Folks, what are some subtle changes you started doing to save time during workout?

it's been couple of weeks in the gym (restarted after few months).

my aim was to learn from my past mistakes and try to smoothly integrate working out along with my usual lifestyle and other commitments. however, gym is really eating alot of my time during the day, sometimes upwards of 2 to 2:30 hours. this includes the commute (8-10mins), bit of treadmill in the starting, stretching, warmups and then the main lifting. i don't understand how my gym sessions get so freakish long. this is NOT sustainable at all.

i thought i was either overdoing the sets / exercises, or wasting too much different sets. today i tried to control both. hit chest / triceps / shoulders, just two exercises for each muscle group. timed my sets, but couldn't notice any difference. the intensity wasn't even that hard that it should feel like after literal 2 hours in the gym. i'm not training for olympia or competitive or whatever, it REALLY shouldn't take more than 1 hour but what the fuck i don't know.

this really is affecting my other routines like studying and chores. i'm a runner who started running, and wanted to continue running, but the gym takes so much time and i don't feel like going out of the house again later in the day for a run. i've been trying to wrap up lifting quickly so i can do a quick cardio session post-workout, but again the workout takes so much time that i've to rush home once it gets over. so my cardio is really getting a hit and i'd hate to lose all my running progress.

i see alot of such frequent posts about two groups of people: those who also end up wasting two hours, and those experienced ones who finish it swiftly within 45mins to 1hour. maybe the reason could be that being a beginner, i take too much time to settle in during the exercise because i'm always trying to fix my form. also it's so crowded 5-7pm, so that i always have to improvise my pre-made workout routine to adapt according to the availability of an exercise / machine.

nonetheless, i thought of asking here because there might be experienced folks here who might have dealt with this problem and have figured out their own ways to figure it out.

No Vocational Courses in Vocational College anymore lmao

for those of you unaware, cvs (college of vocational studies), which is in south campus close to sbsc, has removed almost 6 vocational courses this academic cycle. this includes courses such as marketing, office management, retail, human resource etc etc.

only one vocational course remains: tourism. the reason cited was low enrollment & lack of faculty.

additions of 5 new ba prog courses. includes couple of combinations such as econ + commerce, econ + maths, commerce + comp sci, and so on and so forth.

personally, don't see much major negative repercussions of this. the courses removed were largely quite unproductive. inclusion of new prog courses might improve the crowd a little bit.

will the 16 metro stations remain closed or will they open tomorrow morning?

i'm concerned with lok kalyan metro station where my office is, as it's one of the stations impacted.

so yesterday afternoon, lok kalyan was temporarily closed but it was open this morning (and i used it), but then it was shut down again in the afternoon along with 15 other.

according to official DMRC tweet, "the 16 metro stations will remain closed until further announcement"

so will they reopen these stations again tomorrow morning, or shall i assume that it will stay closed and look for alternatives.

Morgan Stanley visited SR?

hoping anyone from sr could vet this.

came across profiles of few sr final year folks. apparently morgan stanley visited the campus, not for placements but rather SIP.

from my understanding, this is first in past few years. couple of years back, morgan stanley used to visit cbs / sr and pick single digit folks, but then stopped because i didn't see the trend going on post 2022.

2022 was a crazy year. for both tech & non-tech. jpmc visited too apparently, and they never hire from ug in india.

p.s. i can totally be wrong because most of my knowledge comes from linkedin or acquaintances from these colleges.

Imposter Syndrome at Internship is hollowing me from inside.

hi folks, just a workplace related rank. can go through if you're experienced it in past, or just tired of all the spam posts by aspirants.

started my summer internship couple of weeks back once got done with endsems. receiving the offer letter was an overwhelming experience, after dozens of rejections, that too from an extremely reputed organisation that I had been eyeing since first year of college.

Life finally felt good and worth living, for about 3 days.

At first it was great, but quickly i realised how much i felt like i shouldn't be part of this room. being a well-known and high-paying firm, most of the folks working here are pretty successful with impressive academic pedigree (tier - 1 UGs / IIMs / ISB / MBAs abroad). even my co-interns in the team are from CBS, SRCC, DTU, LSR & some IIM IPM guy. i, on the other hand, am just some random undergrad from a very lowly college which no one has really heard of, and somehow made it here. Initially I thought this was awesome, since being from an incredibly trashy college with not-so-good crowd, i valued the opportunity of working with ambitious and better folks. how quickly i began to realise how much i struggled socially. Felt like someone smashing my ego straight on the floor within the first week itself. Interactions are difficult, and corporate etiquette is complicated.

Folks here are nice & welcoming, sometimes offering snacks but I never have the audacity to accept and always end up declining, to walk up to someone, to step out of my bubble, to engage in a simple non-work coffee talk, while I see other co-interns with no problem in casually chatting with full-timers. The Imposter Syndrome I feel sitting at my desk is insane. It's tough for me not to stay uncomfortable all the time, to make eye contact with someone.

