Best way to go about this?

Hello. I am a little interested in Black American culture, I love it. I think it’s cool how you guys were stripped of African culture but you guys still found the strength to create your own. Hip Hop, Jazz, Blues, Tap Dance, Rock music, southern bbq, soul food, R&B, fashion, a lot of lingo that that we Africans use now. I admire it. i’m curious what it’s like to date a Black American man even if it’s just one lol, as an African girl (20yrs). What would be the best way to go about this? I live in Africa so theres none in my country. I don’t want to use dating apps because I find it weird, and plus I’m Muslim. Is there a large Muslim population among Black Americans or are most Black Americans Christians? Thank youu for any info❤️

Is there racism or prejudice in the Albino community?

There’s a lot of racism in the world and I’m curious whether people with albinism experience or think about interracial dating in similar ways. For example, would an Asian or white person with albinism be against dating an African/Black person with albinism, and VICE VERSA? Or would a white person with albinism be against dating an Indian person with albinism and so on?

I’ve honestly never seen a couple where both people have albinism so I’m genuinely curious about whether people with albinism tend to date within their own ethnic background or if race and ethnicity aren’t really a factor. 🤔

I hope this doesn’t come across as offensive, I don’t mean any harm❤️

How come there’s stigma and prejudices about Albinos in Cameroon?

https://www.reddit.com/r/Africa/s/EaMjt8jVZx

I saw this post in r/Africa and as a young African I want to know the reason why certain Cameroonians and Africans would hate or fear Albinos especially since there are Africans that want to date and marry white people/Europeans and hold them in high regards which I don’t understand cuz these people literally colonized us , stole from us, and convinced the world Africans are inferior to them but anyways, they still go crazy for them but turn around and hate on Albinos who look just like them? Why the double standards?🤦🏽‍♀️

Where do these prejudices and biases come from? From religion, culture, pre-colonial Africa or what exactly? And it’s 2026 so why are these prejudices and stigma around Albinos still present in Cameroonian/African society? 🤷🏽‍♀️ Why aren’t they going away?

Why do people ask Black people for permission if they can wear braids?

Hi guys, I’m West African and I’ve always found this very weird that people ask if they can get boho braids, fulani braids, cornrows, and other African hairstyles. Why do you guys need permission on what to do with your hair? most Africans in Africa don’t care as long as you aren’t racist and respect African culture. And why do Black Americans and Caribbeans feel offended?

What are Black American men like?

African girl here (20yrs) and i’m curious if they are different or similar to African men in terms of dating and marriage.

I’ve had some Black American men interested in me in the past but I never pursued anything romantic with them. Same with Caribbean men (Haiti and Saint Lucia) I’ve mostly sticked with African men because of cultural familiarity and they treat me well from my experience.

But I’m curious what American Black men are? I know not everyone is a monolith but what are they GENERALLY like? Are they less or more conservative, less or more open minded, less or more misogynistic, treat women better etc?

Like for example most African men are traditional and adamant about gender roles (men should be the providers, women should do the cooking and take care of the babies and homes) Do Black American men believe in these things ? Do they expect their women to dress modestly or are they more relaxed about clothing? What about marriage before sex, are they generally for it or against it? Etc

I want to know how cultural different or similar they are to African men

African moms body shaming you for being too skinny

I feel like there’s African women who grew up not being desired/picked on by their parents because of being “too skinny”….that was me.

“Skinny” is not the African beauty standard for most. Not at all comparing it to fatphobia because I know bigger women go through a lot, but many skinny African girls were bullied by our moms and other Africans and made to feel ugly about our bodies as well, that nuance is often missing from these conversations, I never see it being talked about.

I’m trying to love my body but it’s so hard when my mom body shames me and force feeds me sometimes. Also I see African men praising women with big bottoms and breasts which doesn’t help. Any advice or have you dealt with something similar and how did you get through it? For reference i’m 20 year olds

Why do Nigerians hate Fulani so much?

I’m a 20 year old Fulani woman from Guinea and I really don’t understand the hate Nigerian people have for us. I think you guys should call out the crime, not the tribe.

The criminal activities of a few Fulani herders, yes, a few have become a license for some Nigerians to vomit hate and spew ignorance.

It’s unfair and dangerous to label the entire Fulani tribe as terrorists or bandits simply because a few criminals, mostly herders living in remote areas are involved in such acts.

You want to label the Fulani people as terrorists? Then explain how in Kano, hoodlums butchered a young Qur’an memorizer and a first-class Computer Science student. That was not in the forest. That was in the middle of a Hausa dominated city.

And let’s not pretend, everyone knows Kano is flooded with hoodlums, a day hardly passes without phone snatchers stabbing or killing someone just to steal a phone, a bike, or personal belongings. And guess what? The criminals are not outsiders. They are indigenes of Kano, born and bred.

So should all Hausas be called bloodthirsty animals? Ofcourse No? Then stop with the tribal profiling. “The sin of one finger should not cut off the entire hand.”

You think Fulani are Bandits because of some ragged few in the bush? Then what do you call the armed robbers in the East, the cultists in the South, the kidnappers in the North-Central, or the ritualists in the West? Should every tribe have its own crime tag? No one will be left standing. “When you point one finger, four point back at you.”

Your house is on fire, but you are busy mocking Fulanis.

Criminals are criminals. They don’t wear tribal uniforms. Evil does not speak Fulfulde, Igbo, Hausa, or Yoruba. It speaks greed, hate, and desperation.

So next time you are tempted to vomit bigotry, ask yourself: Are you angry about crime or are you just addicted to tribal hatred? Enough with the hypocrisy. Call out the crime. Not the tribe.

Tell me about Zimbabwe

I'm from West Africa but l realized I don’t know much about Zimbabwe or Zimbabweans lol. It made me curious because I feel like I know so little about such a beautiful country. The only things I've really heard about are Mugabe and the Shona people and that's honestly where my knowledge ends. So what is one thing, negative and positive I should know? What are Zimbabwean people like? What is it like to live in Zimbabwe?

▲ 12 r/Gambia

As Gambians, we need to do better.

I am not anti Senegal but In The Gambia, we like to discuss everybody's problems except our own. Something happens in Senegal today, and tomorrow the axe falls on Gambia's leg. We react faster to Senegal news than to our own national issues.

We complain about what happens in Senegal, but forget that our own government fallout happened almost the same way. When things go wrong , many people support it, defend it, or keep quiet.

But once it happens in Senegal, suddenly everybody becomes a political expert and defender of democracy. We have soldiers, yet we still depend on Senegal for military support.

We have a national team, but many people don't even know when they are playing some cannot even name six current players. In construction, we import workers. In electricity, we depend outside. Even the cement holding our buildings together is coming from Senegal.

At this point, if Senegal sneezes, some Gambians will rush to buy cough syrup.

Even in wrestling competitions, people will spend money happily to watch Senegalese wrestlers, but cannot support or promote our own local talents with the same energy.

We copy others so much that if patriotism was an exam, some of us would ask Senegal for answers. A country cannot grow while constantly looking over the fence at the neighbor's compound.
