What do people mean when they say "good proportions?"

i just don't understand what people mean when they say "good proportions" can make you look taller, aside from the obvious of just not being fat. is it like something achievable or is it just genetic?

are there any sports where being short is actually a benefit?

im 5'7 and played soccer for lots of my childhood without height really being much of an issue, but i started playing basketball in college and genuinely found myself getting cooked by goons several inches than taller than me. besides soccer, what sports do you think height is less important in or even an advantage? i wanna expand my horizons.

is it weird for an asian goon to learn italian?

im a 20 yo asian american dude and ive recently finished taking intermediate italian 2 at my college. i love the language, culture, and the soccer teams there (especially ac milan) but my parents, in a very loving way, remind me how "useless" italian is, how unusual it is for an asian dude to learn italian, how out of place i would be in italy. ik it probably seems dumb to be insecure about this, but is it unusual for an asian to learn italian and would italians think it's weird if they heard an asian person speaking their language?

What is the difference between tun and machen?

I feel like I never actually seen “tun” used in any speech or writing besides when people say “es tut mir leid.” When is tun actually used?

does height matter less outside of the united states?

as a 5'7 goon from the us i feel like i always see people talking about height. i was wondering if height is really as important in europe and africa (ik asia also emphasizes height a lot) and whether dating in those places places less emphasis on specific height cutoffs.

is physique more or less important for short guys?

as a 5'7 dude, i try to workout a lot to compensate for my lack of height. but honestly im wondering if physique is equally important for your physical appearance since i often hear short buff guys get called "meatballs" because they are too muscular for their size. what do yall think

is tall women liking short guys a real thing?

i keep hearing this trend of taller women liking shorter guys and was wondering if it's actually real bc i dont think ive ever seen it. ive tried talking to women around my height (5'7) or taller and its never worked out well, although ive never been good with women tbh. do yall think this phenomenon is actually a real thing?

Do you think proportions matter more than height?

Was playing bball with my friend whose a bit overweight and has kinda short legs and i thought we were always about the same height (im 5’6.5). When i asked him about his height i tries to be generous by asking “you’re about 5’8, right?” and he actually wound up being 5’10. Im wondering if i thought that bc his proportions deceived me and if they can have that visual power pr if im genuinely just schizo.

does a woman's height actually matter?

i always understood height matters way more for guys but ive honestly never seen a way in which its affected women. in particular i noticed that inde navarette, who is one of the biggest and most attracitive actresses right now is like 4'11, which is super short for a woman, and it doesn't seem to have had any negative consequences in her life. my mom is also like 5'1 and she is an extremely successful doctor. im not trying to sound insensitive but i just feel like ive never noticed women being discriminated against for their height the same way men are. ive never understood why women complain about being short. please understand im not trya hate

is 5'7 a bad height?

idk if im truly 5'7 ( i measure 5'6.6 in the morning but 5'7 later in the day) but i keep hearing people ridicule this height and im wondering how bad of a height it truly is. ive never been explicitly bullied or ridiculed but i see a lot of content that seems antipathetic towards this height.

besides sports and dating, how much does height actually matter?

im just wondering in what other sense height truly matters besides what i mentioned above. as a 5'7 guy who likes playing basketball, i get that most sports benefit taller players and that most women prefer taller guys when it comes to dating. but aside from that in what way does it truly affect your life? im not trying to sound insensitive but ive personally never encountered any real discrimination outside of those fields.

do you think some short guys blame their height too much?

just to clarify, for very short guys i think it's very fair to complain or be dissatisfied (5'5 or below). But for just moderately short guys (5'6 - 5'8) do you think some guys are too dramatic? obviously people have personal experiences with being discriminated against, but do you think just moderately short guys often blame their height and blame it more than it actually affects them? genuinely no hate as a 5'7 guy myself but i was wondering because this subreddit seems to be pretty negative.

two way prepositions

i understand that movement usually dictates whether the object will be accusative or dative is movement. but what happens when there is no movement involved? For example, when you say "glauben an" or "zweifeln an," the following noun is accusative even though there is no movement involved. I just don't understand how you know what the case the noun is that succeeds the two way preposition or if there are any rules to it.

What does adding "be" to the beginning of a verb do?

Like what's the difference between nutzen vs benutzen, schutzen vs beschutzen, or enden vs beenden?

FYI sorry if this is the wrong subreddit to ask question like this. it seems like this subreddit isn't really for grammar/vocab questions and more just tracking levels but i didn't know where else to ask this.

Tbh i dont think it makes much of a difference since its only 1 inch max, but i was just wondering when most people provide their height do they usually use their more generous morning estimate or shorter afternoon one. i measured 169cm in the morning and around 170cm in the afternoon. also do yall know how long it usually takes for you to lose your additional height throughout the day?

any good websites to practice with native speakers?

anyone know any good site where I could practice speaking/listening online with a native german speaker? I've heard of these sort of websites where one each person is trying to practice the other's language and teach each other their own, but does anyone personally know any good programs like that?

For short men, do you think broad shoulders are bad or not?

Im pretty short (5'7) and I have pretty broad shoulders. My dad says that wide shoulders make me look shorter than i already am, but other people say it makes you look buffer and more muscular even if you're not super strong. Do y'all got an opinion on it?
