Give it to me straight. Was this cheating?

My partner and I host games about once a month with usually around 15 players. Because we have so many different friends we invite, we mostly stick to TB as it's the easiest and every session we generally have a new player (or someone who hasn't played too often). Our last session was on my birthday so I chose a different script that had ogre, mez, politician, cult leader, pixie, and goon. We also watched a game where Edd watched the grim and the game was gardened.

This gave me a (selfish) idea. I asked my partner if, for my birthday, I could choose my role. He said yes, so I started thinking about what to be. Then I thought since we don't play other scripts too often (I'd love to play more), I want to try playing a different demon. So I told him I want to be the Pukka. I then (selfishly) had ANOTHER idea. I wanted to choose my evil team and all the good roles in the bag. I asked my partner and he (hesitantly) agreed. I chose Mez, Poisoner, and Assassin. I also put cult leader and pixie cult leader and removed spirit of ivory.

During the game my assassin and I coordinated to kill the goon by turning him evil. We made both the cult leaders evil and executed them (I had grim access because of the birthday boy rules). In the end, evil had more votes than good did because my partner also added 3 travellers who were all evil (I chose their alignment)

Was this cheating?

Can we remove all the mods?

They are not cheaters or stream snipers nor do they enable cheaters so we should remove them all.

After all, Daddy Ben said that the head mod has to be a cheater who is their friend, and I don't think the head mod here is a cheater or daddy ben's friend; so we should remove all the mods here.

Also no judgement please, because as Daddy Ben said, "he that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone"

Homebrew townsfolk: BMR Balloonist

Ability text: Each night choose a player, you die even if dead. [+0 to +3 outsiders]

BMR is very good sided so I decided to make this townsfolk that dies every night so that the evil team can mask death count.

Metas you absolutely hate?

What are some metas you absolutely hate that have become gospel in the Twitch games, the online community, or your in-person game group?

It could be things that people agree are universally "good" or things STs do every time they play a script, etc.

Did I crash out or overreact?

I recently had an awful experience on the app where I was the spy and learned I was part of the noble ping night 1 and the poisoned chef got sober info (a 0).

So I decided I’m gonna play for fun because the town was stacked with empath, librarian, ravenkeeper and slayer and there was no way I could use my info and undo the noble ping.

I hard claimed soldier and I joke nominated the virgin after talking to the previous game’s witch and used witch check as accusation. The imp sniped the UT that night (I never talked to the imp).

The town concluded I was the evil and everyone refused to talk to me once I was executed and two people accepted my chat request only to shout at me to not ping them.

Even in public square everyone just ignored me and when I nominated for the exile of the traveler by saying it is a bad idea to have a traveler in final few because that allows evil to keep them alive for final 3 and it messes the strategy (I was genuinely playing for the town at this point since I never learned the alignment of the traveler when I got the grim night 1). The town refused and said they wouldn’t do it only because I was the one making the nomination.

The game before this, someone told me that I should be executed because an Indian doesn't belong on the town so I was already on the edge, but I ended up snapping at the ST for allowing the town to act like a bunch of meanies (I privately told the ST and the town that them refusing to talk to me was unfun) and I ended up blocking the players who shouted at me.

Did I overreact and should I apologize to the ST if I run into them next time?

Edit: Thanks for the perspective, I think I played poorly and get the previous bad experiences get to me, I'll apologise to the ST because they had no control.

AITAH for this interaction?

So I was recently running a sushi trouble brewing game with boffin and marionette and traveller. The traveller started as a good traveller, but when they decided to go to the bathroom I treated them as a new instance of a traveller and made them the evil apprentice boffin with virgin ability.

Because the marionette ability says you think you are a townsfolk but you are not, I decided to kill the Marionette when they nominated the Imp day 2. Then the traveller went to the bathroom again and I made them the apprentice baron and changed 1 townsfolk to ogre and 1 to plague doctor.

