External Hard Disk got corrupt

Hey everyone, I have taken a hard disk from my hp laptop and it's very old for around 10 years. It was fine last year but it's showing little problem and whenever I plugged into the laptop for data transfer it took longer time to read the data . Sometimes it's showing the " not responding" problem. Two weeks ago l, I formatted it and completely erased everything from the hard disk. I thought now I can use it without any issues and when I transfer the data, the data gets corrupted.

Basically what are the ways to fix my hard diks?

Seeking Job Referrals in Bioinformatics, Genomics & Computational Biology

Hello everyone

I'm currently looking for job opportunities and referrals in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Genomics, and NGS across India. I'm very desperate and already tried cold emails and many ways to get one. I'm a 2025 post graduate and after that I'm applying for jobs.

I have completed my MSc in Biotechnology and am looking to build my career in bioinformatics and computational biology, where I can apply my academic knowledge, contribute to research and industry projects, and continue developing my skills.

I'm particularly interested in the following roles:

- Bioinformatics Analyst / Associate

- Genome Analyst

- NGS Bioinformatics Analyst

- Junior Computational Biologist

- Research Associate / Project Associate (Bioinformatics)

- Genomics Data Analyst

- Molecular Biology / NGS-related positions

I'm open to entry-level and junior positions, internships, and research opportunities.

If you're working in this field, know of any relevant openings, or can provide a referral, I'd genuinely appreciate your help.

Any leads, advice, or connections would mean a lot.

Thank you for your time and support!

Raw data for Genomics and transcriptomics analysis

Hi everyone!

I’m looking for raw genomic and transcriptomic datasets to practice and improve my bioinformatics and computational biology skills.

I’m particularly interested in datasets such as:

- Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS): Raw FASTQ files for genome assembly, variant calling, and comparative genomics.

- RNA-Seq: Raw FASTQ files for differential gene expression analysis, transcriptome assembly, and functional enrichment.

- Whole Exome Sequencing (WES): Raw sequencing data for variant identification and annotation.

- Long-Read Sequencing: PacBio or Oxford Nanopore datasets for genome assembly and structural variant analysis.

- Metagenomics: Raw sequencing data for microbial diversity and taxonomic profiling.

If you have any publicly available datasets, research project data, or recommendations for accessing raw sequencing data, please share the links or repository names.

I’m familiar with bioinformatics tools and workflows and would like to work with real-world datasets rather than only tutorial datasets.

Repositories such as NCBI SRA, ENA, and GEO are already on my radar, but I’d also appreciate suggestions for interesting datasets or specific accession numbers that are suitable for independent analysis.

Thanks in advance for your help!

How do you communicate bioinformatics projects effectively?

I've noticed that the same bioinformatics project can be described in very different ways depending on the audience. Some people emphasize the biological question, others focus on the computational workflow, while others highlight reproducibility or quantitative results.

For those who review papers, mentor students, or lead bioinformatics projects:

What information immediately tells you that someone understands their own analysis?

What details are unnecessary or just "tool dumping"?

Should a project description be structured around the biological question, computational methodology, results, or scientific impact?

Are there examples of project descriptions (papers, GitHub READMEs, portfolios, CVs, etc.) that you think are exceptionally well written?

I'm interested in learning how experienced bioinformaticians communicate technical work clearly rather than how to make a resume sound better.

What makes a bioinformatics project description strong on a resume?

I'm trying to improve how I describe bioinformatics projects on my resume and would appreciate feedback from people involved in hiring or mentoring.

The projects include:

  1. Bulk RNA-seq analysis

  2. Oxford Nanopore genome assembly

  3. Bacterial variant calling

  4. Tumor-normal somatic variant calling

My question is specifically about writing project descriptions, not the projects themselves. When you review resumes, what do you look for in a strong bioinformatics project?

For example:

  1. Do you care more about the biological question or the computational implementation?

  2. How much detail should be included about the pipeline versus the results?

  3. What metrics or outcomes make a project credible?

4m What are the biggest mistakes you see in junior candidates' project descriptions?

I'm looking for honest feedback from people working in academia or industry to better align my resume with what hiring managers actually value.
