Rescape one month in

Pretty happy with how it is growing in! I tried to go for as natural look as possible. Looking forward to the Lutea getting a bit taller in time to assist with the natural look my other tank has. Anubias went through a small hissy fit stage for some reason, but they're coming back around. I've been higher dosing ferts this time and getting great growth on my plants, especially the Monte carlo. Little Betta loves zooming around all day!

My planted low tech jungle tanks

My two Betta girl tanks (right is a recent re-scape) and my mini shrimp tank. I'm considering a 4th... That's how it goes right? 😂

Re-scaped my tank and went to the store vowing to get a nano school... came home with another Betta.

Of course I did. Couldn't resist her little pouty pleading face 🙄😂 Introducing Gingey. Lights off to settle for the day. She had some fin clamping when I bought her, but gradually I can see them shifting. I hope she enjoys her new jungle with me.

Thought you guys might like to see this old gem

Picked this car up a few months ago, not running on a trailer. Now running, just needs some body work to be completed but overall pretty decent for original condition!

What motivates you most to Solo camp? And what encouraged you to first try it?

There's a few things for me that come to mind & I'd love to hear yours. My initial motivation was my husband and I having elderly pets. Neither of us wants to be away from them for long (and getting sitters with an anxious dog was becoming too hard). We both love to camp as much as possible however, so we have both started solo camping. The feeling I felt after my first solo trip was addictive!

I love the confidence it gives me being out alone, working things out for myself and feeling 100% self sufficient. I also love being able to wander and admire/photograph flora and fauna for ages without worrying I'm not spending enough time with others, and picking my sites around this in mind is exciting. I also really do enjoy alone time to be honest! Whilst I still will always enjoy camping with my husband and friends/ family, solo camping is now a 100% mainstay for me.

Basic solo car camp multi day trip

Just had the best weekend by myself camping out the back of my 4wd for the first time. It was surprisingly very comfy. I loved not packing up a wet icy cold tent (middle of winter here in Aus). Met some lovely Herefords, waited patiently for the wombats to come out the hole (they didn't, like always). Amazing scenery and Dutch oven pizza was epic. Solo camping has truly given me a new lease on life. If you're contemplating it, please give it a go! The peace, serenity and food for the soul is SO hard to beat. I'm so excited for my next adventure.

My nano shrimp tank

And a pillow on the floor for me to sit and stare at them 🤣

2 weeks in and I'm very fond of these little creatures!

Especially this one, she doesn't let anyone share her shrimp ball, she always zooms off with it if anyone gets too close 🤣

Biofile question

I'd like to create some additional biofilm supplements for my shrimp. I'm wondering, could keeping sealed jars with Casuarina cones (like aldercones) and small drift wood in work as a food source to cycle through? I'm thinking various states of biofilm to switch out pieces in my tank every week or so, essentially then they have something to graze on 24/7. From what I can see, biofilm isn't a whole food source so I assume I also need to feed them additional shrimp food that I have, but thought it might be a safer way to ensure a constant food source rather than accidental over feeding of pellets etc. I wonder also, does an object really only produce biofilm one time, or could pieces be used repeatedly to regenerate biofilm?

After successfully cycling my tank and accumulating a nice pile of diatoms and algae I've introduced my little guys & gals. After trying for the longest time to decide what colour to get I went with Firey Reds after seeing them in the LFW display tank and how well they popped against the green scape! I knew I was going to run into issues with this Fluval (which I wish I had of realised before & not after), so I added a very small bag of crushed coral to the filter and it has held steady on pH 7.2 with KH 5 & GH 8 (which is also the same as my tap reading). I was fortunate enough to buy locally, where they have also been holding them at the same levels. I still drip acclimated over 2 hours and let them settle with the lights out for the rest of the day. Today they're zooming about eating constantly, and are SO fun to watch. I'll be keeping an eye on the levels to ensure that everything is ok with the coral and remove it if I detect any creep. I only added 6 and I think I was lucky enough to get a mix of sexes, so I might be lucky enough to see some breeding in future.
