You try to hike but your mastiff likes to "Ghost walk", "tree trance", weed walk". 🤣

We are always just like, "Victoria is stuck in a tree again".

Boundary trail on St Helens in Washington State and the lake next door

My son went off to boot camp but we had some adventures before he left. This was our very last one (last week). We did 20 miles on Boundary trail and a little on the trail at the lake next door.

A 7 mile run and chasing the frisbee and he takes a short nap 😀. Don't be fooled, he is ready for chaos with any noise or movement

Number V

I have had him 7 months and he is still not cuddly 😭.

Maybe when he is a lil older. One can hope.

Number V is absolutely obsessed with his Boerboel siblings. Especially Victoria. Victoria has a high energy level and loves to wrestle. Number V hates his Chihuahua brother. They just fight and get on each other's nerves.

Victoria and Number V cooling off after a run. Victoria went 4 miles and Number V went 7.

We have had lots of rain, wind, flooding and cool weather. All of a sudden we have sun and heat.

I am a little disappointed in myself, I planned to run 20 miles but only got 13. The humidity made breathing hard and I don't think I'm recovered from all of my other activities. I am mad at myself but at least the pups got some exercise.

Lil man Rodent enjoying the sun. We have had rain, cold and wind. Today we have some heat and Rodent is loving it

These two absolutely HATE each other but I caught this rare moment

I have had Rodent the Chihuahua for about 9 years. He is my oldest dog. I had another Chihuahua who passed away in December. Rodent was bonded to him and his not been welcoming to Number V the Rat terrier. They both sleep in bed with me and every now and then they might accidentally touch each other while sleeping.

Other than that they just don't get along.

I did! My takeaway

I had a blast during this event. I am glad I got to do it with my son who is leaving for the military in one month.

I started with a 50k because I didn't know how my body would do. My son did the 50 mile. We were able to run the first part together about 15.5 miles. Once we got to 17 miles and I had not turned around yet, I realized the course was marked wrong. We both ran an extra 2 miles.

I went out way too quickly. I knew I shouldn't I really really tried to run slow but I clearly didn't.

I was doing amazing for about 18 miles. That extra 2 miles mentally messed me up. I kept running until about 28 miles and I had to walk/jog.

I have had 4 knee surgeries but it was hip and hamstrings that became the problem.

I started nutrition early on but I definitely feel like some minor tweaks need to be made. Also- gels suck when your body is actually going distances.

Lastly- put your stuff in a bag before putting it in your running vest. My stuff was soaked with sweat.

Wanted a cute photo of Rodent my Chihuahua. My dogs would not cooperate. I got one good one and there are 2 extra pups in the photo

They would not let Rodent take a photo alone. I believe they thought they would get treats if they sat but no one would look at the camera.

Very first ultra

Hi everyone

I am 3 days away from my first Ultra. It's a shorter one (50k). I'm going with my son (he is going 50miles), we run the first 15.5 miles together.

I have electrolyte powder, pre workout powder, 2 big bottles of power aid, bottles of water, fizzy water, marshmallows, gummy bears, granola and granola bars, Twinkies, pickles, tuna, bagels, baked lays potato chips, apples, chap stick, Advil, Pepto bismal, glide, k-tape and wipes.

We both have vests, hats, shoes, and plan to utilize drop bags at aid stations.

I have a chair, change of clothes, cooler with water, beer, protein drinks, and a massage gun for "The After".

I have crewed at back yard ultras in the pasf but I have never run one myself. This is an out and back type course.

Can you think of anything I am missing or any advice?

Thank you

Posted my lil girls first time in the trailer a few months back. I mentioned training to ride. Anyway, she is doing great.

Not actually riding her yet as she is still too young. Just getting her used to the feeling of weight up there. So mounting a couple times. Teaching her to turn and yield to the pressure (on the ground). Basic commands like forward movent and backing. I am also getting her used to traveling places and being in unfamiliar places.

My boy Number V went 8 miles today. The farthest he has ever run. I went 16 and I honestly think he could have done more.

We came home and he immediately tried to attack a basketball. When that didn't work he got a frisbee and wanted to play fetch. I don't want to overwork him so I'm taking it slow with him but I should have let him go at least one more mile. I do have another dog that likes to run and today they were switching off and on. Most of the time they run together.

Rodent is 8 years old. He is my oldest pup. He might not be the biggest or strongest of the group but he is smart and has a lot of heart.
