclusive.

I feel like Hunter the Reckoning is the weirdest. Technically Wayward is a sequel to just Hunter - The Reckoning which was on both X-Box and Gamecube. However there is a sequel to Wayward which is only on the X-Box. Meaning that if you only had a Gamecube, you can only play the first game, if you only had a PS2 you can only play the second game and if you only had an X-Box you can play the first and third only.

What other examples can you think of? Are there any games where the first game is a PS2 exclusive but the sequel is an exclusive on either the X-Box or Gamecube only?

If I plan on mainly playing offline (and probably single player) is PSO Plus worth getting on the Gamecube?

At most I will do local co op with split screen but everything will always be offline for me.

I have never played any PSO/PSU/PSP before.

[Request] Pixygarden (with English Patch) {PS1}

Here's the patch: https://www.romhacking.net/translations/7619/

....................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

Side note, I always loved these little virtual pet simulators. My dream is to get a CRTV that looks like an aquarium and have it play Seaman on the Dreamcast on 24/7 with a controller and speaker to the side so you can feed and interact with it but also just see it swim around. I'm just scared of doing that with my actual copy of Seaman and a real Dreamcast so I might try to get a raspberry pi and have that be on 24/7. It would be cool to do a similar project with this game. Though I feel this is less of an idle game and more interactive than Seaman.

[Request] Romancing SaGa (Pixel Perfect with English patch) {SNES}

Can anyone make a CIA and QR code for the first Romancing SaGa but in Pixel Perfect mode with this complete English Patch? I know there's already a Romancing Saga upload but it's not in Pixel Perfect. Definitely appreciate the other uploading though!

Is there any risk for hitting yes and getting an update?

3DS is modded. Unsure why this message has suddenly appeared after owning my 3DS for a while.

Should I play the Phantasy Star II Text Adventures before I start 3?

I know that the text adventures came out AFTER 3 but narratively I was wondering if it works immediately after playing 2 or are there some narrative "reveals" that work better if I play 3 first. I do know the time difference between 2 and 3.

[REQUEST] Treasure Conflix (with the English Patch) {SNES}

This is Satellaview game on the SNES.

I was wondering if anyone here could make this a CIA file with a QR code. Apologies in advance if it already exists here. I tried searching but couldn't find anything.

What other PC games have been fan "ported" to the 3DS like Diablo and Fallout?

I see a bunch of RPG Maker games like Off and Yume Nikki. But I'm curious about what other PC games that are not RPG Maker have been able to be played on the 3DS? Any Gamemaker games?

I want to download badges but I'm very close to my 300 limit (had to delete a bunch of games). How do badges add to that icon limit?

So I understand that badges are considered icons and will fill that 300 limit. My question is, what exactly does that mean? Does it mean for every badge I download? So if a badge has like 5 different badges in it, does that count as 5 icons? Sorry if my question doesn't make sense, I just never used badges before.

There are SO MANY mech games on the PS2. There's just something about the clunk that comes with controlling them at times that makes every movement feel extra deliberate. What are some mech games you hold dear to your heart on the PS2? Any Sakura Wars fans out there?

The Armored Core series is specifically what I'm referring to with the clunk (that and RAD along with Steambot). I LOVED playing 2. Leos Klein was a beast. Another Age felt like more missions but I also really enjoyed the variety. Sad to say I never played 3 and beyond. One of these days I will but they are all pretty pricey.

I LOVE Steambot Chronicles. Truly just a chill ass game that can be slow as fuck but it absolutely commits to what it is. Which is a choice driven band focused mecha game. And it delivers in spades. Also controlling the mech is so much fun! There's something about the clunk that makes me miss games that used to control this way.

MS Saga is GRINDY as all hell but god dammit does it have heart. The story is pretty average but the world is just fun to get lost in. I only played a little bit of Gundam Seed. Crazy how it has its own cast of characters specifically for the game.

Zone of the Enders 1 is a fun mech game that had a demo for MGS2. That's why I got it and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Zone of the Enders 2 is one of the greatest action games ever made. Silky smooth controls. No clunk to be found. My god I fucking love this game.

SLAI is a lot of fun! I feel like I prefer Phantom Crash still because of some weird choices they made with durability but still it's a VERY fun mech game!

Ring of Red is brutal and easily one of the most immersive mech games on the PS2. It almost feels a bit like Valkyria Chronicles if it was hyper grounded where it gives you a limited amount of time per person to make your move and shot. But even that comparison feels wrong as Ring of Red truly feels of its own league.

Front Mission 4 had a fantastic story. Such an improvement over 3 imo. I'm so sad we never got 5 in the states but 4 (outside of 5) had the strongest story.

Xenosaga is insane. What a series. The sheer length of cut scenes, the brilliant combat, AND THE MECHS!!!! Very much a spiritual successor to Xenogears in that sense. God Albedo still haunts me to this day.

RAD is amazing. I don't care what anyone thinks about the controls. I LOVE IT! Nothing quite like it (except for obviously the Remote Control Dandy games). There's something about clunk that I love. It's why Steel Battalion is my favorite mech game. Or Receiver is one of my favorite FPS games. Having to control things like each leg just feels so utterly unique then when it actually connects, it gives you this feeling unlike anything else. If you are given silky smooth controls every time, things kind start to feel the same. Especially in this safe vanilla sort of way that doesn't actually explore the potential of game mechanics. Don't get me wrong, I still love Zone of the Enders 2 but my heart prefers RAD.

What other mech games are you a fan of on the PS2?

Any Dead to Rights fans out there? I LOVE me some games where you either control or are assisted by a dog as a main feature of the game. What are some of your favorite dog focused games?

The Dog Island is UNDERRATED. It's weirdly packed with content and some really witty (and dark) writing. Love this game!