Later when the traveller stepped to get a beer I made them the poisoner (there was already one in play).

In the end the evil team one (all evil players except marionette survived).

The good team was mad but I told them they had so many info roles, such as the librarian who learned the spy and the actual virgin as the recluse. The washerwoman who learned the spy and night 1 poisoned pixie as the undertaker (the role pixie saw), and the investigator who saw the recluse and the traveller as the scarlet woman.

They also had an empath next to the virgin and the mayor who got 0s all game until they died.

AITA?

Just spectated/shadowed a game where the good threw the game away

It was a custom TB based script with a mario, oracle and ogre and lunatic added instead of butler.

The virgin decided to claim ogre (???) which allowed the actual evil ogre to claim investigator and paint two trusted townsfolks as scarlet woman (the poisoned chef and the almost always sober empath next to the ogre).

The virgin was never proced, and the mario saw drunk info the town assumed was good (I don’t think the mario ever learned their token, they ragequit the moment they learned evil won before the grim reveal)

The lunatic learned that his ability wasn’t working early on, but he only told it to his “minion” who was actually the evil imp.

One of the minions was bluffing as an empath or FT and shared absolutely 0 info with the town, yet was trusted as townsfolk.

In the end that recluse and evil made it to final 4, at which point he died and it was evil final 3 with the mario who nominated other minion and got them executed lol.

I guess it shows the importance of actually claiming your role and sharing info and not following the fun meta that twitch and yt games do where people just lie all the fucking time and go off of social reads.

Edit: Lunatic not recluse

Sinking kills as the demon

So in a recent BMR game, I bluffed as the Gossip (I was the Pukka with Godfather and Assassin as minions) and decided to strategically sink my kills each night, and used the deaths at night to paint a Zombuul world where I was the Gossip and my gossip was killing players at night while the Zombuul couldn't kill because of the executions during the day.

My "gossip" and sunk kills managed to convince everyone that I was the gossip, and then I was basically "sailor drunk" after night 2 because the town was convinced that my gossip was extremely powerful and was killing good players. I decided to play along and stopped gossiping and used the sunk kills to paint a Zombuul world, but half the town was confused between Zombuul and Po charges.

I used the executions and sunk kills to paint a Zombuul world, so I (and one of my minions, I didn't know which one at that time) managed to get into the final 3 because the town was convinced I was good, and they never executed me.

On the last day, they nominated the townfolks, put them on the block, then nominated the minion, and we all used our votes (and dead votes) to execute the minion. I learned during the grim reveal that my minions were a godfather (who helped me confirm as Gossip at night 2 after the Goon got himself executed) and an assassin who didn't get to use their ability because they were executed day 2.

My question is: was this a good strategy? How viable is this with other demons or other scripts and minions?

Was the storyteller right to do this?

Last-week in a custom script 11 player game (we just added Pukka and Marionette to TB), the storyteller made a decision that upset the good team.

The original drunk in the game was the Undertaker, but the Poisoner chose them on night 1, so the Storyteller made the Empath the new Drunk. Then the Pukka chose the Empath, so the ST made the Fortune Teller the new Drunk. Now, in general, I dislike Story Tellers who decide to mess with tokens and change the Drunk, but they changed the Drunk twice this game and made a lot of good characters Drunk because the Evil team decided to poison them. Needless to say, a lot of our information in the game was wrong, and the good team lost.

Do you think the Storyteller was correct in doing this?

Convincing the Demon they are the lunatic in a Lunatic/Mastermind game

So I was watching a video of BOTC game where Alejo attempts a strategy where they try to convince a new player that they aren't the demon, but instead the lunatic.

The idea is that the Demon would then read as socially good to the town, and then if executed, they won't be re-executed during the mastermind's extra day. Is this a viable strategy, especially with experienced players?

A script I made for the group I started playing with recently

I've only been a storyteller in a few TB games for new players/with my friends, so I'm not sure how good the script is from an ST perspective.