It's a pretty shitty feeling.

i just feel like staying in my desk all the time. Absolutely hate the idea of "networking", those forced small transactional talks, those morning coffee chats. But i cant help but wonder what am i missing? there's so much to learn from everyone here, so many things that can go right, but so many things that can go wrong as well.

or maybe i'm looking at this wrongly. maybe it's not imposter syndrome, but rather just crippling inferiority complex. i've been dealing with this for past couple of years. my high school experience was quite unfortunate. college felt liberating, because talking to people suddenly became option. i thought i've an option whom to interact with or not. socialising felt like a burden, so i didnt do any of that, minded my own business and now its hurting me severely.

feel like i'm in a shell and its getting tougher to get out of it day by day.

corporate draining life, looking for guidance to manage it

hi folks,

started a full-time internship last month, and it's my first exposure to corporate. so far, the 9-5 has been brutal, and i'm freaking out just by the thought of being like this for the next 40 years of life. thought of putting it out here to get some meaningful advice.

9-5 is more like 7-7 for me, due to the long commute hours in delhi ncr. travelling in public transport is so physically exhausting. for the past couple of weeks, my routine has been incredibly monotonous. get up in the morning, get dressed up, get food done, leave, come back exhausted by 7 or sometimes even 7:30 on days when i've to leave office late. by the time i reach back home, i've no energy left to do anything meaningful for myself. just get done with food, any pending office work, and get to the bed. Saturdays & Sundays are a breath of relief, but they go by so quickly in a very unproductive manner.

because i'm still a student, there're so many things that i'm concerned with alongside this 9-5, especially prep for masters entrances next year, but i'm finding it incredibly difficult to squeeze in time.

even fitness has been hit. i used to love running, but now i can only find time for it on weekends. i'm still struggling to choose a time for myself to hit the gym and workout, a time in which i can be consistent. mornings dont work, because they require me to wake up early, which further requires me to sleep early which isn't possible on most of the days. after coming back from work? pre or post dinner?

wrote this in a very unstructured manner, hopefully someone can help me figure this out and help me get out of this hole.

Why is the BJP so adamant about not getting Dharmendra Pradhan to resign?

In the past couple of months, there have been many instances of failures within competitive exams. The outrage has gone beyond social media discussions, with nation wide ground protests going on. CJP has protested in atleast 5-6 different cities, ever since their first one in Jantar Mantar. But it's all been fruitless so far.

Although Dharmendra Pradhan resigning won't resolve anything for the crisis in education in India, which is fundamentally broken, since he is not the cause but rather the symptom of the system, but atleast there will be an accountability factor within ministers. So far, I don't see him resigning anytime soon. This is India. Outrage is selective and is equivalent to modern human attention span. Few months and this will all die down, until another competitive exam next year.

Why is the BJP protecting Pradhan when kicking him out will solve so many problems?

My understanding based on general observations of political landscape is that BJP favours loyalty over competency. This is very clear if you understand the trend of how BJP chooses its chief ministers. Examples could be Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh etc. They don't know whether they will find another Pradhan who would a convenient puppet minister.

Clarification from IIMB

still find it hard enough to believe that IIMB revoked a student's seat just because of batch size constraints. it has never happened before, and doubt institutions like bangalore will do that.

the linkedin post shared by the friend didn't clarify alot of things either. if it was really genuine, he could have shared the screenshot of the email or anything.

what dental care method do you folks follow?

there is an abundance of contradictory information on the internet, so thought of asking here to clarify few things. i've ignored my teeth for way too long.

how many times do you floss? i've a tendency to floss a bit after every snack to remove any chunky food parts stuck between teeth. although i'm unsure whether flossing that frequently is bad for gums in the long-run.

do you brush pre or post breakfast? i usually brush first thing in the morning, but apparently alot of folks brush after their breakfast, and i never understood the rationale behind that.

do you use a mouthwash before or after brushing? the manufacturer says after brushing, but won't that remove the fluoride from the brushing? or is it better to simply use a mouthwash a different time altogether? like maybe after lunch.

what's the correct flow? floss, brush, mouthwash OR floss, mouthwash, brush

thanks!

sbsc pulled bcg??

saw the linkedin post of their placecomm. they pulled bcg. pretty crazy. even bcn (bain backend)

not sure about the exact role. don't know whether it's just apprenticeship or is it the normal associate role which they offer in other ug colleges.

had the misfortune of coming across this linkedin post about a joke of a startup. guy thinks du is harvard and apparently it's the 2000s where folks really need "exclusivity" in their social media. "elite" colleges, including the likes of drc, jmc (big joke). in all these colleges, only the top 3-4 courses demand some amount of dedication; everyone knows about the quality of rest of the courses. but whatever floats their boat 🤷‍♂️

rejected north campus months ago and no bit of regret at all.

anyways it's been a very fucked up week and i'm just here on reddit to ease off my mind and vent.

wishing for the failure of this startup!
