Maybe probably not hot take about Rhys
ACOTAR would have been a much more compelling series if Rhys was left as a “bad guy” or at least morally gray.
I feel like SJM’s softening of Rhys in ACOMAF was a mistake. The argument of “he’s not a bad guy! That’s all pretend and he’s actually good!” Doesn’t really hold up. There’s still obvious moral issues going on in the night court. How is he so crazy powerful, not to mention his IC, but can’t stop the mutilation of young girls? He can’t make a society accepting of queer love? I just find it kind of falls flat and he ends up looking like just any other man not caring about the vulnerable while loudly saying he does.
It would have been more interesting to see Feyre learn to love him, flaws and all. And/Or see him slowly transform and learn to “do better”. I’d almost rather see her seep into darkness.
We don’t even have to get into the character assassination of Tamlin to try to bolster Rhys.
