Character Building

So Ive only played DND kindof by playing BG3. I've watched Critical Role, only on episode like 25/26 of Campaign 1.

I'm interested in starting to build a character.

I have plenty of time to create one with depth, I work 2 jobs and have no time set when I'm gonna try my first game -- anyway long story short I wanna make a good back story.

I've seen CR talk about metagaming a few times and I want to make sure I don't do that

SO my question, what can I look at to start building a back story? I assume I should get DND books, read some "lore" for different areas but I don't know if I'd learn things my character wouldn't know or something like that.

I assume not because I have to understand some things to build the back story right?

Just looking for tips and suggestions

I don't think I can ignore EMS any longer

So a little background: I was in the military and learned very basic life saving techniques. Basically I remember how to put onna tourniquet.

I've always been worried there will be a time and place that someone is badly injured and will die it I'm not equipped knowlege wise and so on to be able to save their life at least until an ambulance gets there. I want to learn BLS and First Aid in depth at least

Experience Background: I'm in Recovery myself and have worked in and currently still work in mental health and addiction treatment. I absolutely love it, and there's not a lot of areas in life that I'll say I'm good at but I get told a lot by clients in treatment, patients when I worked at a Psych Hospital, and coworkers, management and so on that they appreciate everything I do, how much I care, apparently I have a calm outward demeanor and things like that.

Point of all that is to say I absolutely love working in treatment, helping people and I'd like to think I'm good at it.

Every few months I feel a calling to pursue an EMT career, or path or something. I've been told I should do nursing, I think my way out of it because of military background I feel I should start at the bottom and work my way up to be worth anything; but starting as a CNA and 90% of your job being bathroom situations just aint it for me fr.

I also think my way out of EMT courses and paths. From what I've read and researched, most people are scared of what I'm currently battling with -- What if I freeze or my hands are shaking when it really matters? What if someone's life is in my hands and I screw up?

Either way I know I need to take BLS and First Aid courses. I am already certified in BLS/First Aid/AED and CPR but I feel like having the cert and having the real actual ability to save someones life with these things sre different and I want more of the latter.

I think I'm called by SOMETHING to pursue an EMT path but I keep talking myself out of it.

I can do all the research in the world but I won't know how I react in these situations without being in them. But then what if I get all the way there and fail 🤦🏼‍♂️ I cant expect to be perfect without practice and repetition but these are the thought processes I keep having and talking myself out of it.

So 🤦🏼‍♂️ any advice or suggestions?

28 M EST looking for new people to play and vibe with

Im from the US. I work 3rd shifts so I barely have time to connect with people IRL so Im looking for new people to talk to on here who might be up lol

If you play Wild Rift we could play "overnight" if youre on EST time

Where I work the people are asleep generally so I'm free to play Wild Rift mobile for the most part.

Orher than that I play Rocket League here n there when Im not working. I've played some other games here and there, shooters and such but I'm not really into COD.

Id be willing to learn other games if there's a good vibe.

As most of us prolly know since we're on here, the vibe and friends is what makes gaming stay fun. Over the years I've had a few groups of friends that have been nonstop laughs, fxd up jokes, all kinds of stuff and fun while gaming but you eventually stop playing together and life gets busy.
