Living will
General question for those who may know, what can we do to advocate for our pets worst case scenario? I'm in the US, plan to live until 100... but don't really have other assets, just my pets that I would feel better designating they do not go to family. Even though their contact #'s are an emergency contact you might say. Thank you!
Dog meet-and-greet
What dog parks have a separate fenced in area for small dogs or another location? I was planning to meet to adopt a rescue dog who would be coming across the peace arch crossing but now live out of town so am looking for a possible meeting place. Yes there are many dogs who need and deserve homes in all local shelters and rescues. Thank you
Probably not a salivary gland infection
Over a week ago I did self massage on my jaw and I maybe pushed too firmly. Anyway it triggered inflammation which has led to increasingly abhorrent jaw pain, a slightly swollen gland, pain swallowing, disturbing my sleep, etc. I have plenty of saliva and floss daily. I went to urgent care on a Sunday, should've just went to the ER because let's just say the pain is one of the worst I've experienced with no drugs. So they prescribed antibiotics (which I don't do well with) and an ENT referral which won't schedule me until September?! Started the RX today so hopefully that helps for whatever reason but anyway. Ouch. 😭
Foster to adopt
I am doing a foster-to-adopt a great male dog who is around the same age and size as my resident male dog. He was recently neutered. My dog is over-correcting during outside play. Also twice on leash for similar reasons. Without writing a book here, how am I supposed to know if it's the right fit in the time that I have? How do I know what will fade in time? Both wonderful in so many ways but I don't want to be selfish. Just plan on monitoring making note of improvements or not for now.
Behavior
So doing a foster-to-adopt for a dog before he was even up online. He was just neutered a few days ago. Reportedly around the same age as my dog, who was neutered as a puppy and typically loves to play... both have a lot going for them truly. My current dog did play with an unneutered male a few times a long time ago and did not mind. He has had what I considered to be a bad experience but it was just another dog (siblings) who chased him and he just ran away because they didn't lay or back off, showing over the top appeasement and licking in his face a lot. I haven't allowed any further interaction with them after trying again because they need to be recalled off to learn how to respect boundaries but anyway. He is now a bit older and it seems like the hormones may have something to do with it idk, they're great inside on walks and sniffing but with chasing or wrestling, he seems to go overboard with his signals... the foster listens well but if my dog keeps running he'll keep chasing. If running stops, he backs off. I've learned a lot through reading and self-study but I'm so tired in general so would like to hear whatever you share. It's frustrating because if that is why I know it can take quite some time but ultimately it is up to my current pets.
Why whenever I tell people, including the Dr... that I otherwise have went to bed around the same time my whole life and used to sleep through the night etc. but am struggling due to being woke up by other people (literally alarms and loud doors, etc.), they suggest any other reason? Now I'm going to try dementia causing drugs, I rarely even take tylenol..but I'm so tired!
I've had experience applying with several rescues, got my first dog from one a few years ago. Now I've ran into more than one where I had done my own research, submitted videos, etc etc. One said sounds perfect but then they were super hesitant, shy dog I sort of get it but then another they responded with more info, the dog was just returned and said I was a great fit... then no reply to meet and they're posting for more applicants. Like are you trying to get them adopted orr? I'm about to give up, not on shelters but on rescues... I've had a crate empty, waiting, and ready. Thankfully my dog isn't getting let down but I'm tired.
