Home defense + occasional hunting shotgun?

I am new to shotguns and am looking into getting a 12 gauge for home defense and occasional duck, turkey, and deer hunting. I like the sound of the Mossberg 500 Field / Security Combo but would rather have a semi-auto. My budget is $2000.

Is there a shotgun that fits my needs? Would it be better to just buy two different shotguns instead?

FMJ & JHP | How many mags to keep of each?

I have an Extar EP9 that I use for home defense that I frequently take to the range to train with.

How many mags of range ammo and defense ammo do you keep loaded up? Should I swap my mags around to check their function?

I have 2x 33rd Glock mags and 7x 18rd Extar mags. I've been keeping everything loaded with Blazer Brass because I haven't gotten around to buying Federal 147gr HST yet. Once I buy the Federal, how many mags should I keep loaded with it? How often should I shoot the HST at the range? Also, do you need to clean your mags?

EP45 MDB (Modern Delayed Blockback) also confirmed!

It seems like there will also be a Roller Delayed Blowback version of the EP45 as well. Extar is coining their RDB system as "MDB" (Modern Delayed Blowback) because they put their own modernized twist on it.

They have also mentioned scrapping the EP10 due to tungsten shortages in a separate interview they did at Gun Con. No 16" versions of the MDB will be made because of a lack of demand.

How to mount HUB adapter?

My form 4 just got approved and I picked up my HUXWRX Flow 9k Ti. I want to mount a Plan B Comstock LPA to it and mount that to a Comstock MBC. The directions say to torque the adapter and muzzle device to 30 ft lbs.

What is the best way to hit that torque spec? I can't get anywhere close to that without the upper or suppressor slipping and twisting.

Do I need a vise for this? I don't really have anywhere to mount a vise to so I was hoping someone had any tricks for doing it without

EDC backpack for office that also works as a day hiking pack and personal item?

I'm struggling to find a nice quality EDC backpack that looks professional enough to take to the office that can also double as a day hiking pack. I also want to be able to bring it on planes as a personal item but am fine to stretch the dimensons some on that.

I work as a software engineer so the pack does not need to look crazy professional, but it should not be visibily tacticool (interally is fine) or too outdoorsy.

I like the packs that have customizable internal storage like the Eberlestock Fade Transport 21L and Vertx Gamut 22L, but they are awkwardly tall for holding PDWs which is pointless to me. I like the look of the Vertx Ready Pack X but am worried about the breathability of the back while hiking. I hate packs that make my back sweat. I am also worried about the quality and customer service on Vertx bags. I've heard good things about Mystery Ranch, but their tri-zipper ruins it for me in the office setting.

The Aer City Pack Pro 2 seems good but it doesn't have the customizable internal storage.

Can anyone recommend any other bags that would be good to check out? I know I listed a lot of ~$200 bags, but I would prefer to stay closer to $100 (or less) if there is something that fits. That said, I'm happy to go up to $250 for something quality that checks all the boxes.

How to do you grip EP9 with front hand?

How to you all grip your EP9? I feel like I have no hand space and am worried I set my gun up wrong.

Between having a sling QD on the 3rd left M-LOK and a flashlight mounted to the 1st left M-LOK, I feel like I have no space for my hand on the handguard.

Thin knife under 4" for wallet pouch?

I just got a Chum Surfshorts wallet which has a small pocket on the back. I'm looking for a knife with a deep carry clip under $50 that will fit in the pocket alongside a pen and a few keys.

The pocket itself is 3.5 inches but going to 4 inches would fine providing the clip is long enough. Around 1" width with as thin of a profile as possible would be ideal.

I would prefer if the shape would be somewhat rectangular (not like a Spyderco Dragonfly).

I am leaning towards a CJRB Ria or Civici Mini Praxis, but I am not sure if they are the best knife for what I want.

Where to buy range ammo?

What is a good CPR for new brass range ammo now? I'm trying to use ammo seek to find good deals but I can't find anything better after shipping than the 25 CPR Academy has.

Which light for home defense?

What light does everyone run on their Extar? I am looking for something for home defense. I am thinking about getting a Streamlight Protac HL-X Pro, but am worried it is too big for my EP9.

New Owner!

Just picked my Extar up from the FFL! I can't wait to shoot it!

Does anyone have any fitment issues with the glock 33rd mags? I got 2 and they feel insanely tight even unloaded.

Which PSA lower for first AR?

I'm looking to get my first AR. I'm thinking about doing a PSA lower with BCM upper. I'm going to SBR it and run either an 11.5 or 12.5. There are 2 PSA lowers that both seem good. How much better does the Sopmod and EPT feel? Is it worth the price increase?

Dummy Rounds vs Empty Mag?

I understand mixing dummy rounds with real bullets to simulate malfunctions, but what is the point of them besides that? Why not just dry fire with an empty mag or no mag?

Extar EP9 Mag Sizes and Extar Brand Accessories?

I am going to soon order my EP9 but have some questions. This will be the first firearm that I will own and it will be used for range fun and home defense. I already bought a HUXWRX Flow 9k Ti, a Holosun 510C, Ozark BUIS, and a SBA5 clone for it. I'll order a sling, flashlight, and foregrip for it later once I decide what I want, but I am currently thinking a Streamlight ProTac HL-X Pro, and a Emissary Handbrake or Magpul Handstop kit.

Does anyone have some pictures of what the EP9 looks like with different mag sizes? Most of what is see is the 33rd Glock mag or 18rd Extar mag. I am looking for something that is more flush with the pistol grip than either of those options for storage. Are the Extar mags reliable enough for home defense or should they be range use only? Is it worth picking up the 5 18rd Extar mags for $45?

I don't understand the need for 33rd mags for home defense; they seem like more of a range fun thing to me. What size mags do people use for home defense?

Besides the mags, are there any other Extar branded accessories that are worth getting? Is the sling or extended charging handle worth getting now to save on shipping?

I hear really good things about the Extar pistol grip. How much of an upgrade is the K2, K2+, B5 P23, or BCM Mod 3?

Huxwrx Flow 9k Ti vs YHM R9?

I was pretty dead set on getting the YHM R9 but I've heard of lots of issues with it being too gassy. Now with the sale going on in /r/gundeals, I am considering getting the Flow 9k instead.

Does anyone have experience with either of these? How gassy does the YHM R9 get? How much louder is the Flow 9k? I've heard the YHM R9 sounds like a staple gun with subsonics.

I'm currently waiting on my Extar to ship so I haven't shot one before. The gun is for home defense but also something I would shoot a couple hundred rounds though every month to train with.

2 RXMs vs Extra Slide/Frame

I'm considering getting an RXM (or 2) because of the value and modularity. Being able to essentially run a G17, G19, G45, and G49 whenever I want seems really cool.

How easy is it to change frames/slides? Would it be better to buy a second RXM instead of an extra slide/frame? That feels like it is kind of defeating the purpose of having such a modular design if it's a hassle.