Dog's Life is crazy. That ending is fucking nuts. Love this game to death.

Snoopy the Red Baron is a truly underrated flight sim game. So much attention to detail and character.

Rule of Rose can get a lot of hate nowadays because the price of it is stupidly large. But if you ever get a chance to play it, it's incredible. Yes it's clunky as all hell but I find such beauty in its clunk. And the art direction alone is incredible.

Haunting Ground is the best Clock Tower game ever made. There I said it. Yes I love the OG, I love the PS1 follow up and the PS1 sequel too. AND I LOVE 3, the insane shakey acting is a choice I stand by. But this is a masterpiece of true hide and seek horror. Yeah the puzzles can get really stupid at times but the horror is almost unmatched on the PS2.

Okami isn't a dog. But I still count it. I played this game on launch and I instantly fell in love. Truly one of the best Zelda clones out there (Mega Man Legends 2 takes the top spot for me though.) I'm so sad we never got more on the PS2. RIP Clover

What other dog themed/focused PS2 games do you love?

It's truly a difficult thing to define what exactly is a second person game. These are some examples that I feel "fit" into that but it's hard to think of any other examples that exist on the PS2. What are some titles you think fit into that category on this console?

What exactly is second person? In literature, first person is from the point of view of the main character. Second person is from the point of view of YOU the reader, who is the main character. And third person is where the narrative is outside from the point of view of the characters in the story. Obviously there are things that stretch those boundaries. There are times where it's a first person narrative doing a third person description of events. They may even be a first person narrative talking directly to you, the reader. Or even third person narratives that refer to you, whether through annotations or witty authorial winks at the reader. It gets really complex with metafictional novels. But they are pretty easy to define for the most part.

Video games are different. It's purely where the camera is placed. If it's from YOU the player, it's first person. If it's distanced so you can see yourself, it's third person. But the fact that YOU the player is a component makes the task of finding a second person game really difficult. I think it has to deal with how the camera is situated with what is being controlled. But how would you define a second person game? Can you think of any examples? I understand that Driver: San Francisco is constantly brought up as an example but what about other games specifically on the PS2?

So RAD is, admittedly, a stretch. I would argue most of it is in third person but that is until you start controlling your mech. Unless you are perched upon the mech, the camera will be from where ever you are standing. That to me has "elements" of second person but I can see how one would not consider it to be that.

Siren is mostly a third person game but you can see through the eyes of the enemy to see if you're in view. And because of that, utilizing the NPC as a "camera" to see yourself, that has, arguably, elements of what can be considered second person.

Lifeline is the one I truly feel is the most second person game there is. Though you can make the argument that it's in first person as it's from your perspective as you watch security cameras to see the character you're "controlling".

There are so many games based off of analogue toys/games. This is mainly just an excuse to talk about the Choro Q franchise. What are some of your favorite PS2 games based off of toys/ttrpgs/board games/other physical media?

So I was VERY tempted to add Dog Island to this list since it's based off of photographs but I felt that's too much of a stretch.

First off, Cy Girls is yet another highly repetitive game. Based off a toy line that I know NOTHING about. But my god playing as Ice is a lot of fun. The cover mechanic, the prone position to fire guns, even the dodging is surprisingly robust. It's kind of crazy how this game controls which ultimately feels like a blueprint to the control mechanics to MGS4 on the PS3. Granted, this did come out while MGS3 was in production so I can easily see how they would take inspiration from it but this beat MGS3 to the punch. Yes it's no where near as good of a game with a forgettable everything honestly. But Ice is a lot of fun to control and I even enjoyed Aska's ninja acrobatics here and there. If only the quality of the levels and missions reflected the controls.

Transformers is an open world game that is a ton of fun! The amount you can do is pretty amazing. Granted the map isn't that interesting but it's LARGE. And this is the best of the franchise until High Noon came in to make their masterpieces.

Hunter The Reckoning Wayward is a PS2 ONLY sequel to an XBox/Gamecube title which was then followed by an XBox exclusive finale with Redeemer. What a confusing mess of a series because in order to experience the whole series you would need to own, at the very least, an X-Box and a PS2. Why did they do that? I have no idea. But it's so much fun! It's a party style top down hack and slash where you beat waves of enemies and bosses. The story is ridiculously campy in all the right ways. Highly recommend. I wish this utilized the multitap because it's really dumb for it to only be for two players max. This game belongs to a larger universe of which I'm a huge fan of called The World of Darkness. Though it isn't the best entry in that franchise (that right goes to VtM Bloodlines), it is the most fun I've had playing a game in that franchise.

Dark Alliance basically took a really amazing RPG series on the PC and actionfied it to the max. Everything Hunter the Reckoning did, both DA did better. It's just so much fun! Also another damn game that should have used the multitap and gone with 4 players. Why is it only 2 players max?

Demon Stone is fun. It's like a LotR's clone of a hack and slash but what gives it the edge is you can play as Drizzt and that's all I care about. XD

Finally the Choro games. These are based on tiny pullback race cars. It's VERY cute! But these games... man oh man. Let's start with Penny Racers. It's like the 19th title in the franchise and it starts off EXTREMELY clunky. But as you win money you can improve your vehicle and start making the game less clunky. And you can make your own fuel guage too. It's so freakishly customizable. I love it! And then you have Road Trip. The plot is insane. The president of the world wants to hold a race where the winner will become the new president of the world. And it's set in a MASSIVE open world where you can pretty much drive ANYWHERE. It's basically the OG Mario Kart World. Then we have Seek and Destroy with is a war game with a bunch of fun missions and characters. Then we finally have ChoroQ which also has an RPG element to it with various islands you can visit. The whole series is just filled with charm and delightful things you can do and customize your car with. Love it.
