Made $1K revenue by killing the daily streak

https://preview.redd.it/8ksxg9s406ah1.png?width=1886&format=png&auto=webp&s=d6d73d9d329d183ce37639366826d687202b355b

As the screenshot shows, my app just crossed the $1K revenue mark since its launch.

I realized the productivity market is completely obsessed with daily streaks.

But adulthood does not run on 24-hour cycles. You water the indoor plants when the soil is dry. You change the air filter every few months. You give the dog her medicine when it is time.

When you use a standard habit app for these things and miss a day, it gives you a red ring of failure. It creates completely unnecessary guilt for chores that are naturally irregular.

So I built SinceWhen.

It is a simple days-since tracker that acts as the exact opposite of a habit app.

It just tracks how long it has been since you last did a specific task. No streaks, no daily check-ins, no guilt.

To make it actually work for messy chores, I added deep Siri and Shortcuts support. When your hands are full of dog shampoo, you just say "Hey Siri, log the dog meds" and it is recorded.

It learns your natural rhythm and gently reminds you when a chore is due, instead of forcing a rigid schedule.

Positioning the app as a guilt-free, anti-streak tracker really resonated with people who are tired of guessing when they last did household maintenance.

I stuck NFC tags all over my house. Now my chores track themselves via Apple Shortcuts.

My brain is terrible at remembering irregular timelines. I could never remember when I last changed the AC filter, when I last gave the dog her flea pill, or when I last descaled the coffee machine.

I tried standard habit trackers, but they all want you to do things every single day. If you don't, you break the streak. I just needed a simple system to tell me exactly how many days it had been since I last did a specific chore.

So, I built a completely hands-free tracking system.

Here is the setup:

  • I bought a pack of cheap, blank NFC stickers off Amazon.
  • I placed them strategically around the house: one inside the air filter grate, one on the dog's medicine bottle, one on the watering can.
  • I set up Apple Shortcuts to trigger a log whenever I tap my phone to a specific tag.

The missing piece was where to actually store this data. Apple Reminders is built for future to-dos, not past logs. A spreadsheet was too clunky.

I ended up building a dedicated iOS app called SinceWhen to act as the brain for this setup.

When I tap the NFC tag on the dog's medicine, Shortcuts instantly sends a command to SinceWhen. The app logs the exact date and time in the background. I don't even have to open the app. If my hands are full, I can also just say, "Hey Siri, log the dog meds in SinceWhen."

The coolest part is that the app learns my natural rhythm. After a few logs, it figures out the average gap between my chores and quietly nudges me when the AC filter is due to be changed again.

AppStore: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/sincewhen-days-since-tracker/id6759450144

Edit:
Steps to set up the NFC and shortcuts to log:

  1. First, create an event in the app, say "Water plants"
  2. Next, go to the shortcuts app and create a shortcut. Tap the top right(+) button, choose "SinceWhen" -> "Log a selected event" -> and select "Water plants". You can name the shortcut "Log Water Plants".
  3. Next goto "Automation" tab in the shortcuts app -> Tap the top right(+) button, scroll down to NFC -> Scan your NFC -> Select your shortcut "Log Water Plants". That's it.

Whenever you tap that NFC, "Water plants" will get logged in the SinceWhen app. You can see the insights and your rhythm from that app.

$722 from 65 users who absolutely refuse to pay for another subscription

As you can see in the screenshot, I made $722 from 65 customers strictly through non-subscription purchases over the last three months(since the launch of the app).

I built an app called SinceWhen. It is a days-since tracker for the irregular chores of real life, like changing the AC filter or giving the dog her medicine. Standard habit apps force you into daily streaks, which just creates guilt when you miss a day. My app does the exact opposite by simply tracking the time since you last did something.

When it came to monetizing, I knew people had massive subscription fatigue. I have monthly and yearly plans, but I made sure to add a higher-priced, one-time lifetime purchase option to catch the holdouts.

