Marrying from back home

I’m wondering whether any of you have married from back home before? I’m talking, you were born and raised in the west. You’ve only gone back home around a handful of times. You’ve never lived there. And, whilst you do speak Somali pretty fluently, you aren’t able to express certain things in Somali as well as you do in English.

So, I’m wondering whether any of you have done it and been successful? I’d like to hear from women more than men.

32F Somali/British

I’m F32 years old/170cm.

  1. I would be interested in someone between 29-37 (possible slightly younger or older but it all depends)
  2. I am in the gulf. I would prefer someone who is either a European/western citizen and lives either in the gulf or the UK, since that’s where I’ve moved from. I would happily move back to the UK for the right person. Not interested in North America, unfortunately.
  3. I’m Somali (Somaliland, specifically if you want to know), and definitely prefer to marry a Somali man. I think it is much harder to marry someone from a different culture.
  4. Single, never married. No children.
  5. My ideal timeline would be 2026, lol. I don’t have time to waste.
  6. I know it sounds super obvious, but kindness! A man who fears Allah and wants to actively improve. Who understands that we are here for a reason and wants to attain jannah together. Someone who is considerate, attentive, generous, responsible and emotionally intelligent.
  7. I would say I’m practicing (fardh), abaya/hijab, Qur’an class. But I’m a human being, and I have my own ups and downs with my iman. May Allah keep us all steadfast.
  8. Postgraduate degree. I think a degree is nice, but not a requirement if you work hard and are intellectually curious.
  9. I work in education.
  10. I would loveee children and would love the opportunity to become a mother. A huge undertaking, but I have always wanted it.
  11. I like reading, visiting/seeing new places, listening to podcasts. I do go out but I’m also a huge homebody.

If this stands out to you, please let me know in shaa Allah. I go through stages of giving up on this arduous journey but I can’t seem to give up completely, and perhaps that’s a sign I should keep going.

A Question: Fertility and Periods

I’m sorry if this isn’t the right sub. Mods, let me know and I’ll delete it.

I have a question: I’m 32F and recently, I’ve noticed that my cycles are a lot longer than usual. The last one was 44 days. In October, it was 53. I have never missed a regular period since I was 11 years old, so obviously this made me stop and wonder a bit. Could this sort of thing have any bearing on fertility? I’m on the ‘older’ side already, but my little sister has been struggling to conceive recently too so it made me wonder. My mother, grandmother, aunts and female cousins have never had any issues. I’m not married so not currently trying but I’m thinking about the future. I cannot afford to freeze eggs, and I suppose my NHS doctor will just tell me it’s normal, or at best, send me for bloods.

For the record, I really don’t think I’ve been stressed much recently. I’ve been off work for a month now and I don’t think my weight (75kg/170cm) has fluctuated much either.

Spent most of my life thinking anxiety wasn’t real…

I used to think anxiety was just something people said when they couldn’t face up to their responsibilities or be functioning adults, but in the last 14 months or so, I think I may just be experiencing it myself?

Work and my personal life can stress me out, but I’m usually someone who can get a hold of that. However, I got a serious infection a while back and the doctor told me it was probably stress and anxiety induced. Now I can’t unsee it. My heart is beating rapidly at least 3/7 days a week and last night, I didn’t get any sleep at all. I was always an overthinker, but now those thoughts have absolutely spiralled. people say you should just keep yourself busy but omg how? I can’t escape it. I just want a normal heart rate and not to triple question everything.

Gum grafts/Pinhole Surgery UK

Hi everyone, I’m wondering if someone could help me out a bit.

a few years ago, I was going through a very stressful time and ended up getting ANUG. I was sick for a week, on antibiotics but got better. I started seeing a hygienist, had an app with a periodontist (so expensive here!) and got started with an electric toothbrush. Unfortunately though, it caused quite a lot of recession and my periodontist said that I have thin gums anyway so I was always more prone to this.

Anyways, fast forward a few years and I had orthodontic treatment (metal braces as I thought Invisalign would worsen recession). Slightly happier with my smile but my god, the recession is stressing me out. I keep looking at it every day and I just think I’ll loose all my teeth in my early 30s.

I don’t live in the UK anymore, but I’m back for 8 weeks and really keen to get pinhole or gum graft or something. I can’t live like this. Any suggestions on where to go about it? I know it isn’t popular here. I’ve googled but would prefer personal recommendation.
