How far in the past can you still use passato prossimo before having to use passato remoto?

Native English speaker trying to brush up on my passato remoto. In daily speech when is something remote with that it needs passato remoto? In formal, academic writing at what point does passato remoto become necessary? My professors told me that this also largely depends on region. So does this answer differ where you're from?

C'entra l'immigrazione in Spagna?

My Personal Sommelier

My Personal Sommelier is an iPhone app entirely in Italian, designed for Italian-speaking wine enthusiasts.

The app allows users to recognize wine labels from photos, create and organize a personal wine cellar, analyze photos of food menus and wine lists, and receive pairing suggestions.

I am looking specifically for Italian-speaking testers who can evaluate:

usability and clarity;
wine label recognition;
menu and wine list reading accuracy;
response speed;
the usefulness of the suggested pairings.

The app is currently available only in Italian. It is still in beta, and automatically generated results may contain inaccuracies.

Feedback can be submitted directly through the app or through TestFlight.

Thank you for helping me improve My Personal Sommelier.

Is the Italian culture of being well dressed disappearing?

Is the Italian culture of being well dressed disappearing?

I see online, and in stereotypes italians take great importance in how to dress,
but all the places I have been, the youth seem to all wear whatever the trend is in the USA, the black community here all seems to wear the same designer stuff with far too many logos and bright colours, the older people wear the same as any other european country.. and i’m not just talking about American tourists.

I don’t mean it as an affront, there is some very well dressed people, and i’m sure the people on here dress well, I just was expecting more from what people say online (especially people talking about immigrants dressing badly).

Does the stereotype just come from Americans who dress very casually?

One thing that has surprised me is your PLANTS and GARDENS though, some of the best kept parks and gardens I have seen up there with England and France!

Help! Going to Italy with my dog and someone just told me her name is a rude & vulgar Italian word 😳 Is this true? Her name is Topa

Topa is my sweet pup is coming to Italy with me for a few months and I’ll have her with me everywhere.

She was a foster I adopted and I kept the name the rescue organization gave her. Is that a bad word in Italian? I don’t want to be disrespectful or rude referring to my dog as a vulgar word everywhere. Google & translator are coming up with all different things so I need opinions of those who speak Italian please! I hate drawing attention to myself so need to figure this out and maybe shift her name to something similar but not vulgar… leaving in 2 weeks. Thank you!!!

Help an Australian reader discover indie & emerging authors from Italy !

Hi everyone! I’m an Australian reader who wants to discover more authors from Italy, especially writers I might not come across through the usual English-language bestseller lists.

I’m interested in all kinds of fiction — contemporary fiction, literary fiction, fantasy, YA fantasy, historical fiction, romance, speculative fiction, and anything else you think is worth reading.

I’m especially looking for indie authors, self-published authors, small-press writers, emerging writers, and newer authors. I’d love to discover people who are doing interesting things right now, rather than only the internationally famous names.

If you live in Italy, I’d love to know:

  • Who are you reading right now?
  • Which indie or emerging authors are you excited about?
  • Who has a new book coming out that I should know about?
  • Which authors do you think deserve a much bigger international audience?
  • Are their books available in English translation?
  • If there isn’t an English translation, please recommend them anyway! I’m still interested in discovering them.
  • Are there particular small publishers, literary magazines, bookshops, websites, or online communities where I can find more authors from italy?

I’d especially love recommendations from local readers, writers, booksellers, librarians, translators, and people involved in publishing.

I’m basically trying to build an international reading list and learn about books and authors I probably wouldn’t encounter otherwise.

So please tell me what you are reading and what you’re excited about. I’m genuinely curious and would love to discover some new favourite authors and support their work where I can.

Thank you!
— Jaylee

CERCO UN ARTISTA ITALIANO!

Ciao a tutti!

Nonno italian phrase question

Hi all, my nonno says “bene di” as “good for them” or “good for you” or good for anyone really. I was just wondering if it’s common to shorten the full phrase down and not include the subject, or is it just a him thing? We’re from Molise if that helps (yeah yeah molise non esiste ha ha). Thanks for all input!

if an italian-speaking community used a non-latin script exclusively, which script would be most plausible?

hypothetically, imagine a community that speaks italian but has always written italian exclusively in another script, for example arabic, hebrew, cyrillic, greek, hangul, cherokee, hanzi, etc;

which of these scripts would be the most plausible for such an italian-speaking community to realistically exist?

What is the Italian equivalent of the English idiom "to give them a run for their money?"

The English phrase means, "to make it difficult for someone to win a game or contest by trying hard and playing or performing well." Does Italian have any similar phrases?

Best Tour Choice in Italy for Senior Citizens

Ciao amici italiani, I plan on bring my parents who are in their late 70s to Italy next year, with the first priority of having them/us join the Papal audience. We are offered these tour options. Tour A would have been my choice (since it has been my dream to go to Cinque Terre), but the tour doesn't seem to be senior-friendly :( I need help with choosing the second choice. Which tour sounds like a good trip for seniors? My parents are easy to please (good food and scenic walks and enjoy visiting churches). And I'm hoping it won't be the last time I will be visiting Italy. So I will think of them first and foremost. And in case you're wondering, some of the tours have extended stays in Rome, because I wanted to make sure our trip covers the Wednesday schedule of Papal audience. Also we're going around spring. Grazie mille!

Canis dormiens numquam titillandus

Shopping recommendations for a girlie

Hi! I’m based in Brescia and although I’ve been here for about 10 months I haven’t needed anything until recently as I have a two week trip coming up. I’m very new to shopping in Europe and maybe this isn’t the right subreddit I’m not sure.

I’m happy to take the train to Bergamo, Milan, Florence etc for a good shopping day, rather than online-only brands.

Basically I’m looking for** **well-designed, slightly interesting contemporary fashion, timeless staples, anything good quality and I do love some bohemian. I’m open to both Italian and international brands.

I’d especially love recommendations for brands I might not know about, boutiques, Multi-brand stores, Vintage/second-hand shops or any particular streets/neighbourhoods worth wandering around.

Note: I’m from Nz so I know absolutely nothing about European brands !