Here are the core things that get them to upgrade:

  • Deep Siri and Shortcuts support so they can log messy tasks completely hands-free.
  • Smart intervals that learn their natural rhythm instead of forcing rigid daily schedules.
  • The subscription tiers include Family Sharing for households, while the lifetime tier is strictly for a single Apple ID, which naturally segments the audience based on their needs.

Offering that one-time payment caught all the highly engaged users who would have otherwise bounced at the sight of a recurring fee.

Here is the app if you want to see how I handle the positioning:

Every app tells you what to do next. I built one that just remembers what you did last

Standard habit apps are built on guilt. Miss a day, break the streak.

But real life doesn't run on daily streaks.

You water your plants when the soil is dry. You change your AC filter every few months. You give the dog her flea medicine when it's time.

I couldn't find a simple app that does this, so I built SinceWhen.

It is a "days since" tracker designed for the irregular, messy routines of actual life.

Instead of demanding daily check-ins, it actually learns your natural rhythm. It tracks your history and gently nudges you only when it predicts you are due again.

I also just added full Siri support. When your hands are full of dog shampoo, just say, "Hey Siri, log the dog's medicine."

It is 100% private. No accounts to create, zero data tracking, just silent iCloud sync.

You can download it and track your first few events completely free.

I built "anti-streak" habit tracker and it just crossed 1.2K downloads in 2 months

If it helps offload your mental math, there is a one-time lifetime plan. Besides the lifetime plan, there are also monthly and yearly subscriptions that include Family Sharing.

Have you ever stood in the store wondering if your AC filter is two or six months old?

Standard habit apps want you to do things every single day. But real life doesn't work like that.

You don't need a daily streak for watering your plants, changing the oil, or giving the dog her medicine. You just need a simple log of when you last did it.

So I built SinceWhen. It's a "days since" tracker designed for your actual rhythm.

Log hands-free

Comes with full Siri and Shortcuts support. Hands full? Just say, "Hey Siri, log the dog's medicine."

Smart Intervals

It actually learns your natural rhythm. It looks at your history and gently nudges you when a task is due again.

Think about the tasks that never make it to your daily to do list.

  • When did you last change your toothbrush?
  • Put a fresh blade on your razor?
  • Open a new bottle of shampoo?

Your brain constantly burns background energy trying to remember irregular life maintenance.

I built SinceWhen to completely offload that mental burden. It is a frictionless iOS app that builds a simple timeline for random events.

You log a task in two seconds using Home Screen widgets or Siri, and forget about it. The app calculates your intervals and gives you a nudge when you are due.

By tracking these intervals over time, it figures out your actual habits and predicts your next due date automatically.

From a business perspective, I went with a straightforward one-time lifetime purchase. Users instantly get the value of paying once to solve a recurring annoyance.

That model has brought in 60 paying customers and $526 in revenue.

Moving forward, the lifetime option is staying, but I am introducing a subscription tier in the next update. This will support Apple's Family Sharing, allowing a whole household to unlock the app with a single subscription while keeping everyone's tracking data completely separate.

If anyone has navigated adding a subscription tier next to an existing lifetime plan, I would love to hear how you handled the messaging.

Hey everyone,

I recently launched my iOS app SinceWhen. It is a simple timeline tracker for life events. I went with a one-time paid model, and it just crossed $526 in revenue with 60 customers.

I am super happy with the conversion rate so far, but I am hitting a wall with ASO.

Even though people are paying for the app and using it, getting them to actually leave a rating or a written review on the App Store feels impossible. I currently have almost 5 reviews, which I know is hurting my organic ranking.

I am trying to figure out the best timing to trigger the Apple review prompt. I do not want to annoy users right after they pay or right when they open the app.

For those of you who have apps out there, how are you getting your initial reviews? What is the trigger point that actually converts a happy user into a 5 star rating?

If anyone else is stuck in this same boat right now, I would love to know how you are handling it.
