Cooling - Octopus cooler - Retrofit

Yesterday with the post about the Octopus cooler, u/ectoplasmosis69 pointed out that similar devices have existed for a long time.

Innova calls them WLHP Air-to-water heat pump terminals.

I wonder if you could have a similar effect with a dual hose portable a2a heatpump and using an existing radiator (plumbing configured for heating and cooling) as a heat sink, through an insulated closed air loop.

This kind of thing has been around for ages, and is nothing new. Example products available:

Octopus are just being hype merchants here, and their 'prototype' looks like shit.

Independent review into mental health conditions, ADHD and autism: interim report

Part of the Conclusion

The issues addressed in this review are significant not only because they affect diagnostic statistics or waiting lists, but because they shape how individuals experiencing psychological distress or neurodevelopmental differences are recognised and supported across health, education and the wider system of support and treatment. The evidence reviewed in this interim report indicates that the current position cannot be explained by a single narrative. In some areas - particularly among younger people - there is credible evidence of increasing psychological distress. In others, notably ADHD and autism, rising diagnoses and referrals appear to exceed changes in underlying epidemiological prevalence and are likely to reflect a combination of:

improved recognition changing help-seeking behaviour institutional incentives pressures within existing service pathways

Across both ADHD and autism, best currently available population-based estimates remain relatively stable, while administrative diagnoses, self-identification and recorded service demand have increased substantially. In autism, the evidence also points to particularly rapid growth in identified need within educational systems, including increasing identification among girls and among young people without learning disability. These patterns suggest that rising demand is not simply the result of increasing prevalence, but of several processes operating simultaneously, including:

real increases in distress in some groups improved recognition of previously unmet need changing expectations about support systems that frequently rely on formal diagnosis as the primary route to assistance

Anmesty International - Anti rights organisations in the UK

Original post https://www.reddit.com/r/UKGreens/comments/1uuhte2/amnesty_international_put_out_a_major_report/

TL DR

Key findings

• An organised anti-rights movement targeting the rights of women and LGBT+ people is growing in the UK. Over 60% of the organisations mapped have emerged since 2017, the vast majority gender critical organisations.

• Out of the sample of 117 organisations mapped, 37 have spent over £144 million between 2019 and 2024, an increase of 47%.

• One in three of the organisations mapped are registered charities, this means they can apply for institutional funding and may be eligible for ‘Gift Aid’ – a scheme enabling registered charities to reclaim tax on donations.

• The biggest spenders are ultra-conservative Christian policy and advocacy organisations (£46.7 million), followed by UK branches of US groups (£43.9 million) and anti-abortion organisations (£35.8 million).

• Out of 117, 43 organisations appear to be based or headquartered outside of London. This suggests that anti-rights activity is geographically widespread and not concentrated in London. Even when actors have specific locations, they may be active beyond these on their own and/or in partnership with other actors in other locations.

• There is evidence of crisis pregnancy centres receiving funding from the government as well as the National Lottery.

Portable AC dual hose idea for emergencies. Loft - Conservatory - Attached garage

This is a post about finding the problems and mitigations with this idea. I am not proposing anyone to do this. I am not responsible for you using this idea.

Some lofts/ unconditioned spaces get very very hot. Someone might come up with the idea to use a passive loft (other) vents to vent the hot air from a portable AC, bring new air and keep the Loft/space at outdoor temperature and at the same time cooling the house.

In theory If you live in a house with an area that could benefit from outdoor airflow you could use the possitive pressure from a single hose air conditioner exhaust to bring new air into this area and at the same time cool down your house by connecting the cold intake and output to the house.

There was a Electriq portable heatpump that could be used outdoors with a cold circuit and with a dual hose attachment.

Problems:

  • Device might break before you notice there is a problem.

  • Non obvious Humidity problems can appear.

  • You don't know the size of the hose you need for the cold circuit.

  • To even start considering this you will need insulated hoses coming and going from the intake for the condenser and for the output (the cold circuit). NOTE: The input hose needs to be bigger than the output.

  • Humidity in this space and surfaces will need to be monitored and the process might need to stop.

  • The AC might not be big enough to compensate for the airflow needed to keep the loft or area at outdoor temperatures.

  • You will need to deal with Humidity on the device surface as well as the drain. Maybe with a tray and some work, maybe with insulation.

  • Insurance might not cover damages.

Can you guys think of more problems and mitigations?

Daikin Altherma 3 - Heat only to Heat and cooling

I need some help. My house is quite warm right now and I live with people with special needs.

I have got a Daikin Altherma heat only version installed. Could this be modified to be heat and cold?

Part of my plumbing is insulated and I could setup some fan assisted radiators to keep the house livable and the people healthy.

Prevalence of Ageism in society

The problem:

Boomers vs Gen Z vs Gen X.

Gen Z is lazy

Boomers are entitled and are the problem because they are taking all the wealth

Have we become too desensitised to ageism, and is it a tool that is being exploited for control/surveillance?

This morning I was going through the news and I found this article.

'Lazy but convenient' - a quarter of young adults have two or more takeaways a week

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cqxpn1l5l73o

The article is about how unhealthy is takeaway but it uses ageism tropes to get people engaged.

Growing up I felt manipulated a lot so I started creating barriers to it. Once I started paying attention to Ageism in social media it was hard not to see the frequency it is being used. Have you noticed the same? Are you looking for ageism in your life?

Ageism seems like one of those invisible barriers that power and the ultra rich creates to divide and conquer.

Hey all, Does anyone know why the A1 Power Supply isn't listed for sale on the Bambu Lab UK store? I can see the X1/P1 series PSUs, but the A1 is missing. Is there a specific reason it’s restricted? Where can I find an official one in the UK? (Besides 3DJake, which is often 70£). Are there reliable 3rd party options? Or is a support ticket the only way to get an invoice for one?
