Thoughts on using a Colt Walker/Dragoon holster for an 8in Anaconda?
Recently came into an 8in Anaconda and am absolutely in love with it. However, I realize how very impractical it is. Mostly a BBQ gun. That said, I’d still like a more convenient way to pack it around and maybe go on short hikes and such with it that is better than lugging the case along.
Most of the holsters available for the anaconda are very pricey, and aren’t even really what I want. I don’t need a crazy chest rig, all I want is a simple flap style holster that can protect it a bit on the ATV or when out and about. The quotes I’ve gotten to build this range anywhere from 150-350, which seems out of line for my situation.
This brought me to the available reproduction Colt Walker/Dragoon holsters. They are essentially exactly what I want, and run somewhere from 60-100 dollars. Here is what I was thinking
Both have an OAL ~14-15in
Both have the width of a 6 shot 44 cal cylinder
Both are ~6in in height
The loading lever means an approximately similar barrel thickness as compared to the full lug on the anaconda.
Here is my thought, pickup whatever the best looking full grain flap type walker/dragoon holster I can find, steam it well, and spent a couple afternoons jamming the anaconda into it with some leather conditioner to get it to mold to the specificity’s of the more modern revolver, and just roll with that.
Will this work, or is this a pipe dream? Anyone have further suggestions or feedback? Also open to other holster recommendations. I just thought that since you’re not *really* going to be carrying an 8in revolver all the time, maybe going the “horse pistol” route is a good bet.
Please leave me your input, thank you.
