NTEU is Fighting to Protect RAs

NTEU’s stated goal in taking this action is to force agencies to ensure the reasonable accommodation process actually works as the law intends, which is to support federal employees with disabilities. Everyone deserves dignity on the job.

DAE: Hear Music in Background Noise (Auditory Pareidolia)

Does anyone else hear the faint sound of music when there isn’t any? The words and beat are too muted to identify… like justttttt barely out of reach. I’ve gone searching the house so many times trying to find the source only to realize (again) that it’s a brain glitch.

I just googled the situation and found this interesting:
A very common experience among neurodivergent individuals is hearing music embedded in a fan, a running shower, or a white noise machine. This is a psychological phenomenon called auditory pareidolia, where the brain tries to find patterns in random acoustic data. Because autistic brains often struggle to filter out background noise due to atypical auditory processing, the mind fills the sensory gap by shaping that raw noise into a recognizable melody.

Distinguishing Earworms (Endophasia) from Auditory Hallucinations
It is important to evaluate how you are "hearing" the music, as it generally falls into one of two categories: Internal Earworms: This is when a song is stuck in your head.

Does anyone else relate to this strange experience?

Teenage Dirtbag by Wheatus (2000)

So damn catchy. I find myself appreciating this song way more than I ever did as a teen. The lyrics don’t necessarily resonate but the nostalgic vibe hits just right.

What are the songs of your youth that you love more now in this phase of life than when they came out?

What’s going on with the forecasted NOFOs?

The posting dates keep getting pushed back. There are A LOT pending. It’s getting harder and harder to believe the explanation that it’s just a bottleneck and nothing more serious. Anyone know if something nefarious is afoot?

Hatred for Hierarchy

I am aware of social hierarchies, however I cannot fathom adjusting my behavior or interactions to cater to it. I don’t know how to talk myself into caring about it.

I know that my boss thinks I should be more deferential to him, but to me, he is just a regular person, and not one that I particularly like. I often don’t try to mask because it feels disingenuous and I pride myself in being authentic. Even just writing this, my sense of loathing is spiking because social dynamics about who is most important on this earth is total bologna.

As I’m sure you can imagine, this causes a lot of problems in my life. For example, my MIL was awful but my ex and friends told me not to let it bother me. They explained that everyone needs to interact with people they don’t like and I need to get over it. The thing is, I can’t… I don’t know how to mask. What you see is what you get. In fact, I sometimes worry that if I ever get pulled over by police and the officer is rude/unfair that I will struggle to be deferential and it could go badly. Growing up, my parents talk to me a lot about needing to be more respectful, and I could never figure it out. I am nice to those I like and my face is very transparent when I don’t like someone so I try to avoid them.

I see a lot of posts about masking and being unable to distinguish social hierarchies… I wonder if there are people in this community like me who see social hierarchies but cannot find the motivation to care about stuff like that or the masking skills to actually navigate it when society requires it? (Hopefully I’m not alone in struggling with these concepts)

The Correspondent by Virginia Evans

Wow, to be let into someone’s soul was both beautiful and heartbreaking. From the character development, to the plot, and creative telling through letters, the book blew me away and I didn’t see it coming. The Maryland references were also fun to recognize. I cannot recommend this book enough!
